[1st POV]
"Are you okay buddy?" A voice came from the door of the hospital ward.
"More than okay...Dad," I said, the word 'dad' rolled off my tongue easier than I anticipated. It was like one of those cases where you thought it would be a big deal but when it happened, you realized it was not all that.
Shinzo Arata was my uncle, but in this new life, he was my father. This meant that I was my own cousin.
I knew I was going to be reborn as my own blood relative but this still felt surprisingly weird. But it was nothing I couldn't get over after a few minutes.
I was close to my uncle as Daigo Arata so it was not difficult to see him as a parent even after I regained my memories.
"You look like you are okay," he said and came beside me. His rough hand ruffled my hair lovingly.
"Kyouma, you're injuries..." my father started in uncertainty, "...they've healed,"
I blinked, "Oh,"
With my memories came the first sparks of my power. I wasn't even aware but I had healed my injuries with RCT. It was instinctual to do so.
"I-I think I awakened my quirk," I said, thinking fast.
"You've awakened a regenerative type qurik?" my father asked with a raised eyebrow. His quirk was a mutation type that gave him extra toes and fingers so it was unlikely for me to get a regeneration qurik.
And my mother, she sadly died while giving birth to me. He wouldn't talk about her ever so I did not know what qurik she had.
Thinking that, I couldn't help but feel guilt in my heart. I really killed his wife and I was not even his son, not in the traditional sense at least.
"Not quite. It's a bit more than just a regeneration," I said.
"So we had to meet a doctor anyway huh," he sighed and pushed me to the side to make room for him to lay down on the bed.
"It would seem so. It shouldn't take long," I said.
After all, this was not the first time I had to come up with an explanation for my powers and put it under the guise of a quirk. I've done so in my first life as Daigo Arata, I could pull up one of the many ideas I thought of at that time.
"Anyway, good job dealing with the kid. You beat three people with quirks, and from what I heard they were bullying you?" he said and pulled me closer to him with one arm. It was a half hug.
"Yes,"
"Good, remember we don't tolerate bullying," he said. He had been teaching me to stand up for myself for as long as I could remember in this life.
Likely because after Daigo Arata happened, our family had been under scrutiny and discrimination. It was not much but it was there. It was absolutely ridiculous but Japan was family-oriented, the action of a person was always tied down to the family that raised them.
So my father knew that I would get bullied so he kind of trained me for it.
"You look funny," he said with a smile and flicked my nose, "What's with the guilty look? As you can see I am not mad so there is no reason to be guilty,"
I just nodded with a hard smile, "Right,"
I looked at my reflection in his eyes. A young child with pinkish-red hair and brown eyes. I had the innocence of a child still on my face so it was hard to tell if I was handsome or not.
Then I focused back on my uncle, now my dad. A tall man built like a ruler, he had shallow pink hair and bags under his eyes. He used to be bigger but life had been tough for him so he drank a lot.
I swept my eyes across the room once more. The ward had four other patients but due to the size, all of us were too far apart. There were five or six empty beds on both my sides.
Although I had just regained my memories, things came slowly. I still could not remember most of my memories and my powers would also take time to develop.
Perhaps that was why it felt so natural. There was no shock at having been reborn for the second time. I was gently eased into this new life. The technique worked better than I could ever hope for.
But there was equal gratitude and guilt in my heart.
This was it, a new opportunity to regain everything I lost.
"We should probably meet the doctor soon so we can go home early. What do you say? Should we meet a general doctor or should we go to a quirk specialist?" he asked with half a smile.
I acted the excited child, "Quirk specialist please,"
"Of course,"
We went to the quirk specialist after that. The place was located in another section of the hospital so it was about five minute walk. The doctor had his own room and we saw other people lining up outside.
"Great, if it isn't my greatest enemy," my father said, "A queue,"
We gave our names to the receptionist and we had to wait for nearly an hour for our turn to meet the doctor. When our name was called, we went into the room together.
The room was surprisingly friendly, it did not have the laboratory or office vibe that most had. Instead, it looked more like a daycare room with the odd colourful animal paintings on the walls.
"So, what do we have here?" the doctor asked with a used smile. He was a middle-aged man with a skinny fat build. He gave off serious uncle vibes too.
"He just awakened his quirk," my father answered for me.
I tried to climb onto the seat directly facing the doctor but after nearly toppling over, my father caught me and put me on the seat. I was busy hiding my blush as he took a seat beside mine.
From the world's greatest villain to a toddler. How incredibly hilarious.
"Congratulations. Do you know what your qurik is or do we need to go to the testing rooms?" the doctor asked.
"I know," I answered.
"Some people know what their quirks are and how they work instinctively after they awaken it, so I'm assuming you are one of them?" he asked to which I nodded.
"Yes,"
"Great, easy for both of us then." the doctor joked while taking out his pen and paper and getting ready to write things down.
"So? What's your quirk?"
"Everyone has an energy around them which they are unaware of but I can control mine," I said. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to go with this.
He clicked his pen, "Is it chi manipulation then? Quite rare to find those quirks outside China,"
I shook my head, "Not quite. I think it's easier if I show you,"
I gestured to be handed the pen and he gave it to me. I clicked the butt of the pen a few times before I stabbed it into my palm with all the strength I had.
"!!!!!!"
"Kyouma!!" My father reacted by jumping off his seat and snatching the pen away.
I didn't heed their reaction though, I just said, "Look,"
We all looked at my bleeding palm as it quickly healed, visible to the naked eye. I turned down the speed of my healing for obvious reasons though.
"Yeah, Chi can't heal the body," the doctor said while relaxing back to his seat when he saw that I was no longer injured.
He took out a new pen from his drawers and noted down some things before he looked back up.
"Can you do that to others?" he asked.
I paused, considering my answer carefully but from outside it looked like I was just wondering if I could do that.
"Yes, but it will be less effective,"
"How much?" he asked, his glasses lit up. A healing quirk was rare and since he was a doctor, he already had a good impression of me just because I could heal others. He saw the potential immediately.
"A quarter? I'm not sure. Do you want to test it out?" I asked and his eyes instinctively went to his pen and what I just did.
He blinked, trying to shake off the horrible idea, "I'll take your word for it,"
"Anything else?"
"I can also use the energy to strengthen my body," I said and he only gave a hum. It would seem that the healing part was much more interesting in his mind.
"Do you have a name for your qurik?"
"Lifeforce manipulation," I said.
"Lifeforce huh, makes sense," he said and jotted down more things on his note. After a few minutes of silence except the sound of a moving pen, he tore down the paper and gave it to my father.
"You should give this when you are going to register his qurik, there shouldn't be a problem," he said.
Then he wrote another thing on his note, a number from what I could see. He tore off the page and gave it to my father.
"And this is the phone number of a psychologist. He is a friend and specializes in children and teenage psychology. You should bring your son to him, what he just did there was definitely not normal," he said.
"Ah.." my father did not know how to react.
"I am doing this for your own good, quirks can have psychological effects on children. Some kids develop anger issues, depression or other mental illnesses due to their qurik. Your son's ability to heal himself might cause a mental shift, he wouldn't care if he got hurt since he can heal anyway. You see how this can be dangerous?" the doctor asked.
"Right, I'll definitely look into it," my father said and bowed his head, "Thank you,"
"That should be all. Stay safe kid," he said and made a cady appear on his hand. That seemed to be his quirk.
He had a broad smile, "Don't hold back, you can be jealous. Many kids have cried in envy for my quirk,"
I just returned his smile and took the candy.
Getting your quirk analysed and registered was easier than I would've liked. The fact that I could lie through my teeth with such ease meant that others could do the same.
Not my problem though.
"Before we go home, we should probably meet your little opponent. He will be staying in the hospital for longer than you," my father said as we walked through the corridor of the hospital.
"Bakugo? Dad, do we have to?" I asked, not wanting to do anything with that kid again.
Or any other kid in general. I was 17 years old in the body of a child so I don't think I would be hanging with kids my age from now on, memory loss or not.
"His mother came and apologized to me personally while you were passed out. I found out she was actually a very polite woman, her son is just a bit...wild," my father said.
"...Fine let's go,"
