District 13, Detention Zone.
"Sounds like trouble out there?"
"Let's use the chaos to escape."
"What are you thinking, man? Breaking out just adds more time to our sentence."
A-Fen, Zhou, and Lazu talked it over. Considering District 13 probably wouldn't hold them too long, they decided not to risk it and stayed put.
They lounged around like the chaos outside had nothing to do with them.
"..."
In the solitary cell next door, Te Lu rolled his eyes. Still, he wasn't planning to escape either. He just lay quietly on his bed, contemplating the direction of his life.
Elsewhere…
"Angel! I know you're here—come out!"
A furious roar echoed from afar.
With her sharp Digimon senses, Moss picked up on a familiar presence. The black aura of the Shadow Ninjas filled all of District 13.
Now hearing that voice confirmed it.
Shendu!
Moss murmured, "Looks like Shendu got the Rat Talisman."
There were three ways for Shendu to escape his statue form—
The first: someone breaking the sealing spell. But nobody would do that, so out.
The second: using the Dragon Teeth. But it wasn't time yet, so that wouldn't work either.
The third: the Rat Talisman, which turns the inanimate into animate—allowing a statue like Shendu to move. That had to be it.
Using the Rabbit Talisman's power, Moss bolted into the heart of District 13. She arrived just as agents of the DATS-like organization were clashing with ninja warriors from the Shadow Army.
Ruins and rubble, explosions rocking the place.
Blades flashing, people everywhere.
Among them, Officer Black was putting up a fierce fight, taking on ten Shadow Ninjas solo.
But even a brave man has limits. Especially against ten of them—no matter how tough Black was, he was still human and had to fall back gradually.
Just then, three more Shadow Ninjas leapt high into the air, flinging a dozen shurikens—each one gleaming sharply, honed to cut on contact.
"Ah?" Black's eyes widened. Not good.
He was barely fending off ten ninjas and had no strength left to deal with flying blades.
Ding!
Right then, the shurikens froze midair.
"?" The Shadow Ninjas paused, stunned and wide-eyed.
Then, the shurikens reversed course and shot back, piercing through their own throwers.
Rooster Talisman!
Moss, now holding its power, was the obvious source. She strode up quickly to Black's side and asked, "Sheriff, can you still move?"
"Thanks. I'm good."
Black let out a relieved breath and pointed toward a smoldering area. "There's a fire-breathing monster over there. Seems like it's here for you."
In that direction, a bipedal dragon silhouette loomed in the smoke.
"I figured."
Moss nodded. "That's the demon behind the Dark Hand—his name is Shendu. Sheriff Black, go find Uncle and get him to Daolon Wong. Daolon knows how to seal this demon."
Black was stunned.
She not only knew who the enemy was—she even had a counter-strategy ready! No wonder she volunteered to infiltrate the Dark Hand!
Moss urged, "Go! Leave Shendu to me."
"Got it." Black nodded and sprang into action.
Moss took to the skies and quickly flew above Shendu's head.
To keep Shendu from stealing the talisman magic, she didn't get too close—just hovered several meters away, observing the villain who looked like he only trained his upper body.
Shendu's arms and chest were rippling with muscle. In contrast, his legs were skinny. He wore shorts, and a long tail curled behind him.
"Angel!"
Shendu's eyes burned as he glared at Moss, placing one hand on his hip and slapping his chest with the other. "Surprised, aren't you? I've come back to life!"
Moss chuckled softly. "You're only able to move. You're still a statue."
Even though he could act, the sealing spell hadn't been lifted. His body was still stone.
It was like the super moose in the original—brought to life with the Rat Talisman, but still made of fluff or candy, not flesh.
Shendu was essentially a mobile statue—a stone dragon, really.
"!"
The words hit Shendu like a knife to the chest. His smugness vanished in a wave of fury. His red eyes turned golden.
Laser eyes!
Twin beams of energy burst from Shendu's eyes, slicing straight at Moss.
Seeing his eyes change color, Moss realized he'd obtained the Pig Talisman, which grants laser vision—more precise and focused than flame.
But Moss had the Rabbit Talisman.
With a supersonic dash, she dodged the beams with ease.
They struck the ceiling of District 13's central building, instantly overheating and detonating—leaving a crater a meter wide.
Moss mocked to distract him, "Shendu, you're just a grounded little dragon now—forever beneath me, looking up. Hahaha~"
Her words made Shendu fume.
He bent his body and transformed into a giant eagle, feathers a dusty yellow, eyes glowing with rage.
Shapeshifting power!
That meant Shendu also had the Monkey Talisman.
Moss kept retreating while activating the Snake Talisman, vanishing into invisibility.
Shendu, now a massive eagle, launched skyward. When Moss disappeared, he knew she'd used the Snake Talisman, and growled in frustration. He began focusing his senses to detect her magic.
He couldn't see her—but he could track her by sensing magic.
"I've found you!"
He locked onto a spot and fired his laser eyes.
Boom!
A ruined wall exploded under the impact.
"Hmph, trying to flee?"
Sensing Moss's magical energy escaping through the breach, Shendu didn't hesitate. He flapped hard and chased after her.
He flew out of District 13. Looking left and right, he spotted Moss in midair several meters away—now visible.
"Stop!"
Shendu didn't think too much about why she'd dropped invisibility—he just charged after her.
A new aerial chase began.
The angel flew higher and higher ahead; the giant eagle chased with fierce momentum.
Moss ascended swiftly into the clouds. Glancing back at the relentless Shendu, she was reminded of when Biomeric Thunderbirmon had hunted her two months ago.
But back then, she was slower—forced to rely on dodging through skyscrapers.
Now? She was faster!
Even though Shendu had gained flight through the Monkey Talisman, his speed was nowhere near Moss's Rabbit Talisman–amplified flight.
Moss called back, "Push harder, Shendu! You're almost catching me!"
Lies!
Shendu raged and unleashed another barrage of laser blasts.
Zing zing zing—!
A storm of energy bolts, like a Meteor Dragon Barrage.
They moved fast—fast enough to catch Moss—and packed serious punch, their heat and penetration power easily capable of wounding her.
But Moss knew the Pig Talisman's strengths and countered with a serpent-like flying path: up, down, left, right, completely erratic—making her impossible to hit.
If you can't land a hit, all that power is meaningless!
Besides, dancing on a blade's edge like this? It thrilled her. Her heart raced, her whole body trembled: "This is exhilarating!"
Shendu, on the other hand, was anything but thrilled.
"Damn you!"
She's using my own talismans against me!
As their original owner, Shendu knew the Rabbit Talisman's capabilities. His eagle form—thanks to the Monkey Talisman—was no match.
He roared, "An angel fleeing from a demon—isn't that shameful?!"
But his only answer was Moss's laughter.
Clear as a silver bell, yet to Shendu, it was grating.
It sounded like mockery!
That damned angel!
Shendu's rage boiled over. He kept chasing but couldn't close the distance, and a sense of retreat crept in.
He had invested treasures—his own money—just to get revenge on this angel.
Money!
That was his money!
