Shendu had spent over half a month, using his own money to fund the Dark Hand in searching all over the world, before finally finding the Rat Talisman at an antique market.
The moment he embedded the Rat Talisman and regained mobility, he couldn't hold back any longer—he rushed to lead the Shadow Ninjas in an assault on District 13.
He had imagined an intense, face-to-face duel with the angel.
Just like the battles he fought against those sorcerers centuries ago.
He loved dueling with sorcerers!
So much so, he wouldn't bother ruling his kingdom or disciplining his son.
What's so fun about running a kingdom or raising a kid compared to a good fight?
Shendu loved dueling and assumed this angel would be just like those sorcerers who used to challenge him—honorable, face-to-face, one-on-one.
But now…
Everything was completely different from what he expected! He never imagined this so-called angel would have no sense of honor at all—just zipping around with the Rabbit Talisman, refusing to fight him directly.
Unbelievable!
No honor, no courage to duel him—what kind of angel was this?
"If I keep chasing, it'll just be me getting toyed with…"
Shendu came to this realization and began to consider retreating.
Another day, another battle…
But right then, Moss's voice echoed: "Come on, Shendu! If you can catch me, all the talisman powers will be yours! Hehehe~"
Mockery. Taunt. Seduction.
Worse than a demon—a devil!
A nameless fury surged inside Shendu, his eyes bulging with rage. He cast aside all thoughts of retreat and flapped his wings furiously, speeding up to close the distance with Moss.
Just one touch…
Just a single touch, and he could reclaim all the talismans! Then he'd crush that angel. Crush her to death!
Moss's voice came again: "Too slow, waaay too slow! You call yourself an ancient demon? Pfft—your speed's no better than a grunt's, hahaha! At this rate, you'll never catch me. Just cough up the Rat Talisman and go back to being a statue!"
"!"
AAARGH!!!If you've got guts, stop using the Rabbit Talisman!Shendu's eyes nearly popped out of his skull, nerves snapping with rage. He frantically beat his wings, firing laser beams like a machine gun—he swore he'd catch this b*tch angel!
Moss kept provoking him with her words, luring Shendu into looping through the skies—buying Uncle and the others time to set up the sealing magic.
An hour later, her throat was parched.
Still flying in circles with Shendu behind her, she pulled out a phone from her chest and dialed Black.
"Hey, Black, are you guys ready yet?"
Moss wasn't some master manipulator—she was running out of taunts. At this rate, she had no idea how much longer she could keep stalling.
"Daolon Wong refuses to cooperate," Black replied with frustration.
From the phone, Moss could faintly hear Uncle and Daolon Wong arguing—mostly Uncle's voice.
In the original Animal Arc, after the talismans were destroyed, their magic dispersed into the animals around the world—except for the Dragon Talisman. Because there were no dragons left.
To claim that magic, Daolon Wong had used a spell to revive Shendu.
He had, in essence, created a brand-new body for Shendu, and they had agreed that afterward, the Dragon Talisman's magic would be his.
But Shendu, as everyone knows, never keeps his word.
After the deal, he not only kept the Dragon Talisman's power but even stole two more from Daolon Wong—pure betrayal. Daolon Wong never let it go.
That's why, under Uncle's pressure, he revealed the spell to seal Shendu. Clearly, part of him wanted revenge.
But this was different.
The current Daolon Wong had no beef with Shendu—they had no past, no betrayal. And Daolon Wong was a stubborn old goat. Without vengeance to drive him, he wasn't about to just give up that sealing magic.
So Moss suggested, "Beat him up."
Black hesitated. "Uh… that's not really okay."
He was a righteous man—not the kind to bully the elderly. Plus, Daolon Wong wasn't in good health. Hitting him might actually be fatal.
"Isn't there another way?" Black asked.
Moss thought for a moment. "Alright. Tell him if he gives us the spell, I'll return the magic to him afterward."
From her tone, Angewomon could tell Moss had zero intention of keeping that promise.
But aside from Shendu and Valmont, who'd been burned already, nobody would ever suspect that such a beautiful, kind, pure, and holy angel would break her word.
A little dirty, sure—but since it was against villains, Angewomon could accept it.
On the other side, Daolon Wong heard the message and thought: Sure, the angel may have taken his position, talismans, and magic—but she was an angel. Surely her word meant something.
That magic—he had spent decades cultivating it.
With his current frail body, he couldn't spend another few decades regaining it.
He had to get it back!
So he agreed and shared the sealing incantation.
Now the problem was with Uncle.
Right now, Uncle was still his Talisman Arc self—far less skilled than in the Animal Arc. Even with the incantation, he'd need lots of time and manpower to cast the spell.
"How long will it take?" Moss asked.
"Not sure. Could be several hours," Black replied.
Moss hung up and glanced at her portal timer—0.25 days left. That's six hours.
"…Guess I'll just keep stalling him."
With that, she whipped around, drew her bow, and fired a glowing arrow.
Holy Arrow!
Shendu didn't expect a sudden counterattack. The holy arrow grazed his eagle wing.
"AAARGH!"
His scream echoed through the sky.
Though it was just a scratch, the arrow—made of lightning and holy energy—combined with the clash between righteous and dark energies, made it far more painful.
Shendu's body spasmed from the pain, and he dropped toward the ground.
From a distance, Moss noticed the wound wasn't healing. "So he doesn't have the Horse Talisman yet."
So he really had rushed over as soon as he got the Rat Talisman. Impatient demon.
Though he lacked the Horse Talisman, Shendu was still just a moving statue—a minor wound didn't stop him. He stabilized midair and shapeshifted again with the Monkey Talisman—becoming a hawk to cover the wound and regain flight.
He lunged at Moss once more.
"That's it—keep chasing me! Hahaha~"
And so a new chase began.
A white angel, firing lightning arrows; a golden hawk, launching golden laser beams.
Time ticked on, second by second. Moss had the Dog Talisman, so her stamina stayed full.
She could keep going like this all day. All month. Forever!
Shendu, despite being a Rat Talisman–animated statue, began tiring from constant flight and energy blasts. He had to stop and rest now and then.
Each time he slowed down, Moss would taunt him into a rage.
Not just for fun—it was strategic. She worried that if he calmed down, he'd stop chasing her.
And if an ancient demon didn't fixate on her, the angel, he'd surely unleash chaos upon the world.
Moss didn't have unshakable belief in justice—but there was still a sense of it deep within her. She didn't want to see Shendu run wild.
So she had to keep him angry.
Furious. Always furious!
When the portal timer dropped to 0.1 days, Moss asked slyly, "Getting tired already, Shendu?"
He exploded in rage.
At 0.01 days left, she smirked, "Wow, your stamina's so weak!"
He was livid.
You little—My stamina is the Dog Talisman! And you have it!
She fled. He chased.
Riiing~At 0.001 days, her phone rang.
"The magic is ready."
Moss heard the news and began luring Shendu back to District 13, a tinge of regret in her heart.
Just over a minute left—she wouldn't be able to collect all twelve talismans.
"Heaven and earth are incomplete. What's a few missing talismans? Seven's enough." She consoled herself and let go of the regret.
The moment she reentered District 13—her body vanished.
Portal activated! She left gently, as she came gently.
With a flick of her scarf, she took seven talismans with her.
As she vanished, she faintly felt something like… reluctance. As if the world's righteousness and darkness were both asking her to visit again.
This feeling—being loved by the world—was truly strange and wonderful.
"If I can… I'll come again," Moss thought.
…
Shendu burst into District 13, morphing back into his dragon form. His crimson eyes swept the area—but no Moss.
"Angel! Where are you?!"
Then—his face paled.
Because a group of sorcerers appeared before him. The leader, in ceremonial robes, held two paper charms.
This scene… he had seen it centuries ago.
"Demons and spirits, be gone! Demons and spirits, be gone!"
Uncle led the agents of District 13—and the prisoners—in chanting the sealing spell.
Even A-Fen, Zhou, Lazu, and Te Lu were chanting. They thought this dragon looked awfully similar to that statue in Valmont's office.
"No! Stop!"
Shendu remembered the horror of being sealed by Lo Pei and froze in fear.
A moment later, his body twisted and spun—becoming a statue once more.
The Rat, Pig, and Monkey Talismans fell to the ground beside it.
"Three more talismans!" Jade ran forward, beaming, and picked them up.
When the dust settled, a nurse pushed a wheelchair forward.
Daolon Wong sat in it and said, "Where is that angel? She promised to return my magic."
Black looked around and asked, "Anyone seen the angel?"
Everyone shook their heads.
"This is her phone."
Jackie picked up the phone Moss had dropped. As an external object, it couldn't travel with her.
Everyone exchanged glances. They realized—Moss might be gone.
Lying on the ground, Shendu heard this and pieced it together. Learning someone else had been tricked like him, he didn't feel sorry—instead, he laughed.
"Hahaha! You actually believed her?! She never keeps promises! She's worse than a demon!"
What?!
Daolon Wong's face turned ghostly pale—realizing he'd been deceived again.
"Silence, statue!"
Black respected Moss deeply and scolded Shendu.
An angel who infiltrated the Dark Hand, helped fight crime, and loved learning—how could she be a demon?
Shendu: "..."
Black continued, "From a demon's perspective, an angel is like how humans see demons. A demon's demon is an angel. That's what you meant, right?"
Shendu corrected him: "No, I mean she's just a con artist!"
Black looked awkward. Shendu's argument complicated things. So, he ordered the statue taken away to shut him up.
Then he turned to Daolon Wong, trying to calm him: "Don't worry, sir. When the angel returns, we'll let you know. Please stay calm."
Calm?Calm your mother—!
Daolon Wong's fury triggered arrhythmia.
Forget the lost magic—he'd already lost so much blood. Even after weeks in the ICU, he still hadn't recovered. Now his rage tipped him over the edge.
"Cough, cough—gack…"
He collapsed, eyes rolling back.
"Take him to the infirmary," Black told the nurse.
She nodded and wheeled him away.
Jackie walked over to Uncle and asked, "Uncle, what do you think of Moss?"
From Shendu and Daolon Wong's reactions, Moss seemed more complicated than she first appeared.
Jade jumped in: "Moss is a good person!"
Uncle smiled. "Jade's right. If demons hate her—then she must be good."
Jackie chuckled, thinking, That makes sense.
She had appeared mysteriously and left suddenly. But she only punished ancient demons and dark chi wizards.
A true scourge of evil. A true angel. A good angel.
Hopefully… they would meet again.
