Chapter 83 - A Fragment

"Ahhh!"

Outside, Evil Buu clutched his head and screamed in agony.

Son Gohan arrived and asked Future Trunks, "What's going on?"

Trunks looked just as confused. "I don't know. He suddenly started acting like this."

Steam burst from Evil Buu's head, and from within that steam, nine figures emerged—Moss, Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Mr. Buu, Babidi, and Dabura.

Only Moss was conscious. The others were unconscious, each gripped in her wings, supported by the power of the Chicken Talisman, which allowed them to float out from Evil Buu's body.

The moment she emerged, Moss pointed at Evil Buu and shouted to Trunks and Gohan, "Use your ki blasts now! Don't let even a single cell remain!"

These Z Fighters had been through over twenty years of apocalyptic hell—far more decisive than their canon counterparts. Upon hearing her, Trunks and Gohan didn't hesitate to unleash their most powerful techniques.

"Kamehameha!"

Trunks clasped his hands together, charging a blue-white energy orb.

"Kamehameha!"

Gohan, with only one arm, formed the attack single-handedly.

BOOM—!

Two of the world's most powerful Kamehameha waves shot out like a tidal wave, merging mid-air and instantly engulfing the transforming Evil Buu.

After unlocking their hidden potential and achieving Mystic Form, both warriors had far surpassed Kid Buu, and Kamehameha multiplied their power several times over. Their merged blasts exponentially amplified their destructive force.

Thus—Kid Buu was utterly destroyed.

Not a single cell remained.

"Majin Buu has been annihilated!"

In the Supreme Kai Realm, Old Kai and Kibito danced with joy like two kids receiving gold stars.

Though their titles demanded some dignity, they barely suppressed their urge to break out into dance. Their grins said it all.

Then Kibito noticed Mr. Buu, commenting, "That fat Buu is still around."

Old Kai mused, "Moss must have made a calculated decision. And this one's ki doesn't feel evil anymore."

Kibito sighed in relief.

If he wasn't evil, then let him be.

Then they watched via crystal ball as Moss decapitated the unconscious Babidi using Destructo Disc.

Kibito chuckled gleefully.

That damned evil sorcerer was finally gone!

Old Kai reminded him, "Now that Majin Buu and Babidi are gone, Kibito, what are you waiting for? Go save the Supreme Kai."

"Yes, sir!" Kibito snapped to attention and teleported to Earth, diving into Babidi's spaceship in search of Supreme Kai Shin.

On Earth, Moss activated Holy Bubble, bathing herself, Piccolo, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, Chiaotzu, Mr. Buu, and Dabura in radiant, multicolored light—reviving them.

The others were healed by the light. Dabura, however, woke up from pain.

The holy energy harmed evil, so while it healed the others, it electrocuted him.

Trunks was surprised. "You can heal too?"

Moss smiled in response.

"Did the plan succeed?" Piccolo looked at her, deeply moved. Who'd have thought someone as weak as Moss could turn the tide?

Krillin, eyeing Mr. Buu, nervously asked, "What's with this guy? Is he the same one that absorbed us?"

Mr. Buu—or Mr. Buu—tilted his head. "You mean me?"

Moss replied, "He's the good side of Majin Buu."

Piccolo clicked his tongue. He knew exactly how that worked.

His own father was the evil side of the Kami—Demon King Piccolo.

Gohan, aware of Piccolo's background, asked, "So the one we just destroyed… was his evil side?"

Moss nodded.

Piccolo thought, "Having good and evil sides as separate beings… what a convenient setup."

Since Mr. Buu radiated no evil energy, they stopped treating him as a threat, and the atmosphere eased.

"Moss, you saved us again. Thanks." Yamcha was the first to thank her, followed by the rest.

They all remembered that last time they were brought back from the dead, it was thanks to Moss. And this time, without her, they wouldn't even have made it to the afterlife.

Moss accepted their thanks, then turned to the now-silent Dabura and said, "I've got some questions. Consider it payment for saving you from Babidi and Buu. Deal?"

"Humph." Dabura scoffed, eyes full of disdain.

The King of the Demon Realm bow to some lowly divine envoy?

Saved or not, you think I'd be grateful?

Foolish!

Minutes later, Dabura was bruised and bloodied, completely humbled.

Gohan and Trunks flanked him—Trunks glaring with an intensity inherited from Vegeta.

Dabura nervously caved. "Okay, okay, I'll talk…"

"We didn't have enough energy to revive Majin Buu since the Supreme Kai battle hadn't started. But Babidi—ugh, that bastard—he had a subordinate named Ye Ge, a beast. One day, Ye Ge ate a strange orb while hunting and exploded from the energy. Babidi found the orb and used its pure energy to resurrect Majin Buu."

"An orb?" Everyone looked at each other.

Krillin scratched his head. "Don't tell me it was a Dragon Ball?"

"Do Dragon Balls contain that much pure energy?"

"…No…"

Moss also thought of the Dragon Balls.

But she'd inherited the soul of the Wish Dragon, and the current Dragon Balls were now just ordinary stones. Even if they weren't, they shouldn't hold energy capable of reviving Majin Buu.

Could it have been negative energy?

But would that even work?

"Where's the orb now?" she asked.

Dabura replied, "In Babidi's ship, but the energy is all used up."

"Take us to it," Moss ordered.

Too scared to disobey, Dabura led them to the spaceship, where they ran into Kibito, who had just rescued Supreme Kai Shin.

"Dabura!" Shin and Kibito turned pale.

Dabura, seeing their panic, got a wicked idea—he lunged forward and took Shin hostage, conjuring a blade and pressing it to the Kai's neck.

"Supreme Kai!" Kibito panicked.

Dabura grinned. "Let me go, or I'll kill him!"

Silence.

Flash!

Trunks vanished and appeared behind Dabura, sword gleaming.

"Huh?" Dabura blinked.

In that instant, his arm—blade and all—was severed.

"MY ARM!"

Enraged, Dabura tried to self-destruct, his energy flaring—

SWISH!

Trunks's sword flashed again. Dabura's head hit the ground.

He had planned to keep Dabura alive to track the orb, but once Dabura tried to self-destruct, Trunks acted to protect the Earth.

The self-destruct energy dispersed as nothing more than warm wind.

Supreme Kai Shin, now safe, exhaled in relief.

Then he noticed Mr. Buu among the group and gasped, "Majin Buu?!"

Gohan explained, "He's the good side—his evil heart's been destroyed."

"…Good side?" Shin eased up, though still visibly shaken.

Since Dabura was dead, it took the group thirty minutes to find the orb—a transparent sphere the size of a fist.

"Definitely not a Dragon Ball."

Dragon Balls were either white stones or orange crystal spheres with stars inside. This orb, however, contained…

A human finger?!

Moss held the orb, eyes fixed on the finger.

"This… shouldn't exist in the Dragon Ball world…"

Then a memory flashed in her mind: a star falling from the sky, striking a person, and that person shattering—

This finger… she'd seen it before.

It was her past life's left index finger.

But why was it here? And how did it possess energy strong enough to revive Majin Buu?

"I was an ordinary person in my past life… wasn't I?"

But this fragment clearly wasn't ordinary. Was it that falling star…?

Could it be the core of the system?

Unable to find an answer, Moss gave up and considered a new angle. "The world is infinite. Was it just coincidence I found this fragment here?"

If it was coincidence, fine.

But if not, it might mean that every world she visits has one of these fragments—she just hadn't found them in previous journeys.

"I'll look for them when I return to the Digimon Frontier world," she thought. "Only a couple weeks left."

If this theory was true, future world-hopping wouldn't just be sightseeing. She'd be treasure-hunting.

Even if they're useless, they're mementos—souvenirs from her travels.

"Still… can I take this with me?"

She stared at the fragment. Aside from the finger, nothing seemed abnormal—maybe the energy had truly run dry.

Yet, she still felt disconnected from it.

She'd never taken any physical items across worlds. Could this one be an exception?

[Attention!]

The past-life fragment is a story item like the Shikon Jewel—it links plotlines. It's not meant to restore her past body and cannot be taken.
