Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The One With The East German Laundry Detergent

Gabe was sitting with the gang at Central Perk, debating one of the most pressing issues of the day.

"Guys, can you just let it go? It's not even that big of a deal," Monica insisted, stirring her coffee anxiously.

"How would we let go? You calling it not a big deal is a great insult to us," Ross shot back, adjusting his leather jacket.

Gabe leaned forward, eyebrows raised. "Yeah, I don't even think guys can do that—come close to that, right?"

Ross grinned. "Yeah, you just reach in there and do a little maneuver and then—bam—a bra right out of the sleeve."

Rachel scrunched up her nose. "How can you say that? If guys can pee standing up, do you know how dirty it is to pee in a public restroom? No, you just stand there and point—sometimes not even pointing."

Phoebe chimed in, waving her hands like conducting an orchestra. "Don't forget that they just shake it when cleaning the pee—us, we have to get toilet paper and wipes. You just shake it there."

Joey, who'd been quietly sipping his latte, suddenly sat up. "You can see breasts all the time."

"Right," Gabe added with a wink. "Just look down and there it is."

Joey nodded sagely. "Honestly, I don't even know how you get things done. If I were you, I'd just look at my boobs all the time."

The table fell silent. Then Phoebe burst out laughing. "Yeah? Well, how about guys who can do mean things and not even care about them?"

"I don't think that applies only to guys," Gabe observed, raising an eyebrow at Phoebe's sharp retort.

Ross leaned back, crossing his arms. "Also, you have multiple orgasms."

At this point, the girls laughed and admitted defeat, covering their faces with their hands as the guys high‑fived each other triumphantly.

Later that morning, still at the Central Perk, where they had been earlier, Chandler just put down the Telephone.

"So... Saturday night, the big night. Date night. Saturday night—Sa-tur-day night," he repeated, as if trying to summon courage.

Joey sprawled on the armchair. "No plans, huh?"

Chandler stopped and glared at Joey. "Not a one."

Gabe, perched on the kitchen counter, grinned. "How about breaking up with Janice?"

Chandler's eyes nearly popped out of his head. "Shut up."

Monica crossed her arms. "Listen, breaking up sucks, but it will suck even more if you stay in that... thing you call a relationship."

"Yeah, exactly—you just gotta do it," Gabe encouraged.

Chandler ran a hand through his hair. "No, I know, but it's just so hard? I mean, you're sitting there with her, she has no idea what's happening—and then you finally get up the courage to do it, and there's the horrible, awkward moment when you hand her the note."

Joey leaned forward. "Why do you have to break up with her? Just do the guy thing and stop calling."

Phoebe smiled sweetly. "Or, you know, I can do it with you."

Chandler raised an eyebrow. "Don't you think Janice will think we're ganging up on her?"

Phoebe shook her head. "No, I mean I'll break up with Tony while you break up with Janice."

Gabe nodded approvingly. "There is merit to that. Maybe you won't feel as awkward if you do it together. Plus, doing it in a familiar environment will make you feel more comfortable."

Chandler exhaled. "You know what, let's do it. We'll break up together."

Monica tilted her head at Phoebe. "Why do you want to break up with Tony anyway?"

Phoebe sighed dramatically. "It's just not fun anymore. I think it's because of the hunger strike."

Rachel burst into the kitchen, apron still on from her shift at Central Perk.

"Does anybody need anything else?" she asked, clearly annoyed about something.

Ross, sitting at the table, quickly changed his order mid-sentence when he noticed Rachel's glare. "I want nothing—actually, I'm just fine."

Phoebe patted Rachel's shoulder. "Why so angry this morning?"

Rachel let out a frustrated huff. "It's my dad—he wants to buy me a Mercedes."

Ross smirked sarcastically. "Ohhhh, that man burns me up."

"It's a Mercedes if I move back home. Oh, it's horrible—he called me 'young lady.'"

Gabe nudged Chandler, while saying," Didn't your father used to call you that Bing?" where Chandler just mouthed 'SHUT UP' to Gabe, who just laughed.

Monica chimed in, "Did he give you that whole 'you're-not-up-to-this' thing again?"

Rachel rolled her eyes. "Oh, yeah. I got the extended disco version, with three choruses of 'You'll never make it on your own.'"

The friends exchanged knowing looks. Chandler draped an arm around Rachel's shoulders. "Hey, we're here for you."

Phoebe added, "And after we break up two people today, we'll help you get that Mercedes—or at least make you laugh about it."

Gabe raised his coffee cup in a toast. "To big debates, bigger breakups, and the best group of friends anyone could ask for."

Everyone clinked their mugs and cups, united in laughter and solidarity as the morning sun streamed through the window, promising that no matter how complicated life got, they'd face it together.

AT NOON

Gab then went and attended his classes at his university. It was a normal lecture day, in terms of medical school, they just passed their assignments, lectured a bit, conducted their daily assessments and quizzes, it was just normal, he aced the exams, and continued to his tutor duties, this time, another 5 students want to join his sessions, since it has been proven to increase their grades, they all paired their schedule with Ozzy, since they are also closed friends and they have the same classes and sections.

It was nearly 10 pm when they finished. The library, which used to be crowded with students, was now empty, only the librarian and them, when they were dismissed for the day. Gabe was approached by the librarian.

"Young man, can you add another student for your tutor services, my niece want to go ahead with her studies" The librarian asked.

"Advance her studies? Is she not yet in College?" Gabe asked the librarian,

"No, but she wants to be an Aerospace engineer. I figured that if you can learn all of those subjects fast, I guess you can teach her the mathematics parts of those subjects," The librarian said.

"I can try, but I will have to borrow engineering books you have, especially for Aerospace Engineering," Gabe said.

"Does that mean you're accepting?" The librarian said.

"Yes, she can come to our sessions. I'll give you a schedule later, I'll take those books now please," Gabe said, wait for the librarian to collect the books that would introduce him to Aerospace Engineering, he was not worried that it would take him a long time to learn it, after maybe 30 minutes, the librarian came back with the books he asked, he then check out and went home. There he saw Ross, clearly happy about something that had happened in the evening.

"What got you so happy?" Gabe asked.

"Rachel just kissed me," Ross said, like a little boy who had just been kissed by their crush.

"Really? Kissed huh? Did you capitalize it?" Gabe asked,

"Capitalized how?" Ross was oblivious to the question.

"You know, capitalize like asked her out on a date?" Gabe clarified to Ross.

"Ohhh...No, I didn't capitalize it," Ross said.

"How can you be so idiot, dumbass, she gives you a signal before right? When you were left alone with her in Monica's apartment, then she kissed you, what kind of play are you doing here?" Gabe asked, frustrated about the pace Ross was doing.

"Hey, I just blackout you know, I can't help it," Ross said, defending himself.

"What would happen if she thinks that you're not interested in her? Considering she kissed you and didn't asked her out? and then she finds someone else." Gabe ask Ross who just became silent.

"Come on, make your move, you will lose her if you don't grab your chance now," Gabe said, convincing him.

"So, do you think I should ask her out then?" Ross asked.

"Yes, SIGH!, listening to you made me tired than I was after 8 hours of studying, I want to sleep now," Gabe said to Ross, while walking to his bedroom, ending his day.
