Chapter 16 - Part 15

I froze.

Turning my head, I saw Amanda storming toward us, her face twisted with rage.

"Lucas, don't forget—we're still married!"

Her eyes locked onto my hand, still clasped with Sophie's, burning with accusation.

"And you have the audacity to be holding hands with another woman? Have you no shame?!"

A flicker of anger ignited in my chest.

"What right do you have to question me?"

Sophie crossed her arms and smirked. "Exactly. At least we're out in the open, unlike some people—playing the victim while being the real betrayer."

Amanda ignored her, her sharp gaze never leaving mine.

"So, this is why you're so determined to divorce me? Because of her?"

My jaw tightened, my voice dropping to a cold, steady tone.

"Amanda, do you really think everyone is as filthy as you?"

"You know damn well why I want a divorce."

Amanda let out a low, mocking laugh, completely unfazed. "So what?"

"I already apologized, and yet you're still hell-bent on leaving me. You even went behind my back and quit your job—don't tell me it wasn't because of her?"

"Lucas, you're the one betraying this marriage!"

A bitter chuckle rose in my throat.

Five years.

For five years, I had poured my heart and soul into this relationship.

I had tried—tried so damn hard—to mend a marriage that was already crumbling.

And this was what I got in return. Blame. Denial. A complete refusal to take responsibility.

"Amanda, don't you think this is ridiculous?"

My patience wore thin, my voice edged with exhaustion.

"Between the two of us, who really destroyed this marriage?"

"I don't care! As long as we're still legally married, you are not allowed to be involved with another woman!"

Amanda reached for my hand.

I stepped back, dodging her grasp, my voice cutting through the air like a blade.

"Enough."

"I told you—I want nothing to do with you anymore. I—"

Before I could finish, a lazy, drawling voice rang out from behind me.

"Amanda~"

Ethan strolled up, all confidence and smugness, his arm slipping effortlessly around Amanda's shoulders. His grin was downright insufferable.

"Well, well. Mr. Lucas, long time no see. You're looking... older. Guess life hasn't been treating you too well, huh?"

Watching them standing there, acting like this whole thing was some kind of game, I could only laugh.

"Amanda, don't you think your words just now sound a little hypocritical?"

Amanda let out a slow breath, gently pushing Ethan's arm off her. Her face was unreadable, as if she had already rehearsed her response.

"I just brought him here to help him adjust to his new work environment. That's all."

"And?"

I met her gaze, my expression unreadable.

"What exactly are you trying to prove?"

No matter how she tried to twist it, one thing remained unchanged.

She cheated.

"I..."

"There's no need to explain."

I cut her off, my voice calm. Detached.

There was nothing left to say.
