Sophie couldn't help but smile, humming along with the radio, clearly in a great mood.
At the airport, I spotted a few colleagues from the company, which immediately piqued my curiosity.
"Are we closing a big deal?"
With this kind of lineup, it didn't seem like just another routine business trip.
Sophie shook her head mysteriously. "You'll find out when we get there."
Her secretive demeanor made me chuckle. I didn't press for answers.
Honestly, I had agreed to this trip just to escape Amanda's persistent entanglement.
Besides, with the boss's daughter leading the way, whatever this was about was way above my pay grade.
The moment we boarded the plane, Sophie was out like a light.
She must've been exhausted.
Quietly, I signaled a flight attendant and asked for a blanket to drape over her.
Even in her sleep, she looked troubled, her brows furrowed.
But at least she was sleeping deeply.
Just as I was about to get some rest myself, I felt a gentle weight on my shoulder.
I turned my head—Sophie's head had slumped against me.
I hesitated for a second but didn't move.
And so we stayed like that until the landing announcement crackled through the speakers.
Only then did Sophie slowly wake up.
"Hey, you're up?"
She blinked, then quickly realized the position we were in. A faint flush rose to her cheeks as she stuck out her tongue playfully.
"Stayed up too late last night."
"Work?"
"Nope. Gaming."
Her nonchalant response caught me off guard. I let out a dry chuckle, shaking my head.
"You really are something else..."
Once we got off the plane, our colleagues scattered in different directions.
I was about to follow them when Sophie grabbed my arm.
"We're not going with them. Someone's coming to pick us up."
I shot her a questioning look but didn't push for details.
Still, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was... off. Especially with the amused glances our colleagues gave us before leaving.
Before long, a sleek business van pulled up in front of us.
We climbed in, and the vehicle headed straight for the outskirts of town.
What kind of business required a meeting in the middle of nowhere?
I smirked. "You're not planning to sell me off, are you?"
Sophie rolled her eyes. "As if you'd be worth anything."
Fair point.
I let it go.
Eventually, the car pulled up in front of a villa—or rather, it looked more like a luxury resort.
The sight that greeted me the moment I stepped out left me momentarily speechless.
"Miss, we'll handle everything from here."
A few uniformed butlers approached, effortlessly taking our luggage.
Sophie handed over her suitcase without a second thought.
That only made me feel more out of place.
Was this... her family's estate?
I was given a room right next to Sophie's.
As I set my bag down, she stretched lazily, letting out a yawn.
"I'm gonna take a nap. Wake me up in the afternoon, okay?"
