The most was from her mother—Jessica Hale—with at least twenty.
As she stared at the screen, her name stared back at her like a fire alarm. Then Zephyr, with nine. Claudia had tried three times.
The phone buzzed again. It was yet another call from her mother.
Shantel pressed the side button to silence it. She wasn't ready for her yet… not until she knows what is going on.
Instead, she tapped Zephyr's name to call him back—but just as the call was about to go through, another one came in.
This time it was from Jack.
Shantel blinked. "Timely," she whispered to herself, accepting the call with a swipe.
She answered without greeting. "Tell me you found something, please."
Jack didn't bother with preambles either. "More than something," his voice crackled through."Where are you?"
"Three Star."
"Good. Don't leave...I'll be there in twenty,"
"What's going on?" she asked, gripping her robe closer to her chest, suddenly cold now. "Is this about the van parked outside my place?"
