Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: For the greater good!

The magic system of this world is idealistic.

Every spell cast encompasses the wizard's emotions and intentions at the time.

So, in the end, the essence of magic in this world is, to some extent, "making things happen with your mind."

Therefore, truly powerful wizards often don't need to use spells to cast magic.

Of course, when they do speak the incantation, their emotions and intentions reach their highest point, and the power of the magic is therefore greatly amplified.

For example, Tom in the future using the Killing Curse as a simple attack...

However, for Tom at that time, loudly saying the incantation of the Killing Curse not only increased the power of the spell, but it also served as a deterrent to others.

At this moment, Wade lay on the recliner and entered the same meditative state as before.

But this time, he didn't deliberately try to suppress the chaotic thoughts. Instead, he silently focused on the "energy" known as magic that flowed within him.

I need to be calm, my mind free of distractions, Wade thought.

Then, he felt his magic begin to move, though it also seemed to stay still.

Just as Wade was about to try again, suddenly, he felt a wave of calmness in his heart, and all the distracting thoughts disappeared in an instant!

Ahh~

The feeling was very strange, like being in a bustling marketplace when suddenly all the surrounding sounds fade away, and everything becomes eerily quiet, leaving only the sound of his breathing and heartbeat.

Wade marveled at the change, but then he felt a bit puzzled.

Clearly, he was still thinking—so why was his mind free of distractions?

Wasn't this a contradiction?

It was like someone testing his breath, finding that he wasn't breathing, but he could still feel himself breathing!

Why couldn't others detect that he was breathing?

It didn't take long for Wade to figure out the reason.

It turned out that his distractions hadn't disappeared, and his thinking hadn't stopped.

They had just been hidden away!

Why was this the case?

Because magic could fulfill a wizard's intention.

So, in order to fulfill Wade's intention of having a mind free of distractions, his magic had simply hidden away the distractions that Wade could not remove.

Then, the magic created a brain for Wade that had no memories or any traces of thought, replacing the original brain.

In other words, the memories and thoughts presented in this fake brain were what Wade needed others to see—all of them were false.

The real brain, on the other hand, was locked behind the door.

It was only at this moment that Wade truly understood the principle behind Occlumency and successfully reached the first stage of the technique.

That was to completely hide his memories and true thoughts.

Without wasting any time, Wade began attempting the second stage.

He started expanding the size of the new "brain," letting the false thoughts and memories tightly wrap around his real thoughts and memories.

Then, Wade attempted to communicate between the fake and the real "brains."

He then tried to secretly transfer the false thoughts and memories created by the real brain into the fake brain...

In that instant, the stiff, false thoughts and memories in the fake brain suddenly became lively!

They were identical to the real memories and thoughts!

In other words, Wade could now change the memories and thoughts in his mind at any time.

What others could see was only what Wade wanted them to see.

It was hard to tell how much time had passed, but when Wade opened his eyes, the sky was completely dark.

Haah.

He took a moment to sense his own state, and Wade felt incredibly satisfied. Without a doubt, he had truly learned Occlumency.

The feeling... was a bit hard to describe.

It was like wearing a pair of sunglasses.

When others tried to look into his eyes, all they could see were the dark lenses, but his own eyes could still see through them clearly...

Although Wade had only just begun learning Occlumency, it was more than enough to deal with Queenie's passive Legilimency.

At this thought, Wade couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

"You're awake? You really slept for a long time," Tom said, eyeing Wade suspiciously.

He almost thought Wade had slept through the whole day.

"Oh, I stayed up late reading last night, so I'm really tired today."

"But didn't you go to bed pretty early last night?"

"I couldn't sleep, so I read a book," Wade casually said.

At this moment, Toby had already brought over the dinner that had been set aside for Wade.

"Wade, you'll get used to it. I was the same way. When I went to a new place, I always couldn't sleep because I wasn't used to it," Professor Hicks said with a smile.

She still thought that Wade's inability to sleep at night was just because he wasn't accustomed to the new environment.

"Yeah, I'll try to get used to it," Wade said, nodding seriously.

Wade suddenly realized that after mastering Occlumency, his acting skills seemed to have improved as well.

With the false expressions and appropriately fake emotions, it felt seamless... Damn.

Occlumency could enhance my acting skills like this... what a great thing.

No wonder in the future, Professor Snape was able to be a spy under Tom's nose, never revealing his true identity until the day he sacrificed himself.

Wade, who hadn't eaten much all day, was indeed hungry.

After devouring his dinner, he once again told Professor Hicks that he felt tired and wanted to rest.

Tom looked at Wade as if he were looking at a pig.

Who sleeps that much every day?

This guy suddenly became so lazy—didn't he fear that his strength would surpass his, and he would take revenge?

However, what Tom didn't know was that when Wade said he was tired last night, it was a lie. But now, when he said he was tired, it was the truth.

After all, in order to learn Occlumency, he had spent a lot of energy and really needed to rest.

After closing the door again, Wade sat on the bed and opened the system shop.

He hadn't had time to check it last night, and if he didn't look now, there might be something good that would refresh in the early morning and be lost.

[Item 1: Felix Felicis 10ml (Unlocked) 500 Merit Points]

[Item 2: Unicorn Hair (Unlocked) 5 Merit Points]

[Refresh Time Countdown: 5 hours 21 minutes 55 seconds]

[Merit Points: 100 points]

[Dark Lord Achievement: Not Achieved]

Wade immediately spotted the bottle of Felix Felicis.

This was a great item!

After taking it, it would enhance a person's luck! And the brewing process was very difficult.

Even for a Master of Potions, guaranteeing a high success rate from start to finish would still take at least six months!

Wade really wanted to buy the Felix Felicis, whether for personal use or to sell, it would be a great choice.

But since he didn't have enough merit points right now, Wade could only lock the Felix Felicis for now.

As for the other item, the unicorn hair, Wade decided not to waste any merit points on it.

After closing the system shop page, Wade gradually began to feel an overwhelming sense of drowsiness.

The side effects of the Invigoration Draught, combined with his own excessive energy consumption, made it hard for Wade to resist. Soon, he fell into a deep sleep.

...

This sleep was very restless. Wade, in a half-conscious state, seemed to feel that he had arrived at a very strange place.

That place was all white, as if shrouded in thick fog.

In the thick fog, a shadow with an unclear shape was waving at him. The shadow's lips moved, as if it was urgently saying something to him.

Unable to make out the shadow's words, Wade became anxious. He moved his legs, which for some reason had become incredibly heavy, and stumbled forward.

Ugh..

Suddenly, Wade tripped over something, and everything around him began to collapse, constantly disappearing, along with the shadow, which was gradually fading away...

Hmm! Hmm??

Wade tried to open his mouth to ask who the shadow was, but to his surprise, he found that he couldn't speak!

At that moment, he suddenly heard someone calling his name from behind.

When he turned his head to see who was calling, everything in front of him suddenly vanished.

Toby's terrified expression appeared right in front of him...

"…Young master Wade! Wake up quickly! Young master Wade has to leave! Toby has to take young master Wade and young master Tom away! Someone... someone is attacking us!"

Wade jolted awake, and at the same time, the noisy sounds from outside the house filtered in!

There were crackling sounds of spells being cast, along with various shouting and chanting...

Among them, there was one phrase that Wade found particularly familiar—"For the greater good!"
