Chapter 10 - Demon king 3

As i recalled the events of the game, I remembered a turning point—a moment that had determined the direction of the story.

It had all started with what seemed like a simple mission that the protagonist had been given by the system.

But during the mission, he had stumbled upon a group of demon worshippers doing a forbidden ritual. Their goal was clear: to resurrect the Demon King, Asmodeus, who was sealed in the Abyss.

The main character, alone, battled hard and was able to slay the cultists. But he came too late. The ritual had succeeded already—Asmodeus had been freed, although not fully.

When the protagonist fought him, he was completely helpless. Even with the aid of the system, he was no match for the Demon King.

The feeling of being powerless was crushing.

That was when Asmodeus suddenly offered something. He was willing to make a deal: a soul contract that would make the protagonist powerful in return for this contract. Surprisingly ,the system itself encouraged the protagonist to agree, telling him that it was a chance for his growth.

But the protagonist wasn't reckless. He knew the risks of setting Asmodeus free entirely, so he added a crucial condition—Asmodeus would never hurt humanity.

To his surprise,The Demon King agreed, but in return,he asked for something too. He wanted a vessel and capable vessel to be resurrected in. Until that point, he would be bound to the hero.

In time ,the protagonist upheld his promise. He found a vessel big enough to hold Asmodeus' soul—an angel.

This was how everything unfolded in the game. The designers had used this event to introduce a new and surprising character—one who was once a cruel Demon King but, when he was brought back to life, became humanity's ally, battling alongside humans against the very demons that once he ruled over.

Even the main character had never really understood why Asmodeus had allied himself with humans. That was a secret that remained unrevealed—until much, much later in the game, when a revelation shook things up.

In the First Great War, Asmodeus had not been defeated by the power of humans or because of dragons but, He had been betrayed by his own kind. And that betrayal had made him prisoner and imprisoned by the humans he now fought to protect.

(Back to the present)

"The wound of betrayal by your own people hurts more than any scar an enemy could ever inflict."

The instant those words had escaped my lips, Asmodeus froze.

His face, normally unreadable and unyielding, flashed—briefly. A flicker of surprise appeared in his scarlet eyes, piercing the cold face he had thus far upheld.

For the first time, he was not looking down at me— And in that instant, I knew.

He saw danger in me.

Before I could react, he disappeared. In the next moment, he stood directly in front of me.

His hand closed around my throat.

Shit....

Fucking hell—not again.

"Listen, worm," he spat, his voice low and menacing. "I am going to give you a first and last warning. From now on, you will be very, very careful with your words." His grip tightened, and it became difficult to breathe. "Now… explain what you meant by those words."

He released me as suddenly as he had taken hold of me, pushing me away with enough strength that I stumbled.

I coughed, rubbing my throat. How many damn times is he going to do this?! I glared at him but restrained my anger. I wasn't in a place to piss him off.

"Now, boy—start talking."

His eyes pierced me, hot and piercing. If eyes could burn you, I would have been dust by now.

I took a deep breath, standing up to my feet from the floor. My body was sore, but I gritted it out and stood.

"I know," I said. My voice was rough, but I made myself loud and clear. "I know that during the Great War, you were betrayed by your own kind. And you want vengeance, don't you?"

Something for the first time shifted in his face. The coldness in his face cracked slightly.

Shock.

Even for a mere second, I saw it.

His eyes dangerously narrowed. "Brat. how do you know that?"

I held his gaze and tried to straighten my shoulders as my sore throat protested. "It's not important that how I know. The only thing that matters here is that .....I know"

"Don't try to play with words "His eyes darkened further. "I told you to watch what you say to me," he said in an even colder voice than before. "Do you want to die?"

I swallowed hard. This son of a bitch is really crazy enough to kill me, even if it costs him his revenge.

"Look," I said, holding up my hands a little. "I just want to talk, okay?"

His face relaxed—just a little.

"Fine," he growled. "Talk. Say what you have to say."

I breathed slowly. This was it—the actual gamble.

"Okay. I'll tell you all I know… and how I know it." I waited, allowing my words to hang in the air. Then I asked, "But first—do you want to be released from these chains or not?"

Silence.

A heavy, crushing silence descended on the underground chamber. Even the air seemed thick, as if my question had altered something.

Then, after what seemed like an eternity, Asmodeus spoke.

".Okay, brat. I'll play your game. For the time being."

His red eyes glowed in the semi-darkness.

"Yes," he replied. "I want to be released."

"That's good to hear," I replied, my face still calm and collected.

"Okay then, i can release you—"

"Hey, brat."

He interrupted me halfway through the sentence, his tone laced with suspicion.

"First, tell me—why are you trying to release me?"

I let out a sigh, already tired of this back and forth. "Because, as I've said, I want to survive."

He raised an eyebrow, still not believing me.

"As you can see, I'm unawakened. Helpless. Like this, I won't live for much longer. But with your help, I can grow stronger—and, of course, live."

"Is that so." he grumbled, obviously not satisfied with my response.

"Okay then," I went on, proceeding. "Back to how we're going to set you free from those chains—"

"So, you do have a way, huh, brat?" he cut in again, his face darkening with a slow, evil smile.

"Yes, I do," I replied resolutely.

"The solution is easy—

A contract.

His face clouded over with a look of confusion. "What do you mean by a contract?"

"I mean you have to make a soul contract with me."

Silence.

The underground chamber dropped once more into a heavy, choking silence.

Then, suddenly—

"Ha. hahaha. HAHAHAHAHA!"

Asmodeus threw back his head and laughed like a lunatic, his voice resonating in the chamber.

"What the hell is this crazy bastard laughing about now?" I muttered to myself.

He regained his composure a moment later, grinning with pointed teeth.

"What an amusing worm you are ," he stated, his scarlet eyes glowing in the darkness. "Do you really think you are worthy enough to make a contract with me, you insect?"

His eyes were piercing, full of something both sneering and hungry.

But this time I didn't flinch.

"It doesn't matter," I said.

His smile slowed. "What?"

"I said, it doesn't matter if I'm worthy or if I'm an insect," I said again, my voice calm. "Because the thing is—you need me."

His face grew stern. "What did you just say, brat?"

"You need me," I repeated. "Because this is the only way to free you.

Do you really think anybody else would be crazy enough to help you?"

His smile vanished altogether. For the first time since our conversation started, he was not speaking.

Then—

".Okay."

He broke the silence for a change.

"Tell me, boy," he said, his voice relaxed but merry. "Just how can a mere contract break the seal completely ?"

"It's easy," I told him. "The only reason you're still bound, even after the ritual, is that a powerful soul is stopping your fully demon soul—preventing it from totally being free."

I pointed toward the dragon's fossilized remains.

"Kamron's soul," I said.

Asmodeus turned to look in the direction I was looking, his face changed into a look of annoyance. Then, he glanced at me again.

"And how are you going to reverse it?"

"Easy. By the soul contract."

He raised an eyebrow.

"By creating a contract with me, I'll be able to transfer the dragon essence that I possess within me to you. That essence will neutralize the suppression and enable you to escape."

"Hah." Asmodeus released a slow laugh. "Is that so."

Then his eyes narrowed.

"One thing, brat," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "After entering into this contract with you—won't I be stuck with you forever?"

"No. Not forever," I explained. "You'll only have to stay with me until I can find a suitable vessel—one capable of holding a powerful soul such as yours."

"And you're sure you can find such a body?"

"Yes," I replied without hesitation.

His eyes narrowed. "Just—why are you so confident unwhat you're saying?"

I grinned. "Because I already know where and where u can find it."

"And I suppose you are not going to tell me that either" he said being annoyed with me

"I told you—I'll tell you everything after we make a contract. So don't keep asking me that again," I said firmly.

Asmodeus clicked his tongue in annoyance but didn't push it further.

"Hey… what did you say your name was? Damion or something?"

"It's Daemon," I corrected him.

Ah, Daemon," he repeated, before tilting his head. "You mentioned you wanted to get stronger with my help. So what exactly do you want from me?"

I smirked. "Nothing much," I said casually. "Just a copy of your bloodline ability."

Silence.

A heavy, suffocating silence.

Then—

"Ha… my bloodline, you say?" Asmodeus let out a low chuckle, his tone laced with something unreadable.

"And, of course, everything else you know," I added. "You'll teach me that too."

His face hardened at my selfish demands. He stared at me, unreadable, the atmosphere around him growing heavier.

Then, after a long pause—

"Okay."

I blinked. "Wait, what? You're really agreeing to all that?" I asked, genuinely surprised. I hadn't expected him to accept so easily.

His expression changed. "What do you want me to say, then, you fucking insect?" His irritation was evident. "I don't have a choice."

"But listen carefully ".

In an instant, his clawed hand darted out, inches from my face. The air itself vibrated around us, charged with raw energy.

"If you attempt to play any tricks." His voice fell, dangerously low. "You won't even have time to regret it."

The tension in the chamber became claustrophobic. His scarlet eyes blazed into mine, waiting, testing.

I swallowed hard but didn't flinch.

"I wouldn't dream," I said,managing a grin. "After all. I prefer staying alive."

His mouth curled slightly—whether at amusement or threat, I wasn't sure.

"Good," he said quietly. "Then let's get started."
