Chapter 17 - The Flicker of Truth

As they returned to the Dream world, the guide was the first to speak,

"There was no need to be frightened, for she to see you, she would have to be in control of her subconscious, that's not something a child without soul Divinity can do"

'Then why did it feel like she was staring right at me?'

Just recalling the cold soul piercing gaze was enough to send chills down his spine, but the thought was soon replaced by another.

"You said soul Divinity, instead of soul energy, why?"

His scripture had Soul Divinity in it, with the number (II)- two, written beside it. He already had a faint idea about it but he wanted to confirm something else.

"Soul Divinity is the level of attainable Soul energy a soul can possess. The first stage is when the soul is awakened, the next stage makes the soul unnatural, capable to perform miracles, in this stage the soul gathers beads of soul energy,"

"The third stage (III) is Supernatural, here the believer would be capable of impossible feats of Destruction or Alteration of reality, the fourth stage (IV), is where most souls discover their Immortality and begin their ascension, and in the final stage (V), they transcend into godhood,"

A slow realization crept over Izikel.

"So, with each stage, the nature of soul energy becomes… more divine?"

The guide nodded.

"Yes. It brightens. At the final stage, it shines with the brilliance of the original energy that flows from the Altar itself. That is the radiance of a True God."

Izikel realized that was what the two meant, that he was already in the 2nd stage of Divinity and that was why he could perform miracles. He already suspected that if he found a way to increase his divinity, it would increase the amount of soul energy he could hold, and now the guide had just confirmed it.

But unknown to the dream guide, the energy flowing from the altar into his soul wasn't divine energy of a True god, it was chaos energy of an Outergod. So it probably wasn't going to get brighter, it would most likely get darker.

He nodded with satisfaction, because he also just confirmed something else. The guide… the guide wasn't created by his imagination, or instead she wasn't connected to his soul energy.

All the information she just revealed to him were things he had no idea about. Under normal circumstances shouldn't it count as Divination?

If she was really created by him and revealing information he doesn't know, shouldn't his soul energy be reducing? But no, it remained the same.

And also she gave him information about the dream world, he doubted that there was anyone else that knew about this world, which means she didn't divine that information. She wasn't using divination, she was simply telling him what she knew.

If Izikel did create her, he was sure he had created something unreal even by the standards of this world, but if he didn't create her, what was she then?

Sometimes with the way she spoke, he could easily mistake her for a real person. Almost as if she was sentient.

'maybe she's like one of those modern artificial intelligence that sounds so realistic'

For now, the mystery of the guide was the least of his worries. If anything, he was grateful for her presence. At least she helped him navigate his new abilities, unraveling the unknown step by step.

"So how can I increase my divinity?"

The guide hesitated.

"That… I do not know."

For obvious reasons Izikel didn't really believe that. He couldn't tell if the guide was simply just holding out or genuinely lacked the answer. Either way, there was nothing he could do but accept it.

"Alright," he said simply.

He would just have to find a Divine believer to explain the rest, maybe Sophia or Dremlin.

As if to change the topic the guide asked,

"So, did you find what you were looking for in the girl's dream?"

Izikel exhaled, running a hand through his hair.

"I don't know… Can I watch it again?"

The guide responded immediately.

"Of course. I can replay it from your memory if you'd like."

A floating screen materialized before him, shimmering like liquid glass. The scene from Lyzah's dream flickered to life, playing back the crucial moments. Izikel focused, rewinding the part where he was stabbed. Again. And again.

Each time, something gnawed at him. A subtle, nagging wrongness.

There's something off about this.

He narrowed his eyes, replaying it once more. And that's when he caught it.

"To the ordinary eye, this would seem like nothing more than a reckless mistake. An irresponsible adult failing to stop an escalating fight." His voice was quiet, but firm. "But… there are two things that don't add up."

He zoomed in on Saint Raynoel, watching his posture, his reactions—or lack thereof.

"The first is hesitation. Raynoel had every opportunity to intervene, but he waited—until the very moment the sword pierced the child's chest."

Then, he turned his focus to Lyzah. Her expression. Her intent.

"The second is her eyes. Look at her before she strikes. The intent is unmistakable. The attack is precise, aimed straight for the heart. The force behind it—deliberate. There's no way she did this by accident."

Yet the instant the blade sank into his chest, something in her gaze shifted.

The intent vanished.

The way she looked at the sword, at his bleeding body—it was as if she had no memory of striking the blow.

Izikel leaned back, exhaling.

"It's almost like…" He trailed off, unsure how to put it into words.

Was she simply lost in the heat of battle? Or… was there something deeper at play?

His fingers tightened into a fist.

Izikel wasn't sure, he wasn't sure about anything he was seeing or feeling. He didn't understand this ability and there was no training manual for it.

'This sixth sense… it's revealing things to me that I can't even begin to explain. Is it truly helping me? Or is it making me overthink?'

For now, it was impossible to say.

But if even a fraction of what he had observed was true, it raised unsettling possibilities.

Had Saint Raynoel been waiting for this outcome? Was he working with the Druid girl? That seemed unlikely—it was Izikel who had suggested fighting with swords.

Then… was this all Lyzah's doing?

A cold uncertainty settled in his chest.

'Someone out there might be plotting my death'

He inhaled deeply, forcing himself to stay composed.

For now, all he could do was stay cautious. He would have to continue his investigation tomorrow.
