Chapter 46 - The Unseen Path

Our character's lessons are starting.

[After School]

(This time it wasn't a boring day; it started with questioning and continued with conversation. Maybe it was still a free day, but not as much as the others.)

Our character gets in the minibus and heads home.

Sarah: Welcome, honey.

Character: You're welcome, mom.

Our character goes to his room and turns on the computer.

(I hope Leonardo answered.)

Our character checks his emails.

(Yes, there is an email.)

Our character reads the email.

Email: Yes, ****, we can see how excited you are, but your start time has been postponed even further than we thought and will continue to be postponed. We have very important work to do as a community right now.

(Is that it? I was supposed to be one of the pioneers. Will I always be in the background, just a simple hacker, or will I never be a hacker at all? Is Leonardo playing a trick on me? This answer won't work. What are these important tasks they're talking about? I need to send a stronger email this time; otherwise I'll keep getting these simple answers.)

Our character sends another email to Leonardo Moretti.

Email: This answer isn't enough, Leonardo. You told me I'd be one of your pioneers, but now I see you've put me on the back burner. What's this important task you're talking about, Leonardo? I expect a quick response; I know you're keeping me waiting.

(Okay, this email should be enough.)

(I expect a quick response this time.)

(I'll just hang around on the computer until I get a response.)

[15 Minutes Later]

Sarah: ****, come here and help me.

Character: Oh, okay, I'm coming.

Our character goes to his mother.

Character: What should I do?

Sarah: Put the jars on the counter.

Character: Okay.

Our character puts the jars on the counter and goes back to his room.

(Let me check my email; I thought it would be quick this time.)

Our character checks his email.

(I knew this would be helpful; I'm so happy right now, I know they're watching me. They check their email all the time, why would they take so long to respond?)

(Okay, let's see what this email says.)

Our character reads the email.

Email: Look, ****, everyone knows you're going to be one of our pioneers, but we need time right now. Unfortunately, you're not a full member yet, so you won't be able to learn what the job is. You'll learn when the time comes.

(I guess no answer will convince me yet. We'll have to make do with it. I'll just wait; there's nothing else to do. I've been through a lot lately and it's time to rest.)

Our character spends time on the computer until midnight, then takes a sleeping pill and goes to sleep.
