Chapter 20 - 20.The Ancient Legends Discovered in the Library

Seeking information on the Primordial Gods, Merslin and his companions followed Gnome Elder Boldrak deep into the city to a massive underground library.

This library was a treasure trove of ancient tomes and magical texts. As the doors opened, they were met with towering bookshelves stretching toward the ceiling, and intricate mechanical devices scattered throughout the space, assisting with cataloging and retrieval.

Boldrak (gesturing toward the library): "This is the repository of our people's knowledge, where the history of the gnomes has been carefully preserved. If there is any record of the Primordial Gods, you will find it here. Feel free to search for whatever you need."

Merslin's team spread out, each searching for something of interest. Aria, an avid book lover, eagerly moved between the towering shelves, picking out intriguing titles. She was particularly drawn to books on ancient magic and healing techniques.

Aria (excitedly scanning the shelves): "This library is incredible! So many records on ancient magic and healing arts… There's not enough time to read everything!"

Meanwhile, Merslin carefully combed through the archives, searching for any historical records on the battles against the Primordial Gods, hoping to uncover a crucial clue.

Serena, initially browsing through the books with mild interest, soon lost focus—until she stumbled upon a peculiar gnome fashion magazine. She smirked and flipped through its pages.

Serena (grinning as she flips through the magazine): "Oh, this is amusing! I didn't expect gnomes to care so much about fashion."

The magazine was filled with illustrations of gnomes dressed in intricate, magically enhanced outfits, blending functionality with elaborate designs. Serena chuckled, admiring the creativity and wondering if she could incorporate some of these ideas into her own style.

Lisa, on the other hand, quickly grew bored. She wasn't fond of books to begin with, and after a few minutes of flipping through dusty pages, she leaned against a desk, folding her arms and dozing off.

Lisa (muttering as she drifts off): "Ugh… Reading is so dull… I'd rather be training…"

Aria, noticing Lisa falling asleep, covered her mouth to stifle a laugh. It was no surprise—Lisa was far more comfortable swinging a sword than turning pages.

At the far end of the library, a series of mechanical devices hummed as they sorted and organized books. Serena, always fascinated by machinery, approached them with curiosity.

Serena (watching the machines closely): "These are amazing… They can retrieve and organize books on their own? How do they work?"

She reached out to observe the intricate gears turning smoothly, marveling at the gnomes' technical prowess.

Boldrak, noticing her curiosity, chuckled.

Boldrak (proudly): "These machines are the result of our people's ingenuity. Every piece, every gear was crafted with precision. It is the fusion of our craftsmanship and magic. You seem quite interested in machinery."

Serena (grinning): "How could I not be? Anything this complex and functional is bound to be fascinating."

As everyone continued their exploration, Elena pulled out an old tome from a dusty corner and gathered the group. The book contained an ancient legend claiming that the gnomes themselves were once mechanical beings.

Elena (reading aloud): "According to this legend, gnomes were originally living machines. They were constructed with magic and machinery, evolving over time into sentient beings. However, this has always been considered nothing more than a myth. The gnomes themselves regard it as a tale born from their natural craftsmanship and intelligence."

Merslin raised an eyebrow, intrigued by the idea.

Merslin (curiously): "Is there any truth to this? Could gnomes have really been mechanical beings in the past?"

Boldrak stroked his beard, pondering the question.

Boldrak (smiling): "It is an old story, passed down through generations. The legend claims that our ancestors were created by ancient sorcerers as living machines, but over time, they evolved into what we are today."

Aria (thoughtfully): "Then why was this legend dismissed? There must have been a reason."

Boldrak (nodding): "You are perceptive, Aria. The legend's credibility faded because it is so ancient that almost no written records remain. As it was passed down orally, the details became muddled, and it gradually transformed into little more than folklore."

Elena (curious): "Do you know how the legend originally started?"

Boldrak (seriously): "It likely originated when our people first began mastering technology and magic. Compared to other races, we advanced rapidly. Perhaps that made others believe we were not natural beings, but rather, creations."

Merslin folded his arms, deep in thought.

Merslin (thinking aloud): "What if this legend isn't just a myth? If the gnomes' proficiency with machinery and magic stems from something deeper, then there may be more secrets hidden here than we realize."

Boldrak (agreeing): "I have pondered the same. But no gnome has ever uncovered the truth. If you are willing to pursue this mystery, I will aid you in your search."

Determined to find answers, Merslin's group continued their research, hoping that somewhere within these books, they would find a clue that could help them in their battle against the Primordial Gods.

The Ancient Golem's Core

As they studied the gnome legend and the Primordial Gods, Merslin recalled the ancient golem core they had acquired in a past battle. Though the core had lost its glow, it still radiated an undeniable power. Believing it might contain a crucial clue, he carefully retrieved it from his bag and presented it to Boldrak.

Merslin (holding the core carefully): "Boldrak, take a look at this. We found this during a battle—it's the core of an ancient golem. Its light has faded, but I can still sense something within it. Do you recognize this?"

The moment Merslin revealed the core, Boldrak's eyes gleamed with excitement. He gently took the core into his hands, examining it with deep interest.

Boldrak (intrigued): "Oh! This is a true relic! An ancient golem core… Though it has lost its luster, there is no doubt that a great power once resided within it. Such artifacts are extremely rare, even among us gnomes."

Merslin, even more curious, leaned in.

Merslin (eagerly): "Do you think it's possible to uncover its secrets? Could studying this core lead to something useful?"

Boldrak's expression grew serious as he carefully turned the core over in his hands.

Boldrak (nodding): "Yes, this core holds immense value. Ancient golems were not mere machines—they were the perfect fusion of powerful magic and refined technology. If we can analyze this, we may unlock something extraordinary."

Determined, Merslin handed the core back to Boldrak.

Merslin (confidently): "If this core can aid us in our journey, then it's worth studying. I trust your expertise to uncover its secrets."

Boldrak accepted the core with a firm nod.

Boldrak (grinning): "Then let's waste no time. We must take this to our research lab. There, our best minds will examine it thoroughly."

Following Boldrak, they navigated through the city until they reached the gnomes' central research facility. Unlike the rest of the city, this area was even more intricate—enormous pipes, rotating gears, and shimmering energy conduits filled the surroundings, creating a labyrinth of advanced engineering.

Inside the lab, Merslin's group was immediately struck by its scale. Towering machines lined the walls, gnome researchers busily moving between workstations. A massive glass dome overhead provided a view of the entire facility, and mechanical arms whirred as they assisted with experiments.

Boldrak (proudly): "This is our research lab, where we push the boundaries of technology and magic. If there is anywhere we can unlock the secrets of the golem core, it is here."

At the center of the lab stood a gnome with an air of authority—Grondark, the lead researcher. As soon as he saw Boldrak approach with the core, his eyes widened.

Grondark (excitedly): "Boldrak! It's been a while. You wouldn't be here unless something important had come up."

Boldrak held up the golem core.

Boldrak (seriously): "Grondark, this is an ancient golem core. It may still contain remnants of its original power. I believe you are the best person to study it."

Grondark's eyes sparkled as he took the core, sensing the faint energy still lingering within.

Grondark (grinning): "Now this is a find! Leave it to me. I will uncover whatever secrets it holds."

With that, the team's next challenge began—to unlock the power of the ancient golem.
