Chapter 13 - Chapter 13 — Room 58

There was silence in the hallway as Quinn walked, holding the piece of paper the nurse had given him. The paper had directions he'd need if he was to find the room he would be staying. And for the past ten minutes, he had just been walking, twisting and turning in winding corridors.

But as he walked, he had set at least three options up his sleeve.

1) settle down.

2) learn magic.

3) find a way to bring down Gran'le from within.

As simple as that.

But he had a strong feeling it'd take longer than he expected, making him wonder just how many months or years it was going to take for him to fully grow into power.

Judging from he had seen during the Selection, there were most probably other mages who were stronger and more superior.

But there was no need for the rush.

Patience was key to everything, perhaps.

Depending on the time he had left.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he stopped in front of the door he was looking for. Room 58. With a deep breath, he swung the door open, and light bathed his eyes.

The room itself wasn't that big, but it was enough accommodate two single beds on both sides of the walls, a closet, trunks at the ends of the bed, and a studying table.

It wasn't something fabulous, but he could work with that.

Entering into the room, he came across the dark haired boy who was lying on one of the beds, his legs crossed, a book between his fingers. His dark hair was a tousled mess on the white pillow, his shorts a neat contrast to his pale skin.

Quinn just looked at the boy, who was a bit taller than he was, and a bit more built, with the tangible lines that divided his bare chest. Back in Tokyo, he'd have been the kind of guy that girls would want to hang out with.

"Hope I'm not in the wrong room?" Quinn said, shutting the door behind him.

The boy clipped a page with his finger, jerking upright. His violet eyes met with Quinn, his lips parting from the straight line they once formed. "If you're here, it means you're in the right room."

Quinn ran a finger through his hair, feeling the soft texture melt into his skin. The sensation was worth it, enough to keep him distracted from the boy's violet eyes. "I'm Quinn by the way."

"I know you." The boy said. "Everyone who was at the Selection saw you...."

Quinn eyes widened. "...oh."

"Yes. You're quite famous, actually." The boy said, placing the book on the bed before he jumped to his feet. His hair fell down his neck, a few loose fringes hanging on his face, some cutting past his violet eye. "....I mean, how did you do that?"

"Do what?" Quinn asked. "Cause lastly I remembered being beat up."

"No." The boy said, stopping in front of Quinn. "You were incredible, with that girl. What's her name again? Emilia was it? Right. Emilia. You were like this perfect duo."

Quinn scratched the back of his neck, slowly taking a short step back. He didn't like the closeness that wrapped around them. Especially when one party was as good as half naked. It'd look bad. "It was nothing, trust me."

"No it wasn't." The boy said. "You summoned a fucking demon fox. And you could use other spells, like a caster."

Quinn was silent for a moment, before his lips suddenly stretched into a grin. A shadow covered most of his face, his eye glowing a faint shade of crimson. His fingers curled into a fist, veins popping on the back of his hand. He said, "Maybe that's because I'm the Demon King."

The boy's face went pale, his violet eyes stuck in an empty space. The air seemed to thicken, heavy with unspoken words. Time itself appeared to slow, as if it was holding its breath, waiting for the boy's reaction. Then, suddenly, the boy's face twisted, and he exploded into laughter. "The Demon King, in Gran'le?" he choked out between guffaws. "What a terrible joker you are."

Quinn knew he wasn't going to believe him, not when he looked so mundane, unlike the other demons he had seen. But it was enough to lighten up the mood. "Some jokes are meant to be true."

The boy laughed even harder, doubling over as he clutched his stomach. Tears streamed down his face, and his shoulders shook. Finally, he managed to compose himself, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. As he straightened up, his hand landed on Quinn's shoulder. "I'm Azra, by the way," he said, still chuckling. "Welcome to our humble abode, Your Majesty."

"The pleasure is mine." Quinn said, walking to the other bed. With a deep breath, he tossed himself down to the bed, where he just stared at the ceiling. At least he was done with settling down, and all that was left was to learn magic, and find a solution to these issues between demons and humans.

"Tomorrow is going to be one piece of a heavy day." Azra said, throwing himself back on the bed. "Your schedules came, I'll hand them to you by morning. And it seems, most of our classes are the same."

"Can't wait for the sun to rise." Quinn said. "I've got a lot of shit to learn."
