Chapter 11 - Trapped

As Mia sat down the glass of wine on the table, she felt her eyes sting. She thought that she was going to burst into tears but somehow she managed to stop herself.

The amount of liquor burnt her insides, making them twist and churn. At first Mia thought that it was just the amount of liquor that she had drank but soon she realised that there was something amiss.

Sweat started to form on her forehead and her breathing turned laboured. As she raised her head and looked at the bunch of men sitting in front of her, something clicked in her head.

So this was the trap.

She knew that Henry was thinking of pitting her but never—not even in her wildest dream she thought that Henry would use such a despicable move. Her breathing turned harsh and so did the fire burning in her heart.

On Henry's twenty-seventh birthday, she chose to stop chasing him and move on with her life. and tonight she decided to burn the memories that they shared, destroying the perfect image of Henry Holman that had once made her fall in love with him.

"If this is enough... I am leaving." Mia stared at Henry coldly

She supported her body with the help of the wall and staggered out of the VIP room. She could feel the heat rising in her body turbulently; it was as if countless ants were biting on her skin, making it even more painful.

Mia didn't know what kind of drug Henry and Ronald had used but she could feel her mind getting more and more fuzzy by the minute. A feeling of dizziness and lightheadedness started to overwhelm her, and Mia knew that she needed to get the fuck out of this room.

Because if she stayed, it would be over.

'My life, that is,' she thought.

Her vision started to blur as she stumbled forward. Because she couldn't see where she was going, Mia bumped into countless things.

Henry watched her stumble and his eyes darkened. He couldn't understand why seeing her like this troubled him. He kicked himself off the couch and walked over to where Mia was standing. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.

"Enough, I will take you back home."

However, just as he turned her around, he saw Mia's eyes glittering with tears that trickled down her eyes. She looked at him with a hint of disgust and hate in her eyes and sneered, "Don't touch me! You have no right to, at least not anymore!"

Even though she had divorced him, Mia held onto the hope that one day Henry would regain his memory and maybe—just maybe if he apologised for his actions properly, she would forgive him.

But after tonight, she didn't believe she would ever be able to forgive him.

Take her home? How was she supposed to trust her when her current predicament was due to him? What if he was to drag her along and dump her in the bed of a stranger?

She couldn't understand if Henry was like this to begin with or if his loss of memories changed him into a complete person. But no matter what, Mia no longer wanted to care.

She flung his hand off her wrist and snarled, "Keep your distance, Mister Holman, and just so you know. I am resigning."

After this, even looking at this face would sicken her to her core. He was so quick to take revenge on Jamie; if he had only investigated a little, which he could with his connections, then he would have known that her father never did anything to Jamie.

Her reports, her claims, and even her tears were lies.

A fragment of her twisted imagination that never even happened and yet she had to pay for them.

She gripped her hand, causing her nails to dig in her palms. This little bit of pain was nowhere enough to relieve the pain within her heart.

With the last bit of energy left in her body, she turned on her feet and walked away.

"I think I will help her to the parking lot." Ronald stood up from the couch and looked at the rest of his friends. He winked at them before turning to look at Henry.

He said to him, "If you take her home, then I am afraid that Jamie will overthink. I will go and drive home; don't worry, Henry. She will be safe with me."

Henry looked a bit perturbed but when he thought about how Jamie wouldn't like it if he was to get involved with Mia, he nodded and agreed, "You drive her home. I don't know why she is being so stubborn when she can't even handle driving at the moment."

Though Henry had forgotten everything, he was still used to worrying about Mia.

This feeling made him feel weirdly torn. Because his heart wanted to chase after Mia and drive her home, but at the same time his mind was refusing to listen to his heart.

And in between their wars, Henry could feel his head throbbing.

He sucked in a breath and remarked, "I think I will be heading back home. I don't feel good." However, before leaving, Henry turned to look at Ronald and said to him, "Make sure that you take her safely home. No matter what her father did, we shouldn't follow his actions to boot."

"Of course, Henry." Ronald crossed his fingers behind his back and swore, "Don't fret. I swear I will take Miss Wills back home safely; you are right, we shouldn't have done this."

Henry hummed as he said, "Let's go together. I will go back home and you take her home."

"Sure," Ron agreed as the two men walked out of the VIP room and headed to the elevator. They checked every floor before finding Mia on the ground floor. Ron swaggered outside and said to Henry, "You go on. Since Miss Wills is drunk, I don't know how hard of a job it would be to drag her back."

As he spoke, he walked over to Mia, who was trying to get to her car.

"Hey, there," he cooed upon coming to a stop three steps away from her.
