Mia wanted to argue with Taryn, but she silently swallowed her words back because she knew that there was no point in bothering to argue with Taryn or Aunt Sheila. She knew that she would never get to change their mind. In fact, even her father had to throw up his hands and walk away many times, as he could never win against Aunt Sheila when the two of them got into an argument.
There was a loud knock on the door.
"That will be my mom," Taryn told Mia. "I know that you don't feel like it, but she has been edgy since she heard me talk to Mister Holman. Let her fuss over you for the time being. It's how she shows that she cares, you know that."
Mia sighed helplessly. "You should have let your mother find out." Aunt Sheila was like a force of nature who couldn't be stopped once she started.
