Lucas snapped out of his memories. He raised his head and turned to look at Bree, who had come to stand beside him. "I never meant anything more than that." As Bree knew that there was a line that she couldn't cross, she could only make use of her position as Lucas's friend to stay close to him.
"Thank you for looking out for me, Bree." Lucas smiled at her, and Bree beamed, but a second later she heard him say, "But there is no need, honestly. I can take care of myself. So now, if you are done, can you go back?"
But how could Bree go back? She came here to take Lucas with her. Even if he didn't come to look for Mia, Bree knew that it must be a woman who caused Lucas to lose his bearings and act in such a hasty manner. This brought a sense of turmoil within her heart. She didn't wish to lose Lucas, not after the things that she had done for him.
