Once inside the room, Toronto's heart started racing uncontrollably. The scenes from just moments ago replayed in his mind over and over.
Toronto quietly asked Ford, "Earlier, when Reve mentioned your accelerated heartbeat, were you nervous?"
Ford shook his head and replied, "No, ever since you and Reve started talking, I've been forcing myself to think about some really unpleasant things. I wasn't nervous or excited at all."
Toronto, curious, asked, "What were you thinking about?"
Ford glanced at Toronto and answered, "I was thinking if maybe something's wrong with my intelligence…"
Toronto nearly burst out laughing. He tightened the muscles in his face, forcing himself not to show a smile, then shook his head with effort.
