In a second, my whole vibe shifted. A bright smile stretched across my face, fake concern thrown in for extra flavor. Everyone went still.
"The hell?" Kaminari squinted.
I chuckled. "I may be an ass, but I'm an ass who can act. This exam isn't just about saving people; it's about how we treat them. Put on your hero faces and let's roll."
No one questioned it. They knew the drill.
The siren blared again.
Smoke curled from the fake wreckage, debris scattered across the field like a warzone. The "victims" were already in place—some trapped under rubble, some limping, some screaming. The proctors weren't playing.
I clapped my hands, snapping everyone to attention. "Shoji, take a high spot. Call out movements, find priority cases. Jiro, listen for trapped victims under rubble. Yaoyorozu, get medical supplies ready. Ojiro, Todoroki, support the heavy-lifters. Uraraka, cut down weight where needed. Sero, Hagakure, Mineta—stealth team. Find and clear tight spaces. The rest of you, grab someone and move."
No one wasted time.
Shoji scaled a half-collapsed building, eyes flicking in every direction. "Four pinned under a bus. Two near the tower. Another group inside the eastern sector, possible fire hazard."
Jiro's jacks pulsed against the ground. "Crying from under the rubble near the left wing. Heartbeat's weak."
"Move fast," I said. "Bakugo, Kirishima, with me. Kaminari, stay on standby in case of electrical hazards."
Bakugo didn't argue. He already had an explosion ready to clear a path. Kirishima clenched his fists. "Got it."
We hit the bus first. Three people inside, one unconscious, the other two panicking. Shoji dropped down from his perch.
"On it," Todoroki muttered, ice creeping under the frame for support. Kirishima hardened his arms, gripping the side. "Count of three!"
"Three!" Bakugo blasted the front, weakening the structure. Kirishima lifted, metal groaning under the shift. Todoroki reinforced the frame, keeping it from caving in further.
I climbed in, checking the unconscious guy first. Breathing, but barely. "Yaoyorozu, get a mask here now!"
"Already on it!" She ran over, passing me a small oxygen mask.
"Mineta, get in here."
He hesitated. I glared. "Now."
He scrambled in, hands shaking. I shoved a small flashlight at him. "Check for head injuries. If his pupils don't react right, call it out."
Mineta nodded, doing the check. "Uh—his left eye's not responding."
"Concussion. Maybe worse," I said, checking the guy's breathing again. "Alright, Sato, guide the others out while we handle him. Izuku, find anyone with augmentation quirks and help set up a relief zone. Tsuyu, I need you here."
Sato started moving immediately, lifting one of the panicked victims while motioning for the other to follow. Izuku nodded and sprinted off, scanning the crowd for anyone who could reinforce a safe zone. Tsuyu hopped onto the wreckage without hesitation, crouching beside me.
"Ribbit. What do you need, Ryuu?"
"Check his pulse, double-check his airway. If he's out, we don't know if it's from trauma or lack of oxygen. If it's the second, we need to move fast."
She pressed her fingers to his neck, eyes narrowing. "It's weak, but stable."
Good. I turned to Yaoyorozu, who was already making a basic medical kit. I held out a hand. "Neck brace."
She formed one fast and passed it to me. "We need to keep him stabilized until we can move him safely."
I strapped the brace around his neck, then looked over my shoulder. "Shoji, status!"
Shoji's arms extended from the top of a broken building. "Still people trapped under rubble, some deeper in the east section. Another group needs water. Smoke's getting worse near the high-rise."
Jiro had an ear to the ground. "There's structural damage up ahead. We need to be careful where we move."
"Todoroki, handle the smoke problem," I said. "Mineta, you're on evac duty. Don't mess it up."
Mineta looked like he wanted to argue, but Uraraka grabbed him and pointed at a section of collapsed debris. "We need to clear this out."
Todoroki raised a hand, sending ice through the smokiest section of the battlefield. Ice spread along the ground, stabilizing part of the wreckage.
"Alright," I said, turning back to Tsuyu. "We're moving him."
She nodded, grabbing his legs while I took his upper half. We lifted carefully, keeping his neck supported as we maneuvered over the broken pavement. Sato reappeared, making sure the path ahead was clear.
Izuku came running back, two students from Shiketsu in tow. "These two have reinforcement quirks. They can help fortify the relief center."
One of them, a girl with short hair, glanced at me. "Where do you need us?"
"Get to the center, reinforce whatever structure they're setting up. Make it stable enough to hold at least twenty injured. If that center isn't stable in five minutes, we'll be triaging on concrete."
They ran off without another word.
Shoji called out again. "More trapped under a fallen truck!"
"Bakugo, Kirishima, clear it!"
Bakugo snarled but blasted forward. Kirishima followed, hardened arms gripping the wreckage as they lifted. The truck groaned under the weight, shifting just enough for Shoji to reach in and pull a kid out.
I turned to Mina and Jiro. "Jiro, check the path to the relief center. If it's not clear, Mina, melt any obstacles."
Jiro nodded and jabbed a jack into the ground, listening. "No movement under the rubble ahead."
Mina cracked her knuckles. "Good. I'll clear it." She flicked acid onto a collapsed sign blocking the way, melting through the metal.
Shoji's voice cut in. "Electric discharge. Kaminari, get here now."
Kaminari jogged over, looking around. "Where?"
Shoji pointed toward a wrecked bus with a live wire sparking near the frame. Kaminari clicked his tongue. "On it." He reached forward, sending a controlled jolt to short it out. "Should be safe now."
Bakugo blasted another chunk of debris away, nearly hitting Kaminari. "Move faster, dumbass."
"Hey, I'm working here!" Kaminari huffed, shaking off the residual static.
Uraraka pressed her fingers together, releasing her quirk. "More victims inside that building. Some are trapped on the upper floors."
Yaoyorozu was already forming climbing gear. "We need to move quickly. If the structure collapses, they won't have a chance."
Todoroki didn't wait. Ice crept up the side, forming a path. "Go."
Sero swung up first, grabbing onto the window ledge. "Two conscious, one unconscious." He turned to Ojiro. "Can you get the unconscious one down?"
Ojiro crouched, tail coiling. "Yeah." He launched up, swinging in through the broken frame. "Got him."
Yaoyorozu handed off a rope to Sero. "Secure them before lowering."
Todoroki reinforced the wall with ice as the others worked. Below, Shoji guided them down. Uraraka floated the injured with light touches, making the descent easier.
I turned, spotting another group struggling near a fallen billboard. Some of them weren't U.A. students. Shiketsu, Ketsubutsu—didn't matter. "Anyone got strength quirks?"
A girl from Ketsubutsu raised a hand. "Reinforcement quirk. You need something lifted?"
I pointed. "Billboard. Help Sato and Kirishima."
She ran over without argument. Sato cracked his knuckles, already activating his strength boost. Kirishima's arms hardened, and the three of them pushed. The metal groaned before finally shifting. Someone scrambled out from underneath. "Holy crap, I thought I was done for."
"Move to the safe zone," I said, turning back to the main group. "Who's handling first aid?"
A guy from Shiketsu spoke up. "We've got a med here."
"Good. Send them to the relief station."
As we moved to another zone, Inasa was already lifting rubble with his quirk, clearing the way for evac teams.
"Go assist him," I called. Todoroki stepped forward, but the moment Inasa saw him, his expression shifted. His whole stance went stiff, and his jaw clenched like he was chewing on a lemon.
I heard Aizawa mention before that Inasa had withdrawn from U.A. despite being the top recommended student, but I never got why. Right now, though, it looked like Todoroki had personally wronged him in another life.
Todoroki didn't react. Just kept moving like he hadn't noticed the tension. But Inasa did, and that was enough. The second Todoroki got close, Inasa whipped up a gust, nearly knocking him off balance.
Todoroki squared up immediately, fire flickering at his side. "What's your problem?"
"You," Inasa shot back.
Great. Another dick-measuring contest in the middle of a rescue.
[TARGET: Inasa Yoarashi
Quirk: Whirlwind– Generates powerful gales and localized pressure systems.
Strength: 112
Agility: 109
Intelligence: 82
Charisma: 38
Luck: 16
Traits:
Burns Hot, Blows Harder: Emotional surges increase Quirk output, but cloud judgment.
Hero Worship Fallout: Childhood idolization of a certain top-ranking hero ended in harsh disillusionment. Daddy didn't smile back. Now holds deep contempt for heroes who remind him of that failure.
Tunnel Eyes: Fixates on perceived hypocrites or "fake heroes"; will escalate if provoked, even mid-rescue.
Honor Before Everything: Measures others by their attitude, not their power. Respect must be earned, not inherited.]
I grabbed Todoroki's arm before things got worse. "Not the time." He exhaled and backed down, but Inasa wasn't letting it go.
I rolled my eyes, reached over, and yanked Mineta. "What—"
"Hairs."
Before Inasa could react, I pushed Mineta, who slapped two of his hairballs onto his wrists and stuck him to the ground.
"If you're not coolheaded, you're a hazard, not a hero," I said, throwing the little gremlin away.
He struggled, wind kicking up around him. "You can't just—"
"Shut up and listen."
Everyone nearby turned, but I didn't care. If this idiot wanted to act like a child in the middle of an emergency, then he was going to get treated like one.
"People aren't machines. Heroes aren't machines," I said. "Even the best have moods. Even the strongest get tired. People fight with blood and tears and they get worn down. If you think someone not smiling every second means they're a bad hero, you need to grow the hell up."
Inasa tensed.
"You don't have to like Endeavor. I sure as hell don't. He's a cunt. But he still saves lives." I gestured at Todoroki. "You don't have to look up to him either. But if you're going to pick fights during a rescue, you're the one failing here, not him. Endeavor's an asshole. We know that. But his son still shows up every day. That's hero shit."
Inasa didn't say anything, but he wasn't struggling anymore.
I sighed and peeled off the hairballs. "Go lift shit. That's what you're good at, right?"
He hesitated, then stormed off. Not happy, but at least working. Close enough.
I turned back to the others. "We're behind. Move."

Ryuu leans back.
Shirt half-unbuttoned.
Eyes glowing.
Plot unresolved.
"You read 74 chapters.
You knew what was coming.
And still…
no vote?"
He sips the wine.
Doesn't break eye contact.
The glass fogs from tension.
"Don't be shy.
Touch the button.
I touched your heart 74 times already."
Which character definitely has a burner phone and why?
