Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 Research

Saturday afternoon, Snape's office!

"Come on! Cast Expecto Patronum!" Snape commanded expressionlessly.

"Expecto Patronum," Light's happy memories were drawn out! With a wave of the wand, silver light dots fluttered and turned into an illusory image of a bird-shaped figure, dancing in the air!

"It didn't take solid form! Haven't you been practicing during this time?" There was dissatisfaction in Snape's tone!

"I've been studying the notes the professor gave me. It's a bit profound! I just barely finished learning it now. I haven't had much time to practice Spells!" Light sincerely asked for forgiveness!

Snape reluctantly agreed with Light's words. "Humph! Take it. Today's topic is to improve the potion recipe!" Snape threw a potion recipe to Light.

"Professor, I've only been studying with you for a little over a month. Isn't this a bit too soon?" Light scrabbled to catch the recipe.

"Oh! If you can't adjust the recipe on your own after studying with me for a month, then you might as well have learned in vain!" Snape looked at Light, who was looking at the recipe, with dissatisfaction.

"It's the original recipe of the 'Swell - Reduction Potion'! It has been greatly improved. Basically, the ones sold on the market now are the recipes with the addition of Moondew Grass to enhance the swelling - reducing effect."

"The professor still doesn't have much confidence in me!" Light wasn't as nervous after reading the recipe!

"Improving a recipe isn't simply an exhaustive attempt. I don't have that many materials for you to waste. You only have three chances." Snape said seriously to Light.

"I don't need three chances. I have a general idea already!" After saying that, Light started heating the cauldron and processing the raw materials.

Snape watched Light's skillful movements. A flash of approval crossed his eyes! Then he frowned again! 'Why is he doing this? What's the use of adding the spores of Sun Cap Mushroom?'

"Professor! I've finished!"

While Snape was still deducing Light's operations in his mind, he heard the sound indicating the potion was completed.

Snape put down the index finger that was pressing on his forehead and looked up at Light, who was holding a bottle of bubbling black potion.

"This is! What did you improve?" Snape took the potion and went to test it!

"I improved its taste and flavor! I reduced the medicinal effect to one percent, only leaving the stimulating and tingling sensations when you drink it!"

"So..." Snape stopped the hand that was doing the testing!

"That's right, this is a drink! I call it 'Fat Guy's Happy Water'. It will bring happiness to those who drink it!" Light showed a bright smile! And gave a thumbs up.

"Really..." After testing the potion, Snape, holding the bubbling black potion in his hand, was almost laughing from rage!

"Very good, you have great ideas! This reduces the difficulty of preparation to the minimum! The taste and flavor are also great! It's really not bad." Under Light's expectant gaze, Snape picked up the Happy Water, took a sip, and savored it for a while!

"However, this also means that the recipe can be easily imitated! And the value and profit of the potion are not proportional! It causes a great waste!" Snape put down the Happy Water in his hand and gave his evaluation.

"However, there is still value in further improvement! It's a very good finished product! Do you have any ideas for further improvement?" Perhaps worried about hitting Light, Snape rarely refrained from being sarcastic to Light.

"Probably. I plan to change the raw materials to ones that are cheap enough. Or make it into a high-concentration original pulp and dilute it with water later!" Light scratched his head and stated his idea.

"Not bad. There aren't many mistakes in the direction and thinking!"

Next, Snape began to Research with Light how to improve the recipe of Fat Guy's Happy Water.

From raw materials to methods, and then to more precise ratios!

"Thank you very much, Professor!" Light put away the notebook filled with various data.

"You can go back first. It's getting late!" Snape sat in the high-backed chair, rubbed his forehead with his right hand, looked at the sky outside and said to Light.

"Professor, actually I have another question! Can I ask you?" Light sat upright across from Snape with a serious face.

"What question? Go ahead!" Seeing Light so serious, Snape also sat up straight and looked back seriously.

"There is an idea described in the book you gave me. It is about connecting the soul and the body based on blood. When the soul and the body overlap, blood (life force) will be generated."

"Can I also understand that Magic Power is actually something generated from the overlap of the soul and something else?" Light took out the notebook filled with complicated patterns and handed it to Snape.

"So you've been Researching this all these days?" Snape picked up the notebook and studied it carefully.

Only the occasional sound of turning pages could be heard in the silent office.

"The birth of Magic Power is the overlap of the soul and spirit! Very good idea! It seems you've thoroughly understood the books I gave you!" Snape closed the notebook in his hand, placed it on the table, and tapped his right fingers, as if considering something.

After a long while, the sound of tapping on the table stopped. Then Snape raised his hands, with his fingers interlaced covering his mouth. He spoke his conclusion with utmost seriousness.

"Actually, I've also had this idea and conducted experiments, but all of them failed! No matter how much I continuously stimulated the minds of Muggles, I couldn't make them achieve Magical Awakening! Instead, I damaged the connection between the soul and the spirit, and all I got was a living corpse!"

"And I've also Researched many magical creatures. Their minds are extremely weak and can't be compared with those of wizards at all, but they still have Magic Power. Even in casting Spells or physically, they are superior to wizards."

Light looked at Snape, who was hidden in the darkness just like Commander Ikari (from Neon Genesis Evangelion). Listening to his plain words, he could smell the blood that couldn't be covered up no matter what.

"The ones you Researched should be only magical creatures, right?" Light slightly clenched his hand under the table and asked with a trembling voice.

"Sacrifices are necessary for experiments! And not just magical creatures are involved!" Snape slowly lowered his head. The hand that originally covered his mouth now pressed against his forehead.

"I see! Thank you very much!" After saying that, Light was about to get up and leave.

"Wait a minute. Take this too! Since you have this kind of thinking, this information will be helpful to you." Snape picked up his wand. With a flash of light, a thick stack of information appeared on the table.

"What is this... Thank you so much, Professor!" Light hesitated for a moment, then reached out and hugged the information in his arms!

"Alright, go back!"

"It's too late!" Snape stood up, wand in hand, his voice tinged with a hint of exhaustion.

"Okay, I'll head back first. Good night, Professor!" Light bowed to Snape and then turned to leave the office.

Snape stood in the office, his dark, piercing eyes following Light as he left.

The moonlight outside the castle streamed through the window, falling on Light and stretching his shadow out long.

Walking along the path, Light looked down at the Research materials in his arms, which were the result of countless lives, and said with a wry smile, "I guess I've inherited all of Snape's legacies!"
