Chapter 39 - Chapter 39 - When the Bloodstained Mist Arrives

A "Speechless" Breakfast at Kakashi's House

A peaceful morning at Hatake Kakashi's house.

That is, if you ignored the continuous "chomp chomp" sounds echoing from the dining table, accompanied by the sight of a certain someone mercilessly annihilating a mountain of boiled meat as if they had been starving for ten days straight.

Three kids—Kakashi, Obito, and Gai—stared in disbelief at the spectacle before them.

Next to Satoru was a towering stack of empty bowls and plates, yet there was still no sign of him stopping.

Obito gulped and instinctively took a few steps back.

"Sensei… Every time I watch you eat, I can't shake the feeling that… you're not human, but some other species disguising itself as one."

He immediately raised his hands to shield his head, anticipating a smack.

Fortunately for him, Satoru was too busy waging war against the last piece of meat to pay attention to his comment.

Kakashi, however, remained silent, sitting in the corner with narrowed eyes, deep in thought.

He had been observing Satoru's eating habits for the past month, and every single day, the same question plagued his mind.

"Where does all that food go!?"

No matter how much he ate, Satoru's body remained lean, toned, and—to Kakashi's bewilderment—even seemed to be getting taller.

A bold thought crossed Kakashi's mind.

"Should I try eating like Sensei?"

However, the very next second, he dismissed the idea entirely.

"No, that definitely won't work!"

Gai, on the other hand, was watching Satoru with fascination, as if observing a rare, unknown life form.

The breakfast concluded with the three kids in complete shock, while Satoru stretched and let out a satisfied burp.

"Ahh! A perfectly balanced breakfast!"

The three students twitched their brows in exasperation.

**On the Way to the Academy**

As they walked along the familiar path to the Ninja Academy, the three disciples were unusually silent.

Suddenly, Obito squinted at Satoru, then nudged Gai and Kakashi.

"Hey, have you guys noticed something?"

Gai nodded vigorously.

"I thought so too! Sensei looks…"

Kakashi, with his sharp eyes, finished the sentence in a cold tone.

"Sensei has grown taller."

The three of them fell into deep thought, tilting their heads in contemplation.

"When we first met him, Sensei was around 170 cm…"

"It's been nearly a month, and now he's probably 175 cm."

Obito crossed his arms and nodded sagely.

"What if… Sensei has been secretly taking growth hormones meant for farm pigs?"

Kakashi remained silent for a moment, before murmuring.

"No way… but at this rate, could it be that… one day, Sensei will grow up to 3 meters tall?"

Gai gasped.

"I don't know, but… should we report this to the Hokage?"

The three kids stood still, staring blankly ahead.

Their young minds imagined a future where Satoru towered over Konoha like a colossal beast, rubbing his head against the Hokage Monument like an oversized house cat.

Walking ahead, Satoru overheard their absurd conversation, veins bulging on his forehead.

"Damn it, can these brats stop jinxing me!?"

The more he thought about it, the more uneasy he became.

"At this rate, will I end up turning into some 3-meter-tall freak like Whitebeard? Or worse… like Blackbeard!?"

He shuddered.

"No! I won't let that happen! If necessary… I'll go on a diet!"

Shaking his head frantically, he tried to erase the terrifying thought from his mind.

**A Summon from the Hokage**

Upon arriving at the Academy, Satoru received an urgent notice from the principal's office—Hokage-sama had summoned all faculty members for a meeting.

He raised an eyebrow.

"What could be this serious?"

Stepping into the meeting room, he found most of the other teachers already present.

The atmosphere was lively.

"Satoru-sensei! Over here!"

Isamu Ikeya, the hopeless romantic among the teachers, waved him over.

Beside him were Kimura Sugito, who always maintained a calm demeanor, and Aya Ueda, the ever-elegant and sharp-witted female teacher.

"You seem pretty energetic this morning," Kimura remarked with a smile.

"Of course, I had a well-balanced breakfast."

Satoru replied, then glanced toward Ayane, who was engaged in a conversation across the room.

As if sensing his gaze, she turned slightly, locking eyes with him.

Satoru froze, then quickly averted his eyes, feigning a cough.

"Ahem… The weather's nice today, isn't it?"

The three teachers: "…"

Before anyone could tease him further, the door to the meeting room swung open.

Hiruzen Sarutobi entered, his ever-present pipe releasing faint wisps of smoke.

The room fell silent instantly.

The Hokage sat down, clasping his hands together as his sharp gaze swept across the gathered teachers.

"I have an important announcement."

He paused for a moment before continuing.

"In the coming week, the Konoha Ninja Academy will host a group of exchange students from the Hidden Mist Village."

The room buzzed with murmurs.

Satoru furrowed his brow.

"The Hidden Mist?"

Kimura's tone darkened.

"Isn't that place currently in a state of civil unrest?"

Hokage tapped his fingers lightly on the table, his expression grave.

"The situation in the Hidden Mist, as you all know, is extremely unstable. Their current leader, Fourth Mizukage Yagura Karatachi, is an extremist."

"A new generation of shinobi is being forged under his iron rule."

"The students being sent here are not ordinary students. They are warriors raised in blood, trained from childhood to survive. I'm sure many of you have heard of the brutal system within their Ninja Academy."

Satoru felt a chill run down his spine.

Children raised in a world of death…

The Hokage reached for a stack of documents and placed them on the table.

"Their escort will be Kushimaru Kuriarare, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, infamous for his… unique hobby of threading his victims like beads."

The atmosphere in the room grew even heavier.

Renji furrowed his brows as he took a set of files and began distributing them to the teachers.

Satoru received his copy and flipped it open.

With just a glance, he knew the upcoming week would be anything but peaceful.

As the meeting adjourned, everyone left with a sense of unease hanging over them.

Satoru let out a long sigh.

"It's barely morning, and we're already dealing with something like this… Konoha is never boring, huh?"
