Chapter 14: The Threat
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he stared at the text message on his phone. Who was this? And how did they know about Roman?
He felt a surge of anger and protectiveness towards Roman. No one threatened his family and got away with it.
Ethan quickly typed out a response, his fingers flying across the keyboard. "Who is this?" he demanded.
But as he waited for a response, Ethan's mind was already racing with possibilities. Was this a rival family trying to intimidate him? Or was it something more personal?
Just then, his phone buzzed again. "You'll never be able to protect Roman," the message read. "We'll always be one step ahead."
Ethan's anger boiled over. He quickly dialed a number, his eyes scanning the surrounding area for any signs of danger.
"Hawk, what's going on?" his lieutenant asked, answering on the first ring.
"We've got a problem," Ethan said, his voice low and even. "Someone's threatening Roman."
There was a pause on the other end of the line. "What do you need me to do?" his lieutenant asked finally.
Ethan's eyes narrowed. "I need you to find out who's behind this. And I need you to do it now."
His lieutenant nodded, even though Ethan couldn't see him. "Consider it done, Hawk."
As Ethan hung up the phone, he felt a sense of determination wash over him. He would do whatever it took to keep Roman safe.
But as he turned to get into his car, Ethan noticed something that made his heart skip a beat. A piece of paper on the windshield, with a message scrawled in red ink.
"You'll never win."
Ethan's eyes scanned the surrounding area, but there was no one in sight. He felt a shiver run down his spine as he realized that whoever was behind this was always one step ahead.
But Ethan refused to back down. He crumpled the paper in his hand, his eyes blazing with determination.
Bring it on, he thought.
As he got into his car and drove away, Ethan knew that he was in for the fight of his life. But he was ready.
He would do whatever it took to protect Roman, no matter the cost.
And as he drove, Ethan's mind was already racing with plans. He would increase security, make sure Roman was always protected.
But as he pulled up to the mansion, Ethan's heart sank. Roman was standing outside, his eyes wide with fear.
"What's wrong?" Ethan asked, jumping out of the car.
Roman's eyes locked onto Ethan's. "I got a message," he said, his voice trembling. "It said...it said they're going to hurt me."
Ethan's anger boiled over. He quickly pulled Roman into his arms, holding him tight.
"I won't let anyone hurt you," Ethan whispered into Roman's ear. "I promise."
But as he held Roman, Ethan knew that this was far from over. Whoever was behind this was still out there, waiting for their next move.
And Ethan was determined to find out who they were, and put a stop to it once and for all.
