Chapter 3 - Training

The wind blew across the riverbank, rustling beneath the worn-out bridge.

Tetsuo stood face-to-face with Denki Kaminari.

"Alright, kid," Kaminari said, rolling his shoulders as he leaned against one of the bridge's pillars. "Tell me everything about your quirk. And I mean everything you are capable of "

Kaminari stood there waiting for Tetsuo to begin his explanation, he had known this kid for a decade now, but this wasn't something to be taken lightly and, he needed every bit of info about his capabilities.

Tetsuo took a deep breath. He had never broken his quirk down in such a detailed way before.

"It's called Electrical Surge," he started. "My body generates bioelectricity, and I can use it to enhance my strength, speed, and reflexes beyond normal human limits. I can also manipulate external electricity, draw power from sources around me, and control static fields to a small extent."

Kaminari nodded as he listened, his sharp eyes analyzing every word despite his relaxed posture. He wasn't just a former pro hero—he was a veteran. He had survived the war, and seen things that most people couldn't even imagine. He wasn't some high schooler anymore.

"Alright," Kaminari said after a moment. "That's solid. You've got raw power, speed, and external control. But every quirk—no matter how strong—has its drawbacks. Trust me kid I know a thing or two when it comes about quirks."

Tetsuo felt a pang of hesitation but nodded. He knew his weaknesses.

"First issue—bioelectricity is limited." Kaminari raised a finger. "Your body is your main power source, but you can't just keep using electricity endlessly, right?"

Tetsuo sighed. "Yeah. If I go overboard, I burn out. My muscles seize up, and sometimes I black out completely."

"Exactly." Kaminari grinned. "Your body is like a battery—it can only store so much before it needs to recharge. Overuse means paralysis or unconsciousness. That's bad news in a real fight."

He remembers all the times he had his brain fried while using his quirk.

Tetsuo clenched his fists. He had learned that lesson the hard way before.

"Second issue—insulation." Kaminari continued. "Rubber, ceramics, and other non-conductive materials weaken your external electricity attacks. If you fight someone with good insulation, you're gonna have a rough time."

Tetsuo frowned. That was something he hadn't fully considered before.

"And third—you rely on the environment." Kaminari pointed towards the power lines in the distance. "Sure, you can drain electricity from outside sources, but what happens if you're in the middle of nowhere? Or worse, an opponent grounds your electricity?"

Tetsuo remained silent. He had no answer for that.

He knew each and everything that Denki had said had come from personal experience and years of practice.

He looked at Denki noticing the atmosphere getting a bit tense.

Kaminari's smirk faded slightly. "Kid, listen. After the war, quirks started evolving at a crazy rate. The newer generation? Their quirks make mine look like a cheap knockoff."

Tetsuo looked up at him, confused. "But… you were one of the best."

Kaminari chuckled.

"I had to be. My quirk was strong, sure—but these new kids? Their quirks are on a whole other level in terms of versatility and sheer power."

He paused, his voice becoming more serious. "But you know what they don't have?"

Tetsuo stared at him. Kaminari's usual goofy demeanor was gone.

In its place was something harder—something forged through battle and survival.

"Experience,"

Kaminari said, eyes turning a bit dark. "I fought in the war. I saw what villains can do. I saw death up close. The new generation has all these crazy quirks, but they don't know what it's like to fight for their life. To stand on the battlefield and have only seconds to make a decision between life and death."

Tetsuo swallowed.

"That's why I'm training you," Kaminari continued. "Not just to make your quirk stronger—but to make you stronger."

A spark of electricity crackled in Kaminari's fingertips.

"Three months, kid. That's all I need to turn you into something dangerous."

Tetsuo clenched his fists. Three months to sharpen himself into something more.

He grinned. "Alright, sensei. Let's get started."

and the training started

BAM!

Tetsuo barely dodged as Kaminari's electrified fist shot past his face, the crackling energy humming in the air.

"You're fast, but speed means nothing if you can't think on your feet!" Kaminari barked.

Tetsuo ducked under another strike, sliding across the floor, sparks flaring from his fingertips. He lunged—only for Kaminari to sidestep and sweep his legs.

"Again."

Sometime later...

Kaminari dropped a metal rod in front of Tetsuo.

"Electricity won't save you if your opponent knows how to counter it." He held up a rubber-insulated glove. "So, what do you do?"

Tetsuo thought for a moment, then grabbed the rod. Instead of shocking it, he swung it like a club—conducting his electricity through the weapon itself.

Kaminari smirked. "Now you're thinking."

Tetsuo's body crackled with unstable energy—too much output, too fast.

"You're wasting charge, kid!" Kaminari yelled. "Small bursts. Think precision, not power."

Tetsuo exhaled and focused. Instead of an uncontrolled surge, he released a quick pulse—just enough to send a controlled jolt into a training dummy.

"Good. Now do it ten more times without frying yourself."

Kaminari Smirked.

Tetsuo sprinted barefoot across a rocky terrain, friction generating static in his body. Kaminari tossed a metal disc into the dirt.

"No electricity around? Then make your own. Even your own movement can create a charge."

Tetsuo slid, dragging his hand across the ground. A spark ignited in his palm—just enough for a counterattack.

"You're getting it."

To say the training was brutal would be an understatement Sensei pushed each and every fiber of me to the absolute limit but It was all worth it I was stronger than I have ever been, but it wasn't always training

At the dinner table, Tetsuo sat next to Hana, helping her with her food. The little girl giggled, "Tetsuo-nii, eat more veggies!"

"Yeah, yeah, kid, don't boss me around." He ruffled her hair playfully.

Jirou leaned in with a smirk. "Both of you, eat faster. Kaminari's dumb training is gonna kill you otherwise."

"Oi, rude!" Kaminari protested, mouth full of food.

Later at night, Tetsuo and Hana played chess, with her utterly destroying him.

"You're letting her win, right?" Jirou asked.

"Tch, no! She's just really good!" Tetsuo groaned, moving his king into check.

Hana grinned. "Checkmate!

BZZ!

Tetsuo's phone buzzed in his pocket, he took a look at who was calling him.

"I have to take this" Tetsuo rushed outside.

Tetsuo sat on the balcony, staring at his phone. His thumb hovered over the call button.

He barely spoke to his father these days.

Finally, he picked up.

"Tetsuo?" His father's voice was distant, almost indifferent.

"Hey. Just… wanted to talk."

A long pause.

"You… need something?" Tetsuo asked almost annoyed

Tetsuo clenched his jaw.

"No."

" Just… forget it."

He ended the call before his father could say anything else.

He sighed to himself.

" Why does he care now?"
