Kort jotted down everything she was told by Ms. Gunday. She was in disbelief that Officer K was involved in the case. Ms. Gunday's story made her understand why Officer K was rushing to close the case. She also remembered Splendor telling her that Officer K's name appeared on Mr. Mann call list. For sure, Officer K was involved somehow. It was an undeniable fact. She promised me that she was going to try her best to make Officer K answer for everything she was told.
After that, she asked me about Leticia. I told her everything the doctor told me, including giving him my samples for DNA extraction. When she heard about the DNA samples, she became more interested in knowing more. I enlightened her that I also needed to know who impregnated Leticia. She told me I was supposed to consult my dad before doing that. I asked her the reasons but she didn't tell me. She said my dad was going to explain everything to me. At that instant, she told me we were going to the lab to steal the samples without Splendor's knowledge. I questioned her interests. Again, she didn't entertain my questions. She told me to trust her.
We left Buskers at around past eight at night. She made sure we were going first to the lab for the samples, thereafter head to Mr. Kenneth's house where Officer K was going to answer everything. Ms. Gunday took a taxi going back to her house. Kort thanked her for her cooperation. In the lab, we found Splendor still awake, busy reading his books while his tables were in disarray with the lab apparatus. He told us he was trying to find the DNA results of the fetuses in Leticia's womb. Those fetuses weren't normal. Splendor believed they caused Leticia's low blood level and malnutrition. Even in sight, there was no more Leticia. The pretty face had disappeared to her jaws and the attracting figures she had vanished. Something was supposed to be done.
"Kort, last time you were here, you were tensed about the devils," he said.
"More than ever, Splendor. I didn't know such were not tales after-all… " she muttered softly and said, "However, I have a question. May I ask?"
"For me… shoot louder, Kort. If it's about the devils, I will be happy," he said.
"About the devils… lets pause for now. I don't want to disturb my mood. I want to know about Marcos. His shoes, where are they?" she asked.
"Oh Kort, try to be serious for once, at least. What will that help you with? Come on, the case is closed. You are the one who closed it," he laughed. Kort's facial expression made him stop laughing, and he reasoned with her, "Luckily when his relatives took his remains, they left his shoes."
He talked, opening the drawers, and getting the shoes. Kort smiled and headed to receive them from him. I didn't understand why her facial expression sternly changed when Splendor was opening the drawers. However, I realised she took that opportunity to steal the samples so that Splendor wasn't going to carry on with his experiments. She hid the samples in her jacket as she received the shoes from Splendor. Thereafter, she told Splendor we were leaving, but he told me to go feed Leticia before going. Kort told him we were in a hurry. He understood and said her parents were soon going to visit her as usual. I only went for a few minutes to be with Leticia. Thereafter, we prepared to go.
We were going straight to Mr. Kenneth's house, just as Kort said. However, before we could exit the lab, Splendor screamed, throwing his apparatus on the floor. We asked him the problem, and he told us that the results for the samples he took from the fetuses were inconclusive. We laughed at him. He was supposed to get used to it. It was science, and it never happened on the first trial, but on the hundredth. Kort told him to try again, but he told us he had tried several times. However, he didn't give up on doing it again, so we left him starting over. We believed he wouldn't sleep that night.
Kort and I went straight to Mr. Kenneth's house. The house was full of people dancing and drinking. It was a party. We intruded. Kort went straight to the power supply and switched off the music. People in frustration yelled, asking who switched off the music. She raised up her badged in air and introduced herself.
"I see, you're all drinking to not see the sunset. Is this true, Mr. Kenneth?" she asked and added, "What are we celebrating here?"
"Kort! You wouldn't surprise me by your presence here. What bothers you?" Officer K screamed, coming downstairs, meticulously stepping down the stairs, "Why like being the trouble to yourself? Put work aside, find a man, drink to death, and give yourself to pleasures."
"The pleasures you say… well, know I am not vexed by your words. I am a high decorated officer because of my hard work, not of the things you mention," she said.
He nodded his head and asked what brought us into the house while it was that late and disturbed the party. Kort told him we were there to arrest Mr. Kenneth for killing Marcos. He mocked and told her she was an idiot. He mentioned that the case was closed, and the killer was Chris. Kort shocked him as she said arresting Chris was her plan to get the killer. She told him whatever she knew as Ms. Gunday had told her. Officer K couldn't believe it. He had underestimated her. She even mentioned the last dialed call on Mr. Mann's phone. With that, Officer K was mute, waiting for Kort to do the procedure. Kort took her time. Mr. Kenneth exploded, screaming Ms. Gunday's name, saying that everything was a lie. Kort smiled and arrested him that night.
