Chris' rearrests was proof that he was the devil. Others who saw things differently believed the devil was still free, wandering across the streets. It was a matter of how you think the devil looked. Some people expected to see an enormous beast with horns, which breathed fire. To Kort, the situation was already out of hand. It was a matter of time before giving up. My dad had called her to be Chris' angel, but she ended up failing.
In the lab, Leticia was in pain. Splendor said the infants were growing at a higher rate than expected, and they depended on Leticia's tiny body for food. He suggested an abortion as an ideal plan for Leticia to avoid life-threatening situations, but it was impossible. Abortion was an unlawful act in the city.
The days passed, and nothing changed about Leticia. We and parents were continuously visiting her. Splendor then made the lab his home. He spent most of his nights tending to Leticia and reading the book about the devils. Nothing drove him more than revenge. His mother had told him that the devils had killed his father, so he chose medicine, knowing it was the only way that would arm him with abilities to trace the devils. From his book, the devils were just humans, possessed by the evil spirits, and they possessed magic. They were traceable by DNA. So he was ready to give it all that he had for revenge.
Chris felt like an orphan in prison. My dad failed to make a plan for him. However, Kort promised to free him again. She was stubborn. She behaved as if they shared a bond with Chris while there was none. Even Chris' mother didn't show up for him. She left Chris when he was just a boy and went in the far lands. I doubted Chris even remembered her.
While people believed Chris was a devil. Jeff, Triana, Renata, and I remained in hopes for his freedom. He was not the devil. We tried all the means to support him, but nothing helped. Veronica and Mariana separated from us. They wished Chris to suffer even more. Mariana didn't care about her sister's pain. The last thing that came to my mind was to approach Ms. Gunday and question her about the necklace. It was possible that there was something that was going to contribute to freeing Chris.
The schools and colleges closed, and only the drugs were pouring in the streets. The police failed to catch the drug baron, and the mayor was even afraid to walk in the streets because people were turning against him. I don't want to talk about the youth; they were consumed by the angel dust. Moreover, bad things were happening in the city; abuse cases increased, murder cases level up, and unwanted pregnancies shattered the youth. People started to think the city was cursed because chaos was ruining everything. They started to move to Rockline City, but it didn't take time before the city was under lockdown.
When I questioned Ms. Gunday, she shed tears. She knew the necklace belonged to Marcos. I kept quiet for her to explain herself and say everything to me. Before coming to Skyling College, she had an affair with Mr. Kenneth. That summed up to the way they behaved when they met at Kentha Hotel during my writing competitions. However, their affair was a whirlwind. She said Mr. Kenneth was abusive, so she planned to leave him, but he was still in love with her, so he didn't agree to separate. But strangely, on top of that, he introduced Marcos Mann to her and ordered her to be submissive to him. She didn't understand the kind of deal they were playing. Mr. Kenneth threatened to kill her if she was not submissive to Marcos. In fear of her life, she did as he wanted, and they shared her. The two were working together, although Ms. Gunday didn't know the job that strengthened their friendship.
After the writing competitions, Mr. Kenneth himself commanded Ms. Gunday not to agree again to be shared. It was clear he was in disagreement with Marcos. While she was in her home, Mr. Kenneth's brother visited and told her not to tell anyone about Mr. Kenneth's and Marcos' actions and their friendship. In my mind, the brothers killed Marcos, maybe because of the misunderstandings about whatever Mr. Kenneth and Marcos were doing.
Ms. Gunday broke in tears when telling me her story. She faced a lot, and I wondered how she was hiding my affair with her from Mr. Kenneth and Marcos. I assumed they knew my secret. She told me that Mr. Kenneth's brother was Officer K. I got so shocked and saw the situation changing. It was impossible for me to keep that to myself. Kort was supposed to know. She agreed with me to share whatever she told me with Kort.
Before going to see Kort, Splendor called me to his lab. I went there running, thinking something was wrong with Leticia. But there was nothing. He only wanted my samples so that he was going to find the real person who impregnated Leticia between Chris and me. He already had Chris' samples, which he physically went to take from him in the prison. After he took my samples, I ran to meet up with Kort at Buskers, where Ms. Gunday joined us and spoke everything to Kort.
