History

Long ago, two races ruled over Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS.

Both lived in harmony, but suddenly a war broke out between them, a conflict that would allow the victor hold the fate of the other in thier hands.

This is one the of the few confirmed history texts of the war, a story—one of tragedy, perseverance, and the hope of breaking a cycle bound by Determination.

The Ancient War

The origins of the war between humans and monsters remain unkown however , it was known thatone of the main reasons for it, was humans, fearing the power of monsters, sought to destroy them. Though monsters possessed powerful magic, they were inherently weaker than humans,-there where however unique situations in which an abnormally more powerfull one would appear-Monsters were creatures of SOUL and essence, while humans had strong, physical forms that gave them the upper hand in battle.

One of the key reasons for human victory was the nature of human SOULs. A monster's SOUL is soft and ephemeral, easily shattered upon death, while a human's SOUL, though weaker in magic, is strong and persistent. Humans could kill monsters, and their SOULs would vanish, preventing any revival or afterlife.

In the end, humans triumphed, forcing the monsters into exile beneath the Earth. A powerful group of sorcerers and magic casters-seven in total, sealed them away using a barrier—one that only a human SOUL or an equivalent power could go through or break.

With no way to escape, the monsters had no choice but to build a new civilization in the Underground tomb they were locked away in.

The first king of monsters after the war was Asgore Dreemurr , ruling alongside his wife, Toriel,a goat monster along with her husband. Together, they created a city known as New Home, built away from the ruins of the original capital, now known as the Ruins. Monsters adapted to life underground, but they longed for freedom.

Despite their imprisonment, they maintained hope. Monsters, by nature, are kind-hearted beings, but they also feared another war. They understood that humans would not allow them to return to the surface, and without a human SOUL, the barrier remained unbreakable.

Years later,King Asgore and Toriel had a son, Asriel Dreemurr, bringing joy to the Underground. Their kingdom regained thier lost hope, and while monsters still wished for freedom, they did not yet turn to violence.

But then, the unexpected happened.

A human was found.

One day, a human child fell into the Underground. This child was Chara, the first human to arrive since the war. The monsters, though initially afraid, accepted them. Chara was adopted by the royal family, growing close to Asriel and earning the respect of the monster kingdom.

However, Chara harbored hatred toward humanity. Unlike the monsters, who had forgiven humans despite their suffering, Chara despised any and all humans, this only increased when they learned of the reason their new famaliy could not see the sun. They convinced Asriel to help them with a plan they made—one that would break the barrier and allow monsters to reclaim the surface, and let them see the sun.

Chara poisoned themselves by eating regular buttercup flowers, allowing Asriel to absorb their dying SOUL. In doing so, Asriel became one of the first documanted human-monster hybrid,a powerfull being capable of going through the barrier. He carried Chara's body to the surface, intending to fulfill their plan.

But when Asriel reached the surface, humans attacked him, mistaking him for as the killer of the child he held in his arms. Asriel, unwilling to fightand hurt the humans, fled back to the Underground, mortally wounded. He made it home but died in the arms of his farther within the garden, his dust scattering across the golden flowers.

The loss of his son broke Asgore. Overcome with grief and rage, he declared war on humanity. He decreed that any human who fell into the Underground must die, and their SOULs would be collected to break the barrier by force.

Toriel, heartbroken by his decision and the lost of both her children, left New Home, retreating to the Ruins to care for any fallen children who might arrive in the future.

From that point forward, any human who fell into the Underground was killed, either by Asgore himself or by the Royal Guard, once loved protacters now turned exacutioners. Their SOULs were collected, stored in the castle.

Asgore needed seven human SOULs to break the barrier. He had gathered six over the years, last bieng the yellow SOUL of Justice ,being handed to him by a trio of monsters. However years passed and no more humans had fallen. The king waited in silence his guilt abd grief slowly burdening him, his HOPE once the highest in recorded history rapidly droped to stagaringly low amounts, and the kingdom held thier breath uncertain. Some monsters, embraced the idea of fighting humans, while others, were reluctant.

The Underground, once filled with hope for a better future fell silent as they waited.
