Chapter 3 - Overclocked

Project: Era Secret Base

Narrator POV

Bodies dropped all over the floor, with pools of blood dripping off of them. A sudden thump on the floor startled the remaining soldiers that were alive.

A black figure dropped from the ceiling, carrying a dead body in his hand, dripping with blood, creating a pool of red liquid on the floor. A soldier suddenly switches on his flashlight, creating a ray of bright light, shining right at the figure.

The guards peek at his shiny yellow hair, with his bright blue eyes, shining with the light. It was Arthur Knight. His face looked angry like he was ready to kill every single person in the same room as him. Suddenly, they hear a laugh, not a regular one, but a calm and relaxing one.

"Hahaha," his tone changes from happy to quiet and serious. "Is this all you guys got? I was expecting more from you guys!" He joyfully throws the body in his hand, slamming it against the wall, and spitting out blood all over the soldiers, drenching them with blood.

The soldiers quickly aimed their guns at him, getting ready to fire. The base was any second away from being blown up from all the previous gunshots fired. Electricity cackled on the ceiling wires, creating sparks of lighting. Then quickly, the soldiers shot their guns at Arthur, creating a massive spray of bullets everywhere. Surely he was dead right? The soldiers planned to fire at him by surprise, fast enough to match the speed of sound itself. Debris of smoke formed around the impact from all the shots fired, but Arthur was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, one of the soldiers yelled, disappearing in the process. After a blink of time, all four of the remaining soldiers got slashed in a second.

"Wow, how interesting," a voice, projecting behind the shadows. Arthur heard the voice, but he couldn't tell where it was coming from. In confusion, he looked around, turning 360 degrees, checking in all angles, but still no sight of the voice. Suddenly, he quickly twitched his body, dodging a tiny dagger, and catching it midair.

In a deep voice, "You'll have you be faster than that to catch me," Arthur chuckles, inspecting the dagger that was thrown at him. After looking at the dagger for a few seconds, he suddenly pointed the dagger in a direction, aiming it towards something. From his view, it looked like he was aiming at darkness, but when you look closer, you can see the ominous shadow, lurking in the dark.

"Ahh man, was I that too predictable... Arthur"

"Too predictable... Cyrus," they both laughed.

Cyrus walked out of the shadows, jumping from above the ledge he was standing on.

He walked out with his signature yellow colored with a blue trimmed robe, his gray colored silky hair, and his shiny yellow eyes, piercing through the darkness. Every time he takes a step, the robe lifts off the ground, creating a short breeze, almost making an afterimage of a yellow-hued aura.

"So Cyrus, you joined this so-called Project: Era, after you got defeated by me in the admission test... pathetic." Arthur laughed with embarrassment, peeking at Cyrus while he did so.

Cyrus took a step back and turned around, loading a dagger into his fist. He swiftly turned back into position, moved his right leg back, and threw the dagger he hid at great speeds, faster than last time. Even still with that speed, Arthur managed to catch the dagger, with just two fingers, and suddenly threw it back at Cyrus, making him get pinned on the wall, with the dagger stuck between his robe and the metal wall, just missing his shoulder.

Cyrus banged his head against the metal wall, causing him to bleed on the back of his head, leaving a trail of blood, seeping against the wall.

Arthur leaned forward, with his hands in his pocket, his face tensed and stiff...

"Admit it, Cyrus, you'll never be stronger than me. However much work you put in, I'll do more. Do you really think I wouldn't improve from the last time we met? You disgust me, Cyrus."

Cyrus pulls out the dagger that was sticking him to the wall, facing his head down. He started laughing, laughing like a maniac. He lifted his head in the process, laughing until he ran out of breath. His eyes glowed, giving him a menacing and scary look to his face.

"Yeah, you're right Arthur, I'll never be as good as your little goodie-two-shoes, but that gives me confidence, that under all that luxury and fame of yours, is just a little weakling, who'll get his feelings hurt if one little thing goes wrong for him."

"So Arthur, did you think I wouldn't improve from the last time we met?" Cyrus chuckled, knowing he had just broken Arthur's dignity.

Cyrus placed two of his daggers in his hands, spinning both of them around his finger, waiting for Arthur to recover.

"Alright then, shall we start!!" Arthur had a big smirk on his face, rubbing his hands on one another to clean up the blood on his hands.

Cyrus charged up all his strength in his legs, and rapidly hurdles straight to Arthur, facing his daggers straight at him. But somehow, Arthur managed to predict this move and placed both his hands on Cyrus's back and launched himself towards the ceiling, hanging on one of the pipes on the top.

Arthur quickly swung back and forth, gaining momentum, and kicked Cyrus right in the face using both his legs.

Cyrus got sent flying backward but managed to save himself by kicking off the wall, ricocheting him to Arthur. Cyrus got a firm grip on Arthur by his legs, knocking both of them to the ground. Cyrus landed on Arthur, giving him an advantage over the first attack. Cyrus started punching Arthur in the face, punch by punch, causing Arthur's face to turn red caused by all the blood.

The punches kept coming, and Cyrus was filled with rage on the past incidents with Arthur. Finally, Arthur caught one of Cyrus's punches, filling the room with silence, and giving Arthur a chance to breathe.

He coughed blood, regaining his energy and breath. Cyrus still had a good grip on Arthur, but he was in shock at how Arthur caught his punch.

"Cyrus that's enough... It's time for me to end this." He quietly whispered, slowly shifting his weight to escape the hold on Cyrus.

Arthur jumped away from Cyrus, gaining distance between the two. Arthur started stretching, cracking his bones, hearing the pops of them.

"Ahhh, that feels much better, now I won't hold back and show you the true power of foresight."

"Foresight!! What new powers did he unlock!" Cyrus's expression showed everything, he didn't know what was about to come.

Arthur pulled out what seemed to be a blue card, with hexagonal patterns. It started glowing, with a pulsing light.

Arthur puts his head down, seeming like he was getting ready for something...

"Overlock, lend me your Aether," he silently calls a name.

Arthur's eyes start glowing, his core pulsing with energy. The card starts glowing, forming into a massive hammer. Arthur's expression turns into a serious face into a smile.

"Fuck!" Cyrus yells with anger, suddenly laughing from the adrenaline his body is flowing with.

"Did you forget Arthur, I also have a secret weapon up my sleeves!" Cyrus pulls out a similar card to Arthur's, quickly forming into sharp dual blades, connected with shackles.

At the same time, they both launch themselves toward each other, colliding with each others weapon, creating sparks.

The sparks intensified, as they pushed harder at one another. They both yelled, giving it all their energy... then suddenly, Cyrus tried side swiping Arthur with his legs, but Arthur used his power of foresight to see this move, quickly countering it with a kick of his own, causing both of them to neutralize the force. Then, Arthur caught Cyrus off guard, using his hammer to push down Cyrus's blades, leaving him wide open for an attack.

Arthur picked up his hammer, going for a facial attack, but then...

"Scatter!!!"

Cyrus reached for something inside his robe, grabbing a bundle of sharp needle like pins, scattering them all over Arthur's face.

"You dirty punk!" Arthur yelled, smiling while wiping all the needles stuck in his face. While Arthur opened his eyes back up, he saw the bright yellowed robe, flying in the sky, rushing straight at him.

"Sometimes, you gotta play dirty, to win!" Cyrus started preparing his blades, while he was coming down at high speeds, ready to slice Arthur. Arthur smiled though; he lifted his hammer and slammed the blades down to the ground. Cyrus was shocked, How did he manage to counter that?

"See Cyrus, this hammer is different than the ones you probably know of. The name Overclock isn't just some random name I came up with, it's what the hammer does. It gets stronger every time I use it."

Cyrus sighed, "I guess it has to be done."

Cyrus puts on his mask, hiding his face, and proceeds to hide in the darkness. With Cyrus practically being invisible, Arthur had no clue where he went.

"See Arthur, you should never reveal your abilities to your opponents, as now, I know how to counter you. But I guess it wouldn't have mattered if you told me or not because I would just adapt."

Arthur gave an expression of surprise, his face shrieking, knowing Cyrus was right behind him. "What? How was I not able to foresee that?" But I can still react! Arthur quickly turned the other way, swiftly picking up his hammer, blocking the blade that was milliseconds away from stabbing him. One of Cyrus's blades goes flying, knocking him off balance.

All of a sudden, Cyrus quickly catches himself and uses the chain on his dual blades to swing one of the blades right at Arthur's face, giving him a slice right in the cheek. Arthur started to hallucinate and started to get dizzy, with his eyes blurring up.

"Cyrus, what'd you do to me!"

"Oh, nothing much. While you were trying to find me, I had precious time putting poison on my blades, and luckily enough, I landed a hit on you. Hahaha!"

Cyrus grabbed Arthur's hammer from his hands and started hitting him with it. He overclocked the hammer until it was maxed, and charged up the final blow, causing Arthur to black out, making him unconscious.

"Fights finally over."
