Chapter 21 - Stealing

Thirty minutes later

"No, give me the pin! I will do it." I snatched the pin and twisted it in the lock.

The old padlock at Wiley's Boutique was a pain in the ass . Will was too confident that he could unlock it, so I handed him the bobby pin. It wasn't much of a surprise that he couldn't. How could he with his zero skills and flaring ego! The bobby pin got stuck, and I couldn't help but stare at Will quivering.

"Why are you shaking so much ?" I asked.

"I haven't stolen anything ever. If you don't count people's hearts, that is!" He said, like a complete narc that he is.

"Stop being a total tool! Do I look like I steal things?" I sneered.

"But you did break my precious vase!" He retorted back.

"To hell with that vase. It's stuck up! The pin isn't moving." I said in a whisper.

"Why the hell are you whispering? It's a dark alley, and this is the last shop where people steal from..." Will said, and I couldn't help but hit him.

"You aren't supposed to tell when you are committing a crime! What sort of thief are you then?" I was losing my head. So much for trying to get out of the damned office.

"The bold kind, I guess." He laughed. I elbowed him, and he smacked my butt.

Is he for real!

I pushed him and he landed on his butt. His honey-toned hair was all rummaged while his waist jacket lay covered with the dust from the street. He pouted at me in protest, and I glared at him.

"Don't touch my butt like that again!" I seethed.

When I tried to hold him up, he took me down as we both toppled to the ground.

"For fuck's sake!" I said as I landed on him.

My face was a few inches away from him. My whole body lay pinned against him as I took him down with my body weight. His arms moved onto my lower back, holding onto my haunches as we tried to gain equilibrium. I couldn't help but notice his lips. No, no, not romantic. Not the time for being horny. I must be desperate enough to look for an escape! Focus or both of us will end up in jail.

"You are going to get us caught. So do as I say." I glared at him, still all over him.

He didn't utter another word. Only his eyes moved from my head to the bridge of my nose, to my lips. When they rested there, he gulped down. His Adam's apple quaked with the effort. Fuck. Concentrate! Stupid, stupid hormones.

Placing my hands on either side of the ground, I lifted myself and helped him get on his feet.

"You don't get to torture me like that!" He slowly whispered in my ear as he walked toward me, and I could feel heat course through my body.

"You don't get to act stupid," I said in a low whisper, my anger well reflected in the tone.

When we had barely got the bobby pin out, we heard footsteps.

"Get in here!" He grabbed me by my waist and pulled me into the alley. The entrance to Wiley's Boutique was so close, and no one could spot a single thing in the dark. We stood there in silence with his palm pressed against my lips as his other hand held me closer to him. I could feel his warm body touching my back and the shivering that coursed through my spine.

"I'll go and check." He said and left me in the dark alley, alone. I closed my eyes, hoping he would return soon. No, there are no monsters, Eva. Nothing is in here. Breathe. Count to ten. One...two...three.

Breathe...four... five...six.

"Come, let's go. I spotted a side door, and it's not locked! We can get in and out in no time."

I could hear Will's voice. He was back. Almost as if on instinct, I rushed and hold onto him tight. My arms wrapped around him, and I buried my face in his chest. His cologne took over my senses, and I eased a little.

"What's the matter?" He asked.

"Nothing, I just haven't stolen anything before." I lied.

I couldn't tell him I was afraid of the dark. He would make a big deal out of it.

"Don't worry. I am right here with you." He said, trying to comfort me.

"How's that supposed to help me? Isn't it worse because you are a 'bold thief'!" I mocked.

I could tell he was smiling even if it weren't too dark for me to see him.

"Let's get out of here. I am going to get the best clothes from Wiley's!" He said, his tone playful.

I followed him, and much to our amazement, the side door was three feet, a wooden plank that screamed 'in need of renovation'... Will ducked and went in first. I was worried he would hit his head because how else would his six feet of jerkiness get in? But he seemed to get in real quick. I followed carefully, trying not to hit my head on something.

"Careful there!" He said, taking my hand in his as I trampled through an array of cartons.

We entered the lobby opening into the boutique. The room smelled of old furniture, and paint chipped off from the ceiling. Will turned on his flashlight, and I rushed for the switchboard. The lights turned on, and the whole boutique was flashing with LED. The floor was wood, painted beige and shades of pastel green.

More than a dozen mannequins lined up with all sorts of clothing. As if Will had read my mind, he aimed for one and got all the clothes off, tucking them in his arm. It was casual denim and a Havana shirt. We were doing great with stealing the clothes when we heard the footsteps again.

"Quick, quick, back to the side door!" I yelled and dashed for it.

Will came running after me, and with our hearts beating crazily, we hurried out of the door.

I hit my head on the edge of the frame and was withering with pain. Then, the most unexpected thing happened, Will held me in his arms and lifted me. We were quite a sight now. While I held the just stolen denim and shirt tightly, he carried me bridal style, and we were running for our lives in the streets in clothes that looked like we had just come from a funeral.

"Come back here at once!" We could hear a man yelling in the background, but we couldn't stop. I didn't want us to stop.

He ran with me in his arms, and I laughed like I hadn't laughed in a lifetime.

"I never freaked out like this in my entire life!"I said, screaming as we neared his car in one of the lanes.

"That was fun," Will said, breathing heavily; as we went slow with our sprint.

"Put me down, now!" I said, panting from all the excitement.

His eyes stared at me for a second, and then he did nothing but smile.

Will put me down, and we were laughing our asses out. My lungs felt overworked from all the breathing and running and laughing!

"We should do this more often!" I said.

"Maybe not. I think your head's going to end up with a bump." He said worriedly.

By this time, I was practically out of my mind. Quite literally. My senses pulsated, and I could only think about Will's cologne clawing into my nostrils. Musky sandalwood. It was almost as if I was intoxicated. I inched closer to him. Our faces distanced by a few centimeters, and then I didn't realize when I leaned in all the way. Our lips brushed lightly against each other. That is until he stepped backward and started the engine of his Bentley. Heat coursed through me.

"Get in quick. That's enough adventure for today." He said blatantly.

A little embarrassed at my own damned self, I took a seat in the back, trying my best to keep distance between us. God knows what would have happened if I kissed him! I had kissed him before, but this was different. It became a primal need to feel his lips against mine. I must be going crazy for real.

Will started driving, and I didn't quite realize I had developed a head bump. My head thought of other stuff: about Josh and all the questions I had to answer to Roms. The last thing I remember was vibing to the stereo when I drifted into another set of thoughts, a depressing lot about Josh.

What would he think about me now that he had seen Will and me leaving together?
