Chapter Four
Jane's POV
The cab driver looked very concerned for me that I knew that I had to give him a little more details. He is just a stranger anyway. We would probably never see each other again.
"I'm supposed to be on a flight right now, but I found out that my fiancee has not just been cheating on me, but he has been planning to scam me. I plan to deal with him but I also fear what he would do to me if he catches me." My phone was still ringing and I knew that the jig is up. Maybe I can salvage this situation by telling Joseph the truth straight to his face. Maybe I can have him arrested before he flies out of the country with my documents.
"So, now that your phone is ringing, he would know that you are not on the plane, right?" He asked for confirmation from me.
"Yes. I guess I have to call him out. There's no use trying to avoid him again." I responded.
"It's not over, my darling." He smiled at me as if he already had the solution to my issue. I made a face to him demanding an explanation.
"Let me ask you a question; are you ready to lose this phone?" He pointed at my phone.
"What are you talking about?"
"Just trust me and give me your phone." On a normal day, I would have spewed words at him about how all men are liars and thieves, but there was something in his eyes that told me I could trust him with my life. And I don't even know his name. I gave him my phone to answer the call.
He cleared his throat as he picked the call.
"Hello, who is there?" He sounded so different, like someone with an African accent; definitely a rude person. He put it on speaker for us to hear Joseph's response.
There was silence for some seconds before Joseph continued.
"Who is this? Where is Jane?" He demanded.
"You're the one that the owner of this phone is trying to call as I collect am abi?" He laughed hilariously as he continued in broken English.
"What the heck? You stole my fiance's phone?" I could hear Joseph's breathing even through the speaker of the phone.
"Mr man. No use english for me. If you want to collect this phone, bring five hundred dollars to the airport in one hour or I will sell it. Nonsense." He hissed loudly and he hung up.
"Thank you." I smiled at him because I understand what he just did.
"You're welcome. But you can't have this phone back again. You will need to upload all your important details to your iCloud and get another phone. Then you'll have to call him in some hours time or tomorrow, explaining to him how your phone got stolen and everything other thing. So, you need a new phone and probably mask your location with VPN to hide your true location." He explained like a true expert.
"How can I ever thank you?" I smiled at him.
"Well, you still owe me five hundred dollars and I have a new phone." He laughed. I pulled out five hundred dollars from my purse. He definitely deserved more than that. I took my phone and uploaded the sex videos I took to my cloud and drive. Then, I went on to other files and contacts and I ensured that I did not miss any of them. I also ordered a new phone with it using my card.
"I don't believe our story is over, miss." The look he gave me was different now. Not minding that we are way out of each other's league. When he turned his back to face me squarely, what I saw in his eyes was like he had finally found what his heart has been searching for. My heart skipped a bit, which should not be doing so at the moment.
Immediately I was done, I returned the phone to him and stepped out of his vehicle. He came out too and he smiled at me.
"Seeing that I've made so much money today, why don't I buy you a drink? It will be my treat." He waved the few dollars that I had just given him to my face.
"Don't push your luck." I laughed at him.
"I don't need company now. I need to sort out how I will leave this country tonight or tomorrow." I added.
"You are going to really leave me today without giving me your number? Not even your name?" I have to give him kudos for his audacity.
"I thought you said our story is not over? So, when next we meet, ask me for my name again." I smiled and went into the bar.
"Till we meet again." I heard him call out, but I did not answer him.
***
I dropped my drink after recounting the events that transpired today. The new phone I ordered would be coming in a few minutes from now and I knew who I'd first call.
For me to be able to make it to Singapore early tomorrow morning and beat Joseph to it, I can't use the same plane that Joseph would be boarding. I don't have access to my family's jet yet and I wouldn't even use it if I had access to it to avoid the information getting to Helen. Even though she is slow, she's not that stupid.
There's only one quick solution that I can think of now. It's not as if I loved that solution too. But I'll have to choose the devil I know rather than the angel that I do not know.
So, when I got my new phone and downloaded my contacts, I called him first.
"Hello Dayne. It's been a while." This is my long lost love. The one that broke my heart and made me give up on love.
"I need to see you. Can we meet at Mac Clarence's?"
