Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Chapter Three

Joseph POV

"Babe, what's going on?" Helen asked me.

"Didn't you hear something just out of the room?" I whispered to her, trying not to be distracted by her twin melons dangling on my face.

"There's no one there. Or maybe it's that stray cat that sometimes visit that witch. You said it yourself when we entered." She pushed my chest back to the bed, trying to give me a blowj**. I pushed her face away from my manhood as she sighed in annoyance.

"Who is there?" I barked. Silence. I was not satisfied.

"Babe, where are you going?" She whispered harshly to me.

"I need to find out who was spying on us." I stood up from the bed and put on my briefs and singlets. I don't want any paparazzi catching me naked and putting it on the tabloids.

"Stay here and don't come outside." I instructed Helen. If we are exposed, then everything I've worked for in the past two months would be for nothing. At this point I'm ready to do anything to anyone, absolutely anything to keep our secret.

I walked to the door surreptitiously, trying to minimise movements but it seemed like the door was far away. Suddenly I heard footsteps rushing away from the door. I rushed to the door now, not minding the noise.

"Fuck!" I cursed loudly.

"What's the matter?" Helen called out. "Did you not lock the door? The door was ajar!" I picked up my trousers and wore them quickly. There was nowhere the paparazzi would run to that I wouldn't catch them.

I rushed to the main entrance of Jane's house. Then I heard the revving of a car engine. Since when was the security so lose in this estate that they would allow anyone to come in?

By the time I got out of the house, the car had already left and I could not see the occupants of the vehicle.

"Cabs?" They have gotten smarter.

I walked into the house swearing furiously. Helen came out the bed, fully dressed already.

"Did you get the intruder?"

"Where's my phone?" I barked and almost immediately, I saw it lying on the table. I picked it up. Ten missed calls from Jane? She must have figured out that she's not with the documents. I'll call her later. I have a more important call to make.

"What are you going to do?" Helen asked, lazily.

"I'll handle it." I simply said and pressed the green button of my phone after I had punched some digits in it.

It rang for a minute, before he picked it up.

"Hello, Franco." I called my Mexican friend and he answered as if he was going to chatter like a chipmunk, so I cut him off before I forget.

"I have two jobs for you now. I need you to run me this plate number… It's a public vehicle. A cab. The plate number is NYU…"

I cut the number and relaxed.

"It is sorted." I told her. But I did not tell her how I will sort it out. I will find the owner of the plate number and make him spill the truth of whom he collaborated with to find dirt on me. Paparazzis have a way of sucking the life out of people and I will make sure I get the photos or videos and make sure they are never able to speak again. One way or another.

"It's alright, baby. We'll be fine." Helen rested my head on her exposed cleavages and stroke my hair as she spoke softly to me. The moment was already ruined with the intruder as I kept on thinking about the audacity of these self acclaimed media guys.

But we had been really careful. We made sure we always came at separate times and we did not use public places like hotels. How else did they get scope of the news?

I checked through my phone without thinking much and my attention got to Jane's calls again. I sat up straight as if a veil had just been removed from my face and I could see clearly. Jane's calls were close to an hour ago.

"Jane!" My eyes widened.

"What? How can you mention her while I'm still here." Helen's voice oozed with jealousy, but I didn't care.

"What if it was Jane that's the intruder? I mean, no one could dare barge into private property even if it was the scoop of the century." I could see it clearly now. Jane could have tried my line several times and when I did not pick, she could have gotten a cab to get her documents since there was probably still some time left before her plane's departure.

"No way, babe. There's no way that Jane would think to come back here. She hates to be late, remember? She would rather that you picked it for her than risk missing her flight. It's not as though she has the money to book another flight, yet. She doesn't have the estate yet. Jane is on her way to Singapore at the moment, I can tell you that." Helen was not so reassuring at this moment. So, I did the most sensible thing that could come to my mind.

"Who are you calling again?" I hated the way she took it with less concern.

"There's only one way to find out if you're right. I'll call Jane now." I said, putting my phone to my ear as my muscles relaxed.

"And if she's not on the plane?"

"It will ring out."

Jane's POV

I relaxed in the cab after the narrow escape from the two devils. The taxi driver was very quick to respond immediately I entered and for that I'm grateful. We were way past the thirty minutes ultimatum that I gave him, but for his quick response, I'd pay him double.

"Quite a day, huh?" That was the first thing he said to me.

I looked at him using the rearview mirror and that was when I noticed him for the first time. He was quite young to be a cab driver; or too handsome. I blushed when he smiled at me. How do I explain my rushing out of a house I did not open with my keys and telling him to drive away quickly before I get caught by the occupants that I was not a burglar or a stalker?

"I'm sorry, this is not what it seems. I did not break into that apartment. That was my apartment and some jerk that I trusted…" I didn't even know why I was trying to explain my situation to a complete stranger that I just met, but he was kind to save me from myself.

"It's okay, miss. You don't have to explain yourself. I'm just here to do a job for you. Although, that guy looks like someone who could have killed you if he was given the chance." He laughed. I think he didn't mean it so seriously, but when he saw that I barely flinched, his face went white.

"Wow! I don't even know what to say…" he stammered.

"So, where to? I guess you have missed your flight?" He tried sounding as professional as possible when I did not respond to him.

"I don't know." I sighed. "I don't know where to go. I just want to turn off for a moment." I was tired.

"Don't worry, ma'am. I know just the place for you to go to. You'll be alright when you get there." With that, he took a sharp turn by his left and drove into the city.

I needed to do something to ensure that I expose Joseph for who he is. Even at that, I need to get that document far from him. With the level of investments that I had put into this partnership, if I lost to the deal, I know that my company will almost go bankrupt before I resumed as the chairperson.

As we were arriving towards Mac Clarence pub, my phone began to vibrate. It was ringing. I looked at the screen to check who the caller was and I froze.

"Oh no! No no no." I exclaimed loudly before I could stop myself. The driver jerked from his seat in apprehension and asked me.

"What is it?"

I looked at him as if he would understand when I said "I think I have been caught." Joseph Stone was calling me.
