Marcel groggily opened his eyes to the sound of his alarm blaring in his small apartment. He rubbed the sleep off his face, yawning as he swung his legs over the side of the bed. It was just another typical Monday morning in the bustling city of New Eden. Or so he thought.
As he stumbled to the kitchen to start his morning routine, he noticed a strange, pungent smell wafting through the air. It was a mix of something chemical and... earthy? Marcel's curiosity piqued, he turned on the TV to check the news.
The screen flickered to life, displaying a breaking news report. The anchor's face was pale, and her voice trembled as she spoke.
"...Reports are coming in of widespread, unexplained phenomena occurring across the globe. Witnesses describe strange, glowing portals appearing in major cities, emitting a piercing hum. The portals seem to be... altering the environment around them."
Marcel's eyes widened as he watched footage of the portals. They were unlike anything he had ever seen before. The camera shook violently, capturing the chaos as people ran for their lives.
The anchor continued, her voice growing more urgent. "We're receiving word that the portals are not only affecting the environment but also... altering the laws of physics. Gravity seems to be fluctuating in areas near the portals, causing widespread destruction."
Marcel's mind reeled as he tried to process the information. What was happening? How was this possible?
Suddenly, the TV screen flickered and went dark. Marcel was left standing in stunned silence, the only sound the hum of the refrigerator in the background.
He shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. This had to be some kind of prank or a hack, right? But deep down, he knew something was terribly wrong.
As he stood there, frozen in uncertainty, the lights in his apartment began to flicker. The air seemed to charged with an electric tension, and Marcel could feel the hairs on the back of his neck standing on end.
It was then that he heard the first rumblings of the change. A low, ominous growl that seemed to come from the very foundations of the earth itself.
Marcel's heart racing, he knew that his world was about to be turned upside down. The question was, would he be able to adapt and survive in this new, twisted reality?
