Part 11 – The Burning Trace
Fai woke up with ragged breaths. His heart pounded as he felt a lingering heat spreading across his arm. He lifted his hand and saw it trembling—not from fear, but from the faint burn mark on his skin.
"Isa..." he murmured, trying to steady his breathing.
In the real world, he was supposed to be safe. But after their last battle with the white cat in their fantasy world, the traces of that fight seemed to have followed him here. The same heat he felt when the cat's sharp claws nearly struck him was still present.
His thoughts immediately turned to Isa. Was she experiencing the same thing?
Fai grabbed his phone and called Isa. The long dial tone rang before her soft voice finally answered.
"Fai?" She sounded exhausted.
"Are you okay? What happened after we got separated last night?" Fai asked right away.
Isa was silent for a moment before replying in a quiet voice, "I... I woke up with a burn mark on my shoulder. Just like in that world."
