Zack, moving quickly, didn't look back as he exited the alley and kept walking away. Then, he glanced behind him.
That's when he saw Beast Boy and Cyborg running toward the alley. He didn't have time to think. Quickly, he gave a low command:
"Store."
In an instant, his gun and dagger vanished from his hands as if they had never been there. He pulled his cap down slightly and lowered his head while speeding up his pace to get away from the area.
The system laughed in his head:
"Ooooh, look who we have here! Cyborg and Beast Boy, the beloved heroes! I wonder… will they chase after you if they realize you were there?"
Zack ignored the system's comments and increased his speed, heading straight toward his base.
At the same moment, at the entrance of the alley, Cyborg suddenly stopped, scanning the injured man on the ground before glancing toward the street, where he caught a glimpse of Zack walking away.
"Didn't we see that guy earlier at the fast food place?"
Beast Boy raised an eyebrow, then shook his head as he popped the last piece of pizza into his mouth:
"Ah, you're imagining things, man. Focus on the problem in front of us instead of trying to connect random dots. Let's see what happened here."
Cyborg wasn't entirely convinced, but he didn't argue. He knelt beside one of the injured men and began checking on him, while Zack gradually disappeared into the dark alleys, heading toward his base as fast as he could.
The system, with a voice dripping with sarcasm, said:
"You know? I'm impressed by your quick thinking. But one day, you'll have to face these heroes head-on. You can't run forever, Zack."
Zack didn't reply. All he wanted now was to return to his base… and get some rest after this eventful night.
—
When Zack entered the base, he took a deep breath, finally feeling a sense of safety.
But before he could take two steps, the system's voice exploded in his head with so much excitement that it nearly burst his eardrum:
"Congratulations, champ! Those bastards have been thrown in jail, which means you successfully completed your mission! See? You're not completely useless after all!"
Zack sighed, but he couldn't deny feeling a bit satisfied with himself.
Suddenly, a blue window appeared before him, displaying his rewards:
Mission: Send a group of low-level villains to jail – Completed
Rewards:
$150
350 XP
But that wasn't all. The system continued in an excited tone:
"And because you completed this mission in just one day, here's an extra reward!"
One-Day Completion Bonus:
Gacha Card (Common)
+400 Bonus XP
Before Zack could fully process what was happening, the system suddenly whistled loudly—
Congratulations! You have leveled up to Level 2!
You have earned 1 Stat Point!
Zack suddenly felt a strange surge of energy flowing through his body, as if his muscles became slightly more flexible and his mind sharper. It wasn't a drastic change, but it was noticeable.
"So… this is what leveling up feels like?" he muttered to himself as he looked at his hands.
As usual, the system didn't miss the chance to be sarcastic:
"Oh, look at this! Our little boy is growing up! What will you do with your new stat point? Will you put it into Strength? Vitality? Or maybe Intelligence… because you desperately need it?"
Zack ignored the system's comment, focusing on how to distribute his new points. He sat down on his old bed, ready to plan his next move.
Lying back on his bed, he said, "Stats." Immediately, his stat screen appeared before him with minor updates.
Name: Zack Morkey

Health: 100/100
Strength: 7
Agility: 9

Mixed Martial Arts Master (Currently Non-Upgradable)
Basic Accuracy (Slight effect on aiming, Upgradable)
Observation (Level 1) (Helps detect small details, Upgradable)
Available Money: $350
Available Stat Points: 1
After thinking for a moment, Zack decided to put the point into Strength.
The moment he added the point, he felt a slight increase in the firmness of his muscles, as if his body had grown just a bit stronger. It wasn't a massive boost, but it was enough to be noticeable.
A stat update window appeared in front of him:
Name: Zack Morkey
Level: 2 (50/1200 XP)
Health: 100/100
Strength: 8
Agility: 9
Intelligence: 8
Vitality: 7
Available Stat Points: 0
The system: "Ah, do you feel that? That's the sensation of becoming exactly 0.5% stronger! Congratulations, maybe after another 100 points, you'll be able to crush a soda can with your bare hands!"
Zack didn't respond to the sarcasm, simply closing the window as he thought about his next move. He had only just begun building himself up, and he knew there was still a long road ahead.
Turning toward the wall, he let his body sink into the worn-out bed. He took a deep breath, finally feeling some relief after a long day.
"Let me sleep, you stupid system..." he muttered under his breath, trying to block out the system's endless stream of nonsense.
But the system wasn't going to let him rest that easily.
The system: "Oh, how touching! Our exhausted hero wants to sleep after a long day of wandering around and killing people! But don't worry, I'll be here… watching you… always!"
Zack ignored the comment completely. He was starting to get used to the system's nonsense, but exhaustion was stronger than any urge to reply.
Still, he couldn't help but think about how strange today had been. From being someone with no real purpose in life to becoming a fighter, shooting guns, and using knives in the streets of Gotham.
Before he drifted into sleep, the last thought that crossed his mind was:
"Was this just a crazy dream… or the beginning of hell?"
Then, he fell into a deep slumber… while the system remained silent.
This time.
