Chapter 9 - 9. Woodrise

After the Spirit Awakening Ceremony, Arthev sits alone by the riverside, a secluded place where he can quietly analyze his martial soul without any disturbances. The gentle sound of flowing water calms his mind as he reflects on his earlier awakening.

"A tree... But is it really just that?"

His mind races through different possibilities. Then, his eyes sharpen.

"Shinragan… It's from Naruto, and if my eyes came from that world, then could my martial soul be related to that world too?"

He recalls the large, ancient-looking tree that appeared during his awakening.

"The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a powerful tree-related ability….. is Hashirama's Wood Release."

Excitement builds up in his chest. If his theory is correct, then his martial soul isn't just any tree—it's something that can manipulate wood like Hashirama Senju! He quickly stands up and moves to a nearby tree.

Acting on instinct, he channels a small amount of his soul power outward. The tree before him shudders slightly, its leaves trembling as if responding to his will. A spark of realization lights up in his mind.

"…It's reacting to me."

"Wait… This feeling… It's like I'm connected to nature itself!"

The idea clicks in his mind. His Shinragan comes from Naruto, and this feeling—this absolute control over trees and plants—reminds him of something very familiar. A legend. A power feared and revered in the Naruto series.

"Is this...really… Hashirama's Wood Release?"

If his guess is right, then his martial soul isn't just some ordinary tree—it embodies the power of Mokuton, the legendary ability of Hashirama Senju. But he needs to confirm it through action.

Standing up, he walks toward a more open space. Placing his hands together in a familiar seal—one he had seen countless times in Naruto—he concentrates, this time intentionally pushing more soul power into his martial soul.

"Let's see if this works."

Motivated by the response, he decides to push further. Taking a deep breath, he steadies his soul power, then brings his hands together in a clasp—just like Hashirama.

A sudden surge of energy rushes through him. Beneath him, the earth shifts slightly. Then—small wooden tendrils emerge from the ground, twisting and growing according to his will.

They are small, barely thicker than a branch, but they move according to his control. With concentration, he changes their shape—some forming into wooden spikes, others weaving into tiny figures.

Seeing this, Arthev's expression turns serious. This… this is not normal for a martial soul in this world. He just created wood from nothing.

"I was right. This isn't an ordinary tree… This is Wood Release."

A rush of excitement fills him, but he quickly calms himself. He has confirmed that his martial soul has incredible potential. However, he needs to understand its full capabilities before revealing anything to the outside world.

"I need to train this properly. I can't let anyone find out until I fully understand it."

With this realization, Arthev almost half of the night discovering his martial spirit abilities. With this, he got to know not only wood and plant creation and manipulation, he could assist in plants growth, making plants and trees to grow in no time.

It's other ability allow his wood or Arthev himself can absorb moisture when in contact with living things or objects that contain moisture, drawing out the dampness like a silent thief. For example, if he touches a sweat-drenched fighter after a battle, the wood would pull the moisture from their skin, leaving them dry and parched. Similarly, if he grazes a rain-soaked cloak, the fabric would become bone-dry in an instant. However, it cannot absorb water directly, such as from a pool, river, or any free-standing liquid. If he were to dip his hand into a lake, the water would remain untouched, unaffected by his ability.

Many people misunderstand moisture and water absorption, often conflating the two, but these abilities are entirely distinct.

Moisture absorption relies on extracting water vapor or trace amounts of dampness from surfaces or the air, while water absorption involves taking in liquid water directly.

For instance, in a dense jungle, his wood or he could drain the humidity from the air or sap the dew from leaves, but it would be powerless against a flowing stream. This distinction is what sets his ability apart—while others might assume he could drain entire bodies of water, the truth is far more nuanced, and far more fascinating. Just think as Sir Crocodile's sand-based powers strike fear by desiccating his enemies, his wood's ability to sap moisture from living things makes it a formidable and eerie force, though it remains limited to moisture alone, not liquid water.

Arthev also discovered that he could convert soul power into the essential energy needed for survival—kind of like a one-man, walking photosynthesis factory. Just as plants produce their own food through photosynthesis, his body automatically generated the energy required to sustain him, eliminating the need for food. Basically, he was a self-sustaining powerhouse, much like Obito surviving in Madara's hideout without a snack break.

This ability was an absolute game-changer. It meant Arthev could endure long periods without eating, maintain peak physical condition, and focus entirely on training and battles without the annoying inconvenience of hunger or exhaustion. No need to hunt for food or worry about stomach growls ruining his intense moments. On top of that, it boosted his stamina and recovery, making him far more resilient than ordinary soul masters—because why just be strong when you can also be an energy-efficient, battle-ready machine?

If soul masters ever held an endurance competition, he wouldn't just win—he'd outlast the event itself.
