Chapter 8 - Hunger

Chapter 28 "Hunger"

Falling, throwing up, and then falling again, repeating this process endlessly in a sea of extreme coldness and emptiness, with his mind churned into a mess of confused perceptions gouging and stabbing at his mind like sharp knives, until his consciousness was almost interrupted, and some kind of sudden relief from the brink of drowning finally struck him, jolting Yu Sheng out of that cold, dark, infinite descent.

He sat up violently from the bed, and then his whole body was off balance, and he almost fell to the floor when his body lurched, only at the last moment grasping the edge of the bedside table with his hand and barely holding himself up, feeling his head spinning.

The sharp and constant throbbing pain made him even suspect that his brain was actually boiling.

But fortunately the feeling didn't last much longer, and when one did come to one's senses, the overwhelming sensations in one's mind faded away just like that dream, leaving only a few unpleasant impressions.

Yu Sheng sat on the edge of the bed and took a few breaths, looking up at the window and seeing that the setting sun was already approaching the roofs of the buildings in the distant city, and the sky was darkening a little.

"... A whole day has gone by ..." he muttered somewhat unexpectedly, getting up by holding onto the nightstand and going first to the table to pour a glass of water down his throat before patting his face and trying to recover some energy from that not-so-restful sleep to regain some of his spirit, and left the bedroom to the first floor.

"I really did not think that you this 'wake up' can be really difficult to this extent," just came to the restaurant, Yu Sheng on the table with the oil paintings complained, "I also thought that at most dizziness or heart burst a little A moment it, good guy a open eyes almost to last year's New Year's Eve dinner spit out ..."

After he complained, Irene did not immediately return a series of beeps as usual, but instead was very quiet. Yu Sheng suddenly felt strange, and twisted his head to look at the oil painting on the table, only to see that Irene was paralyzed like a malfunctioning chair covered with a red velvet carpet, hugging a teddy bear and staring blankly at a slanting upward, with an occasional roll of the eyeballs, followed by rising up and dry-heaving.

Yusheng: "... How can you still make yourself so miserable with this 'fierce awakening'?"

Irene glanced up at him, and just as she tried to speak another meal hit her - however, as a mannequin that had been sealed for an unknown number of years, she didn't even have any acid in her stomach, let alone a New Year's Eve meal (in fact, Yu Sheng doubted that she even had a stomach), and so she was left to plop down on the edge of the chair to make it harder and harder, retching as if she was going to be the next one to to shake her head off.

It took a long time for this unlucky mannequin to get over it, and looked up at Yu Sheng, as angry as if he was dying, "I wasn't the one who 'woke up' the two of us, it was you."

  Yusheng: "... ah?"

"You woke that fox up with that last shout, I didn't even react!" Erin looked sad, "Why did you shout so loud!"

Yu Sheng listened with a bit of a daze, but at least he understood the other party's meaning, scratching his hair a bit awkwardly, "I don't know, I just wanted to warn Hu Beaver, I feel that her state is very dangerous."

"Then you feel quite right," Erin said, and then "vomited" and slumped down on the edge of the chair, retching twice before she got her breath back, and looked at Yu Sheng in a bad mood, "Okay, the good news is that you managed to wake that fox up before she got deeper into the trap, but she herself should be able to wake up for a while. The good news is that you managed to wake her up before that fox got in even deeper, and even though she incidentally 'popped' both of us out when she woke up, she should be able to wake up for a while on her own."

Yusheng walked over and pulled out a chair at the dining table to sit across from Erin, his expression growing serious, "What about the bad news?"

Erin didn't say anything for a moment, nodding softly after a few seconds of silence, "As you should have guessed - she won't last much longer."

  Yusheng frowned and said nothing.

Yes, he did feel it, he felt it when he was trapped in the valley, that kind of hunger and madness buried deep in the heart of the beaver, like some kind of sinful thing that would grow and keep on eroding away, although he didn't know what it was at the beginning, but in the last confrontation with the flesh and blood monster, he realized that the "hunger" was not as simple as it appeared to be. "was not as simple as it appeared.

And the scene he had just seen in the depths of the dream world had only given him a more accurate grasp of the Beaver's situation.

"If you want to help that fox, you'd better act fast," Erin said from the sidelines, "the one that compelled her is trying to turn her into some sort of ... 'sustenance' ', that thing's killing people isn't the goal, 'madness in hunger' is what it's after - it's incredible that the fox's will is tough enough to have fought it off until now, but the longer she holds out, the longer the 'transformation' will happen. 'transformation' takes place ... the more 'sustenance' she'll be able to provide, and things are going to get very, very, very messy."

Yusheng listened with a sullen face and added what he had so far grasped based on Irene's description, but suddenly he sensed something and looked up at the picture frame across the room.

"Irene," he said with a serious face, "do you ... know something? About that valley, and what's in it?"

Erin hesitated, first shaking her head, but then nodding gently right after.

"I don't remember most of the stuff, including what the hell was going on in that valley, but I seem to remember a little bit about that fox encounter, I should have read about it before."

She said, frowning again and pausing briefly, as if she were trying to scrounge something useful from her fractured and tattered memory.

"... Entity-Hunger, I think that's what it's called," Erin said as she recalled, "It's an entity with clear malice and a high level of danger, it's generated in a cordoned off area, where the environment is poisoned and hunger spreads, it's very aggressive itself, but what's more dangerous is its 'influence'. The entity itself is highly aggressive, but what's more dangerous is its 'influence', those who are under the attention of this entity will be plunged into terrible hunger and their willpower will be greatly tested, I can't remember the exact victimization, I only remember ... that it's very dangerous and has harmed a lot of people. many people, and worse ..."

Erin stopped and looked up into Yusheng's eyes.

"Hunger turns one into a beast, devouring dignity and life at the same time, and the vast majority of people should not be able to carry it off, and those that fall, become part of the entity-hunger, ad infinitum."

Listening to Irene's narration, the expression on Yu Sheng's face gradually tightened, a heavy sense of oppression pressed on his heart, and just then, he suddenly thought of another thing--

The urge to feed was in the back of his mind as he fought the flesh and blood monster!

Is it possible that he has been affected by "hunger"?

Yu Sheng's heart tightened and he immediately spoke quickly, "Wait, then what is the main 'symptom' after being affected by 'hunger'?"

Erin gave him an odd expression, "... Of course it's 'hungry'."

"I don't mean this, I mean ..." Yu Sheng hurriedly waved his hand and organized his language again, "For example, when I saw that monster, I especially wanted to take a bite, and I even thought that thing tasted pretty good. I even came back and fried two dishes, could this reaction also be influenced by 'hunger'?"

Eileen's expression was a little dumbfounded, and the first thing she thought of was the "local specialties" that Yu Sheng had brought back, as well as the four dishes and one soup that were full of color and aroma.

"Yes, yes oh, and you ate ..." muttered Ms. Mannequin, but immediately afterward suddenly reacted with a change in tone, "Nope! That's certainly not ah! The effect of 'Entity-Hunger' is to make you go crazy with hunger and gnaw on others, not to make you gnaw on it! It's not like it compels people to fall into madness by nesting with itself!"

Irene startled Yu Sheng with this stuttering, but he immediately realized that this was the reasoning - although hunger and appetite were very much related, they were two distinct definitions when placed in the "foreign realm" and "entities" that were based on strict rules. Although hunger and appetite are very much related, when it comes to "foreign domains" and "entities" based on strict rules, they are two distinct definitions, especially when an entity possesses active malice, its influence must operate in strict accordance with its rules.

To be clear, if Yu Sheng was really affected by "hunger" when he was in that valley, then he should have eaten the beaver - not the monster that was the source of the compulsion.

Of course, the first time he gnawed on that monster was more or less tainted with reluctance in it, and that was left out.

Thinking of this Yu Sheng breathed a sigh of relief, confirming that he had not been infested by that weird entity, and he also recalled that he did produce a normal feeling of fullness after eating before going to bed, and felt a great sense of relief, letting out a long breath of air, "That's okay, it seems that I'm still quite normal."

Erin froze when she heard that and beeped in a small voice, "No, I think the fact that you can develop an appetite for that stuff is in itself abnormal ..."

Yu Sheng waved his hand indifferently and changed to the next topic right after, "So, that very abstract-looking but pretty good-tasting monster is the 'Entity-Hunger' right? Taking it out will free the Beaver from its influence - I know there's no way to completely kill the entity, I'm talking about taking it out for now."

"Actually ... I'm not sure," Erin's reply was but a little hesitant, "'Hunger' belongs to a rather special entity, and the one you saw the The monster you saw was its 'materialization', but as I understand it, the real 'hunger' actually pervades that entire valley. Do you understand what I mean? What you saw was just its 'tentacles' that came out to forage for food and sense the situation, its main body ... is just as the name suggests, the hunger that is omnipresent in the valley."

As Yu Sheng listened, his expression grew a little dull.

  Yes, he heard you.

  "Fuck yeah, the rules department?!"

Chapter 29: A Day with the Dolls

Irene quickly realized what Yu Sheng meant by "rule system".

"Actually, I'm not quite sure, as I said, I have a blurred memory of many things, including even many of the most basic knowledge - the painting has affected me in more ways than just a memory deficit, it has dismantled my mind over a long period of time," The mannequin in the painting pointed to his own head and slowly said, "Many of those properties about 'hunger' are just rough impressions, I rearranged them based on my own understanding, you'd better just take them as a reference."

"... Anyway, it's true that that thing is hard to deal with," Yu Sheng pondered for a moment and nodded, "It seems that there must be an alternative plan, once we can't handle that monster, we should also find a way to bring the beaver out from that valley. Bringing Hu Beaver out of that valley - by the way, getting her out of that foreign land should also be able to get rid of the effects of 'hunger', right?"

"It should be possible, the influence of the Otherworld can't spill over into reality, but seriously, the very difficulty of bringing another human being out of the Otherworld under a 'hunger' blockade would be outrageous."

Irene said while thinking, and then suddenly raised her head, staring straight at Yu Sheng: "Hey no, you really intend to solve that thing ... by yourself no, not to mention how you solve it, how do you know that you will definitely still be able to go back to that valley?"

"Isn't that what you said? Once a person has made contact with the foreign realm, they can never get rid of that connection again," Yu Sheng said casually, "I understand that it's like falling into a pit of quicksand, you can only keep sinking down, and even if you run out for a while you're only holding up for a little while in the process of sinking down ... "

Erin stared, "That's what I said, but what that means is that after you've dealt with the Otherworld you'll make a connection to the whole realm of 'beyond reason' and you'll have a higher chance of coming into contact with other Otherworlds or paranormal phenomena, not that you'll necessarily go back to the Otherworld that you came into contact with in the first place in, this stuff is completely random!"

"But I have a hunch that I'll see that monster again soon, and that valley," Yu Sheng met Irene's gaze earnestly, "I'm not completely 'disconnected' from that place, it ... seems to be waiting for me to return."

Erin's scarlet eyes flashed with a trace of gravity as she thought for a moment and spoke with less certainty, "... Spiritual intuition?"

"I don't know if that's what you'd call psychic intuition," Yu Sheng said with a show of hands, "but ever since dealing with that monster I did start to be able to 'feel' things, vaguely, but it seemed to be spot on. "

"... Ordinary people, even after stimulation, would hardly be able to generate psychic intuition in such a short period of time, not to mention controlling and utilizing it to a certain extent," Irene couldn't help but look Yu Sheng up and down, with a bit of amazement in her expression. "I'm afraid that you, this person, is not born with the holy body of an investigator ..."

Yusheng opened his mouth, "Ah, that's a good thing?"

Erin thought for a moment, a broken mouth as always, "Investigators have a pretty high mortality rate."

  Yusheng: "..."

Before he could say anything, he heard Erin's broken mouth pick up again, "But the death rate is higher for ordinary people who have been exposed to the Otherworld and are unable to develop psychic intuition."

The corner of Yu Sheng's mouth twitched twice, "That's fine, it's not a big problem."

While Erin was instantly amazed at the extent of Yusheng's generosity of heart, Yusheng simply shook his head and got up from the table.

Immediately a voice came from the painting, "Hey what are you doing?"

"Kitchen! I've been sleeping all day, and I haven't even made dinner yet!" Yu Sheng twisted his head and glared at Erin, "Say, why are you so tense whenever I move places, like I'm going to drop you?"

"Nonsense, I'm having trouble moving around on my own right now, do you know how unsettling it must be - and with a guy like you who can fall into the Otherworld as soon as you leave the house, how do I know that there won't be a time when you'll just get up and disappear again, and then the heavens will be gone forever... ..."

Erin's mouth was a bit indolent as always, but Yu Sheng just frowned and sensed that the other party seemed to be just trying to be concerned.

As well as ... perceived the mannequin's inability to control its own situation and the state of being afflicted after it had been difficult to find someone to communicate with, caused by being trapped in an oil painting.

He thought for a moment and got up to pick Erin up from the table.

The latter immediately exclaimed out, "Hey what are you doing, I ... I still watch TV, warning you ah you don't hang me back to that room on the second floor! I ... big deal I don't talk you put me back first ..."

"Cooking alone is no fun, you're idle anyway, go to the kitchen and talk with me."

Irene was stunned for a moment, peeking over the edge of the frame to observe Yu Sheng's expression, which seemed a bit incredulous, but soon hooted and nodded, "Yes, yes, yes!"

Yusheng bristled and carried Erin into the kitchen, casually pestling her onto the windowsill before turning to open the refrigerator and checking the ingredients for dinner.

Hu Beaver's figure, however, floated in his mind - in the instant he saw the food, he couldn't help but think of the demon fox girl who was squatting in the ruins of the broken temple, holding a piece of rotten vegetable leaf in her mouth and looking at himself from a distance.

  She's still hungry.

Yu Sheng pursed his lips, forced down the many thoughts in his mind, and took out the leftover stew from the morning and two steamed buns.

Let's just heat up leftovers with steamed buns for the evening, and just make some congee along the way.

Putting the steamed buns and stew meat from the refrigerator into the microwave while panning the rice to prepare the porridge, Yu Sheng busied himself in silence and began to regret bringing Irene into the kitchen after half a minute-

This bleeping geezer wasn't idle from the moment he opened the fridge!

"Hey you have a pretty big refrigerator! Can you use such a big refrigerator by yourself?

"That's the meat you stewed this morning, isn't it?... Not to mention, that 'local specialty' looks pretty normal after processing it.... That said, it really doesn't suddenly come to life in the bowl?

"You just cook some porridge ah? Then it's nothing to look at, why don't you take the radish and carve a flower, carve a seal as well.

"Why don't you turn on the hood ... Oh you didn't fry.

"Is it almost dark outside Hey, you turn me around Well, I look at the street ... No just can not.

  "What's your mom's last name?"

Yu Sheng finally couldn't stand it anymore and carried Irene to the front of the pool, "Do you believe me or not I'll soak you in right now! I'll use detergent to brush you until the color comes off!"

Erin instantly scrunched her neck and sat back in her chair with her teddy bear in her arms, "If you don't say it, you don't say it ..."

  The world is finally clear.

Erin returned to the windowsill and sat on a chair with her teddy bear in her arms, looking at Yu Sheng, who was at that moment leaning against the side of the stove in a daze, neither of them saying anything.

After an unknown amount of time, it was Erin who broke the silence first, "I still think it's dangerous to take on 'Hunger' with one person, and while I can't remember exactly how strong that entity is, it's certainly not something an ordinary person could handle, you... . would die."

  "I will be resurrected."

  "I'm telling you seriously!"

  "I'm serious too."

Irene stared at Yu Sheng as if she was a bit angry.

But she was only angry for a few seconds before she sighed.

"Seriously, think of something else, find a way to get in touch with the group in this city that specializes in fighting the Otherworld, you don't want to take any chances."

"I don't want to take any chances, I just think 'danger' will come to me," Yu Sheng shook his head, "but I know what you mean, I won't just send myself to my death, and as for those you say are ' professionals', I'll get to them."

  "Oh, that's good."

Dinner passed in peace, with Erin watching the nutrient-less urban drama on TV, occasionally pontificating on the people and events in the episode, and Yusheng eating thoughtfully, occasionally responding to Erin's bleeps.

This meal, Yu Sheng ate very clean, to the end even the last bit of broth in the bowl did not let go, with steamed buns wiped the edge of the bowl dipped clean.

"I'm going out." After cleaning up the dining room and kitchen, Yu Sheng changed into his clothes for going out and casually said to Erin.

Erin, who was watching TV, looked up instantly at the words, her expression actually carrying a hint of panic, "Where are you going?!"

"Go to the small supermarket at the intersection, buy some food and come back, it's not far," Yu Sheng said, noticing the expression on Eileen's face, a little bit of crying and laughing, "Don't be so nervous, it's not like I'm going to fall into an alien realm every time I go out of the house ... Don't worry, this house is a bit weird, but I'll observe it first every time I open the door afterward."

"Uh, okay," Erin scratched her hair and was a little puzzled again, "but I saw there was quite a bit of stuff in the fridge earlier."

"I'll get some more," said Yusheng, "something that doesn't need to be stored in the refrigerator and is conveniently ready to eat."

Erin understood.

"Oh, that's good, then you go out and be careful ... Never remember to open the door and then don't go straight out again ah! Look outside first!"

  Yusheng laughed.

It had been a long time since anyone had told him, "Be careful out there," and it felt good to know that this time it was a doll who usually talked trash.

He changed his clothes, then thought better of it and stuffed several more pieces of bread and crackers into his shirt pockets before making his way to the front door, hand on the knob, and sucking in a soft breath.

Seriously, since the last time he pushed open this door and fell directly into the otherworldly realm, he did have so much ... shadow on this door.

But that can't be why you never leave the house.

Yusheng gritted his teeth and slowly pushed open the door.

First, he opened a crack, then opened it wider, cautiously observing what was going on outside.

After a long time of double-checking, he let out a long breath and stepped out of the house.

Fortunately, that door is not that evil.

It doesn't seem to be a high probability of falling into the Otherworld after coming out of that house, maybe there are specific conditions that need to be met in order to trigger some kind of "effect" of that door? Maybe the door needs to be opened a few times, or at a specific point in time?

As Yu Sheng walked down the street, he couldn't help but think about things after his mind had settled down a bit, but no matter what, he was really relieved.

With that, he walked briskly on his feet through streets with few passersby, and it wasn't long before he came to the mini-mart at the intersection and pushed the door open.

The moment he pushed the door, he had felt a jolt in his heart, and then--

A hot wind was blowing, the scorched earth across from the door was steaming, a crashed craft was billowing smoke from a distant hill, and two heavily armed men in some kind of black power armor that looked like Alien Battle Armor were wrestling, one of them suddenly raised his hand, and with a snort, a blade of plasma light flared up from his wrist and stabbed at the opposite side of the room. He stabbed at the opposite side.

And then, the two black canned men dressed as if they were Star Realm mercenaries seemed to notice the gaze from the side at the same time, turning their heads violently to look at Yu Sheng, the dark red monitors on their face armor flickering with shimmering light.

  Yusheng: "...?"

He jerked back a step and slammed the door.

Chapter 30: The Door Opener

The door of the mini-mart slammed shut, isolating the searing heat from that scorched earth planet and the sudden burst of murderous intent from the two black-armored soldiers, and Yu Sheng stood silently in the doorway, a bit dazed.

He froze for several seconds before he took a sharp intake of breath, then craned his head to look around.

There weren't many passersby on the street, and the occasional person who walked by seemed to have completely missed the abnormality on this side, only Yu Sheng had faced the bizarre scene that came straight to his face a few seconds ago, and at this moment he was still standing in the wind and messing up.

After messing around for a while, only then did Yu Sheng slowly turn back to look at the front of the mini-mart again.

He has been here more than once in the past two months, this small supermarket in the old town does not have much, but the basic daily necessities and rice, flour, grain and oil are still complete, the owner of the supermarket is a young couple, Yu Sheng is now also a little familiar with them.

The face of the small supermarket is nothing special, is the kind of ordinary ground floor stores, the street side has a large glass window, almost all kinds of promotional information and piled up in the glass behind the shelves of small goods crowded, the glass door of the axle is not very good, the corresponding half of the door is labeled with "the door has been broken" A4 paper, you can see through the door some of the crowded shelves inside, as well as the boss is moving things next to the shelves. Through the door, you can see some crowded shelves inside, and the owner who is moving things next to the shelves.

It looked perfectly normal, and it couldn't have been a more normal sight.

But Yu Sheng would never think of what he had just seen as a hallucination - he still felt the hot, slightly sulfurous scent lingering in his nostrils.

He almost took a step over there, but fortunately the aftermath of his previous fall into the Otherworld was still there, making him a bit nervous and sensitive not only to the front door of his house, but even to any door, always subconsciously hesitating to take a step after opening the door, while the other reason that made him hesitate at the door was the ... feeling he felt in the back of his mind in the moment of opening the door "a jolt".

Yu Sheng stood at the door of the supermarket and fixed his mind, and after a few moments of deep thought, he once again reached out his hand to hold the door handle, and then exerted a little force to push the door open a little, and then probed his head to look inside.

Inside, it was a pretty normal supermarket, and there weren't many people at this time of day; the owner was still busy behind the shelves, and didn't seem to notice the commotion at the door.

Yu Sheng retreated back and closed the door again, followed by gripping the door handle with force, taking a deep breath, gritting his teeth as if he was fighting with himself, and pushing it open with a fierce hand.

A tall, blonde-haired woman wearing a silver and white robed dress stood on a platform across from the door and turned her head in surprise to look at Yu Sheng.

She was beautiful, but the ears beneath her blonde hair were not human-like, but elegantly thin and pointed - and several other shimmering, shimmering tubes and data wires extended out from behind her ears and connected behind them.

However, what Yu Sheng cared more about was the wheel-like structure that extended from the hem of the other party's silver-white skirt and robe, as well as the mechanical knuckles on the other party's back that were grasping all sorts of tools and swinging them around in mid-air.

A voice came from somewhere across the door, "... Boss! The customer asked if the ultralight core sent over last week was fixed."

The blonde lady, however, didn't respond, just stared straight at Yu Sheng who was standing in the doorway, and finally let out a yell after holding her breath-

"How the fuck did you get in here?!"

Yusheng closed the door with a thud.

But the next second he violently pushed the door open again--because he hadn't seen it earlier, and it was an elf on the other side of that door? It was the first time in his life that he had seen an elf! Was it an elf or not? Is there something wrong with the style of the painting?

The door opened, a small child wearing brown rough cloth Taoist robes and Yu Sheng face to face, a circle of smoke and fire around the door frame, the small child holding up a fan in his hand is halfway to the fan, eyes glaring with the same as to pop out.

The next second, Yu Sheng has not yet opened his mouth, the little boy as if he had seen a ghost to throw the fan, jumping and shouting all the way to the outside: "Master! Master! Eldest Brother has succeeded! Big Brother's furnace has produced a human head! It has a nose and eyes! He can still breathe!"

  "I TM ..."

Yusheng let out a gasp of surprise and slammed the door shut as hard as he could, jerking back several steps before he could stand still.

He looked back down the road again, and noticed a few passersby looking this way suspiciously - but they seemed to have only seen Yu Sheng's strange behavior, as the door was closed quickly, and no one had noticed the door.

Yu Sheng could only hurriedly adjust his expression, pretending to act as if nothing had happened to him for the time being, waiting for no one to pay attention to himself before he took several hard breaths and stood on the street corner in a bit of a daze and began to think about life.

Things were so confusing and evil that he didn't even know if he should count this moment as a stunned moment or a triple vision or a hijacking, all he knew was that it was like twelve storms had been set off in his head-or maybe there were two hundred Erins beeping at the same time, buzzing and rumbling all kinds of jumbled up thoughts across his mind, and he didn't come back to himself for seven or eight whole minutes. He didn't come back to his senses for seven or eight minutes.

But there was one thing he quickly ascertained.

Those across the door ... are not exotic.

At least the place where the elf beauty styled like a mechanical freak and the Taoist child holding a fan are located is by no means an exotic place, and as for the two mighty soldiers in power armor who were obviously in a firefight at the beginning ... their surroundings are hostile, and it's hard to say if they're exotic or not... ...

After a long time, Yu Sheng's disorganized head finally calmed down, and the crazy raging various conjectural thoughts were forcefully sorted out and suppressed by him, then he lowered his head and glanced at his hands.

Hesitantly, he slowly reached out, probing aside--

He was standing on the corner of the street at the moment, next to nothing but a wall, a bare concrete block wall.

He rubbed the bare, rough wall and shook his hand slowly, imagining ... a door there.

Just as he had found the hidden doorknob at the end of the hallway in his home, outside the door of the room where he had found Irene, just as he had subconsciously grasped at the air as he had been flung into the air by the monster in that valley in the middle of the night, pulling open the door back to the real world out of thin air-

  He touched it, a door.

He couldn't see it, but the door appeared, and he took hold of the handle, whereupon it began to gradually materialize, to gradually position itself, and he turned his head slowly with a stiff expression - the door shimmered in his field of vision, as if it could be easily opened in the next second.

  "Hell no crouch!"

Yu Sheng let out a low voice of alarm, and as he tensed, his hand also subconsciously loosened, and the "door" instantly and silently dissipated on the wall.

Yu Sheng's heart thumped wildly, like it would pop right out of his mouth the next second.

He took several deep breaths before calming down, and tugged at the corner of his mouth as he recalled the feeling of grabbing the doorknob just now.

"Erin." He called mentally, with ... a complexity of feeling and hesitation he couldn't even say he understood.

"Hey?" Erin's voice immediately then rang, as always lighthearted, "I just wanted to contact you, you have gone out for quite a while, did not say that the supermarket is just at the intersection?... too many things to buy?"

Yusheng: "... I haven't gone in the supermarket yet."

  Erin: "Are you lost?"

"I'm just telling you that I shouldn't be thinking about moving anymore." Yusheng said, not caring about Erin's off-key conjecture.

"Huh? Really?" Erin sounded a little happy, but a little curious, "Why? Didn't you say you thought this house wasn't right? Especially since you can't open the door without pointing at what you're going to be 'thrown' into ..."

"Nothing, I just suddenly realized ... that in this biggest problem, what is wrong may not be the house," Yu Sheng sighed, "what is wrong seems to be me."

  Erin: "...?"

She didn't say anything, but Yu Sheng's imagination could picture the doll's expression of a question mark in her head at this point.

"It's a bit complicated to explain, anyway, you don't need to worry about moving anymore," Yu Sheng leaned against the wall and rubbed his forehead, "I'll talk to you afterward if ... I get the chance."

Irene's curiosity was overflowing, but she sensed that Yu Sheng didn't seem to want to continue explaining in detail, so she just let out an "oh".

Yu Sheng then ended his conversation with Erin.

He did not disclose to the other party in detail the specifics of his "open door", not because of other concerns, but mainly because his own thoughts are now very chaotic, and many details about the "open door" time have not yet had time to think carefully! --At that time, the situation was too chaotic, he overlooked many details, and afterwards he needed to slowly recall and organize.

Yu Sheng decided to wait until he went back to slow down a bit before communicating with Irene about this matter.

Of course, he also knew that even if he told Erin, the other party should be just as confused as he was, and then follow a piece of confusion, but no matter what, it was better to have one more person to consult with than to fumble around blindly on his own.

That mannequin had at least a little knowledge of the supernatural realm - not much though.

A few minutes later, Yu Sheng walked out of the street corner, refreshed himself in the cooler night breeze, and looked again in the direction of the small supermarket not far away.

After a moment's hesitation, he took a step towards the supermarket.

He decided to finish his shopping for the day - the whole "door" thing was disturbing, but he couldn't just not open any more doors from today onwards.

This time, though, he was extra cautious than any other time as he pushed open the door to the supermarket.

He tried to concentrate, sensing every detail of the opening of the door - from the touch coming from his hand, to the thoughts in his mind, the intuitive reminders, even the sound of the wind around him, the shadows reflected in the glass door ...

If there were any bystanders present at this time, I'm afraid they would feel that Yu Sheng's process of opening the door was like slow motion.

And then the supermarket door opened.

Between the slightly crowded shelves, the young shopkeeper looked up and smiled after seeing Yu Sheng: "Oh, what do you want to buy?"
