Chapter 8 - Everyone in G City Knows

When Housekeeper Zhang and her son, Xiao Liu, delivered the food to the hospital, Wen Ran was alone outside the operating room.

She took the food out of the thermal box and said gently, "This food was sent by Young Master and Young Madam. Please have a little bit."

Wen Ran's clear eyes widened in surprise—had Mo Xiuchen really left because he had something to do, and then arranged for Housekeeper Zhang to deliver food?

She raised her hand to wipe her eyes and shook her head, "Thank you, Housekeeper Zhang, but I can't eat this. Please take it to Mo Xiuchen; he hasn't had dinner either."

"Young Madam, Young Master is busy. He made sure we brought you something to eat. I've been by his side all these years and have never seen him care so much about any girl. You should eat a little, at least."

Wen Ran truly had no appetite, but she couldn't resist Housekeeper Zhang's nagging, so she reluctantly agreed—eating a small bowl of rice and a bowl of soup without enjoying the taste.

Mo Xiuchen seemed to have timed it perfectly, returning just before Wen Jin's surgery was finished.

Wen Ran said thank you to him, but he didn't speak. Instead, his gaze swept indifferently over her stomach, and then his brows furrowed slightly.

Housekeeper Zhang had just called him to report that Wen Ran had eaten only a small bowl of rice. No wonder she was so thin—her appetite was like that of a cat.

A short while later, the operating room door opened, and Dr. Gu Kai, clad in his surgical gown and looking exhausted, walked out. Before Wen Ran could speak, he proactively informed her, "The surgery was very successful. The patient is not in immediate danger, but as before, when he will wake up remains unknown."

A spark of relief flashed in Wen Ran's eyes as the tight chord in her heart loosened a little.

When Dr. Gu had told her the same words a week ago, she had been overwhelmed with grief. But now, she could accept it calmly. Her brother had made it through the toughest times, and she believed he would wake up.

She looked at Dr. Gu gratefully and said, "Thank you, Doctor Gu!"

"The patient has been transferred via a sterile channel to the ICU for monitoring. You can go take a look."

Dr. Gu nodded, a gentle warmth coloring his features. For some reason, despite having only known this girl for a few days, he felt an indescribable emotion toward her—perhaps because she was around the same age as his sister.

"Alright!"

Not forgetting the man beside her, Wen Ran said a brief "Alright," then turned to Mo Xiuchen, "You can go back. I'll stay here with my brother tonight."

Mo Xiuchen's brows furrowed slightly. His thin lips parted as he spoke in a low, commanding tone that brooked no argument, "At most half an hour. I'll wait for you in Ah Kai's office."

There was a nurse here; she didn't need to guard the room all night.

Wen Ran's face changed; she wanted to refuse, but after thinking for a moment she pressed her lips together tightly, swallowed her words, turned, and hurried toward the ICU.

Watching Wen Ran quickly depart, Dr. Gu squinted his eyes and, with a curious glance at Mo Xiuchen's cool, handsome face, a playful smile tugged at his lips. With a hint of meaning, he said, "Xiuchen, you won't let her stay with her brother in the ward, are you trying to have your wedding night early? If I'm not mistaken, everyone in G City knows that Mo Xiuchen is 'incapable' in bed!"

Mo Xiuchen glared at him coldly and replied in a flat tone, "Go to your office."

Dr. Gu raised an eyebrow and replied cheerfully, "No problem. Come to my office, and you'd better explain yourself—what kind of game is this?"
