Chapter 29 - What Was Found

"Mm, I know."

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Mo Xiuchen's voice came through, subtly tinged with an emotion that hadn't been present in his previous words.

Wen Ran then added a couple more reminders—words all about taking care of himself while he was away. She truly regarded him as the dearest person besides her brother; hence, her words were filled with genuine concern.

Mo Xiuchen, sitting in the back seat of the car, responded intermittently with "Mm" or "Alright," his once sharp features now softened with a gentle warmth. This sight made Qin Mu, sitting nearby, widen his eyes in disbelief—he could hardly imagine that the man who was usually as cold as ice could ever have a moment of springtime warmth.

After Mo Xiuchen hung up the phone, Qin Mu couldn't help but ask curiously, "Xiuchen, regarding H City, you really don't have to go there in person. As for the medicines, Ah Feng will handle that. And about investigating Cheng Jia's background, I promise to get you a complete report…"

Mo Xiuchen put his phone away, glanced at him, and replied nonchalantly, "No need. There are some things I'd rather find out for myself."

Qin Mu scoffed and said, "I just don't understand—you've been searching for years, isn't it all to find the savior who once saved your life, so that you could return the favor with your body? Now that Cheng Jia fits the bill in every way, why are you so eager to dismiss her?"

Mo Xiuchen's deep, dark eyes shifted slightly, and then he spoke again, his voice now edged with coldness, "My trip to H City isn't entirely for personal reasons. Over there, on the matter of the medicines, Ah Feng might not handle things properly. With Xiao Wenqing so impatient, how could I not accommodate her?"

He had waited for years—all for Xiao Wenqing to finally make a move. Now that she was taking over the G City pharmaceutical factory, it wasn't hard to imagine her true intentions…

A flash of cold determination passed through his eyes as he added gravely, "Keep an eye on the Wen family; especially Zhou Mingfu. He's sure to make another move."

Qin Mu nodded, "Don't worry—I won't let Wen Ran lose a single hair."

Mo Xiuchen grunted in acknowledgment and, after a moment's thought, continued, "Find something for Mo Zixuan to do. Don't let him be idle."

Xiao Wenqing had arranged for him to leave G City. Even though he left as she desired, he couldn't help but feel the need to repay her in some way.

A confident smirk curled at Qin Mu's lips as he replied, "That's easy enough—I guarantee that during the days you're away, Mo Zixuan won't be able to get away from work."

For the next week, Wen Ran did not see Mo Zixuan at all.

Zhou Mingfu, for reasons unknown, didn't trouble Wen Ran any further. Instead, Zhou Lin approached her once, inviting her for coffee—an invitation Wen Ran declined.

Every day, Wen Ran's life revolved around the company, the hospital, and home; occasionally she would speak with Mo Xiuchen on the phone, and in that way her days felt rather full.

Then, one morning, just as Wen Ran returned to her office from the workshop, her phone rang.

The caller ID showed the police station's number that she had saved long ago. She paused for a moment before pressing the answer button, "Hello, Officer Li."

"Miss Wen, I'm calling to inform you that the stranger who appeared in the hotel parking lot on the day of the accident has been found. However, what was found is a corpse."

Wen Ran was shocked and blurted, "A corpse? How could that be?"

That stranger at the hotel parking lot was the only clue—a man who had tampered with her father's car, which had led to that terrible accident.

Originally, her brother also owned a car, but Zhou Mingfu had borrowed it at the last minute, which is why her entire family ended up riding in her father's car…

A pale hue spread across Wen Ran's delicate face as she pressed her lips tightly together and asked, "Besides that, are there any other clues?"
