One year before the official start of To Love-Ru and High School DxD...
The passage of time had brought silent yet profound changes to the supernatural world. In Heaven, the Presence continued to make meticulous adjustments, like a skilled craftsman refining his masterpiece. Each intervention was made with care, remaining hidden in the shadows of divine existence, and although no angel or seraph knew the face behind these acts, everyone clearly sensed that something powerful had taken command.
Yuki Rito, now sixteen years old, still lived an apparently normal life in Sainan. He went to school, looked after his little sister Mikan, and coped with the constant absence of their parents, whose distance only seemed to grow with time. But Rito was no longer the same insecure boy. Inside him lived the absolute power of the Presence—something he decided to keep under lock and key, acting with discreet efficiency. Still, no matter how hard he tried, his very existence radiated a calming aura, perceptible even to those who didn't understand what it was.
In Heaven, Michael observed the changes with satisfaction. The Brave Saints had become popular among the angels, encouraging them to take on responsibilities and make their own choices with pride and joy. The old rules, rigid as iron chains, were now being replaced by new guidelines that allowed emotional freedom and genuine relationships. Gabriel seemed happier, Uriel less tense, and even Raphael wore a discreet smile when no one was watching.
The prayers of humans, which once echoed in tones of despair, were now filled with gratitude, as if humanity was slowly regaining a healthier faith, no longer based on fear. It was as if Heaven had finally found the perfect recipe for a delicate balance where duty and love could coexist without internal conflict.
Grigori had changed too. Azazel, with his irreverent spirit, never missed a chance to celebrate each small positive transformation in Heaven. The Cadres, once worried about the chaotic impact of celestial changes, were now beginning to realize that the overall balance of the world was being strengthened by this new approach.
— "Ah, how I'd love to shake the hand of that mysterious guy who took over Heaven!" — Azazel would laugh, with Baraqiel sighing beside him, though no longer with the same concern.
In the Underworld, the Four Great Satans also felt the improvements firsthand. The old devils of the Diabolic Council still complained like stubborn children, but now their whining was almost automatically ignored. Sirzechs Lucifer and Ajuka Beelzebub focused on strengthening peaceful relations with other factions, taking advantage of the new era of cooperation indirectly created by the Presence.
— "These are interesting times," — Sirzechs admitted with a thoughtful expression. — "I don't know who he is, but the new ruler of Heaven has brought a harmony I never thought we'd see in our chaotic existence."
Meanwhile, in Olympus, Zeus had stopped grumbling so much and had slowly begun to see the benefits brought by the new celestial order. Even Athena smiled discreetly, watching her father finally admit that maybe not all change was bad.
— "Seems you were right, daughter," — he admitted begrudgingly, arms crossed and wearing a sulky expression, though resigned to the inevitable evolution of things.
Odin, in his cold wisdom, also sensed that the world was flowing in the right direction. His ravens, Huginn and Muninn, brought increasingly promising news about the strengthening of harmony among supernatural factions.
— "Yes, it truly seems like the time has come for old traditions to make way for the new," — Odin whispered, stroking his long beard while gazing at the icy horizon with a wise smile on his lips.
In India, Shiva and Vishnu observed the evolution of these changes with attentive eyes. The balance of the universe finally seemed to be reaching a healthier and more stable point.
— "Who would've thought, huh?" — Shiva chuckled softly, his eyes gleaming with rare excitement. — "A being no one knows, bringing balance with an almost artistic touch. Feels like destiny."
Rito, on the other hand, knew exactly what was happening but remained silent. His days in Sainan passed peacefully, while he managed his actions with care, allowing positive consequences to arise naturally, without force.
One night, sitting on his rooftop, he gazed at the starry sky with a calm expression, feeling the weight and responsibility of his true nature. The gentle breeze tousled his hair, bringing the scent of wildflowers that filled his chest with a deep sense of serenity.
— "Yeah, seems I managed to fix a few things this time…" — he murmured with a modest smile, knowing that, though the world still faced future challenges, the overall situation had improved considerably.
Life went on as always, but now with a lighter, more hopeful rhythm. Humanity felt it, the supernatural beings felt it, and even the most powerful creatures from various pantheons and factions understood that a quiet, kind force was working behind the scenes.
Yet one question still lingered in every heart, in every mind:
Who, after all, was the one operating in the shadow of reality, capable of bringing such grand changes without revealing even a name?
But maybe that was exactly the answer everyone needed: a Presence whose identity mattered less than the actions taken. After all, true power lies in this— not in being seen or recognized, but in doing what is right simply because it is possible.
With that thought softly echoing in his mind, Yuki Rito took a deep breath and closed his eyes, enjoying the quiet night.
Because deep down, what really mattered was the future — not the one who created it.
Mikan was leaning on the doorframe, a mischievous smile on her lips and arms crossed, watching closely as Yuki frantically searched for his school uniform in the mess of his room.
— "Hey, Onii-chan…" she began, with a tone far too casual to be innocent.
— "What is it, Mikan? I'm busy here!" — Rito grumbled, rummaging through drawers with even more urgency.
— "Off to meet your girlfriend, huh?" — she teased, laughing quietly as her brother's face turned red in an instant.
— "W-what?! What are you talking about, brat?!" — he stuttered, almost tripping over his own words while tugging a shirt off the chair.
— "Oh, I don't know. Maybe Haruna-san, who keeps coming here to pick you up in the morning." — Mikan said, barely containing her grin as Rito's panic grew. — "And, y'know, not for nothing, but she even makes your lunch now. Kinda suspicious…"
Rito froze, holding the shirt like time had stopped.
— "S-she's just being nice, okay? We're just friends!" — he argued, trying to hide his blushing face by turning to the wardrobe.
— "Nice, huh? Sure, I'll pretend to believe that." — Mikan stepped closer, her voice playful. — "So? When are you gonna tell her you're totally in love? Or are you waiting for her to make the first move?"
— "Hey! Who said I'm in love?!" — Yuki spun around, face on fire, pointing dramatically at his sister, who laughed even harder.
— "Oh, just your super red face, your dopey look whenever she shows up, your stammering every time you talk to her, or… I don't know, the fact that you sigh all day like some shoujo anime character."
— "I do not do that!" — he protested, even though it was very clear he absolutely did.
Mikan burst into laughter, walking over and placing a hand on her big brother's shoulder with a fake-serious expression.
— "Look, Rito, if you keep taking this long, some other guy's gonna beat you to her, y'know? She is really pretty and super popular, after all."
Rito went pale instantly, eyes wide in pure panic.
— "Ahhh! Don't even joke about that, Mikan!"
She laughed again, backing away with a satisfied look.
— "Okay, okay, I won't say anything else. Just don't be late for school. I bet your dear Haruna-chan is already waiting downstairs all anxious…"
Before he could answer, Mikan had already shut the door behind her, leaving a flustered and overwhelmed Rito alone in the middle of an even messier room, his heart racing.
