Chapter 21 - 20. Fear

Mamako was confused but quickly shook her head and followed after the cat since she had promised her son that she would bring the Cat to him.

The cat moved under the Bridge making Mamako feel a bit nervous as it was a bit dark there, but her breath hitched when she seemed to notice something.

"A-A person?" Mamako exclaimed out loud as she noticed a small silhouette curled up under the bridge and when the cat got near it, it moved.

Mamako shone her flashlight under the bridge and her breathing got faster as she saw what seemed like a child huddled under the bridge.

The speed of her steps increased as she nearly ran towards the child.....

.....

The cold and hunger had already made the boy delirious as he found it difficult to maintain conciousness.

Hearing the sudden noise of approaching footsteps the boy forced himself to stay awake as he gazed at the approaching silhouette that became clearer with each second.

For a moment the figure seemed to overlap with someone from his memories making him blurt out in a daze before succumbing to exhaustion.....

...

"M-Mom?" A weak voice floated into Mamako's ears making her petrified as she turned her attention to the child who was gazing at her with his innocent eyes filled with hope as his expression was one of uncertainty and confusion.

Mamako was petrified by the child's words and his gaze.

Something seemed to resonate within her as she felt her heart clench at the sight of the emancipated child.

Now that she was near, she could get a good look at the small child , whose clothes appeared torn, and his body looked so frail and thin.

She could even see the trembling of his body from the cold, making Mamako quickly take off her coat and wrap it around the child.

Mamako had a serious expression on her face as she picked up the child who barely weighed anything.

Her son was also about the same size but the child in her arms was so thin and frail that she could see his sunken cheeks and bones.

While Mamako picked up the child the Cat who was watching them slowly moved further into the darkness , it took one last look at the child as it's golden yellow eyes glowed with intelligence.....

....

The boy's conciousness was hazy as he felt a cool sensation on his lips making him unconsciously use his tongue to lick his lips.

'Water!'

It was just normal water but to the boy it almost tasted like sweet nectar as he opened his lips while greedily drinking the water like a traveller form the desert.

His condition was no different from that, as he had been severely dehydrated and starving.

*Cough!* *Cough!*

But due to his haste he accidentally choked on the water causing him to cough violently while water flowed from his mouth and nose.

But during all of this he felt a warm hand caressing his back reducing his discomfort.

His vision was still a bit blurry due to exhaustion but it was gradually getting better.

So,when his vision cleared up he could see exactly where he was.

He concluded that he must be in a hospital as he was lying on a white bed surrounded by white walls with an IV drip strapped on to his wrist.

But what surprised him most was the woman who was rubbing his back with a worried and kind expression on her face.

He didn't know why, but feeling kindness from this random stranger after living 3 years of his life being treated like garbage made his eyes tear up.....

....

"A-Ah Why are you crying ? Did I do something?" Mamako who was rubbing the child's back was suddenly flustered when she noticed him starting to cry.

She couldn't help but think that it was her fault as whenever her son cried she would always blame herself....

...

"N-No! I am not crying! It's just some dust that got in my eyes" The boy said in a flustered tone as he rubbed his eyes in frustration but the tears just wouldn't stop.

All the grievance he had accumulated over the past 3 years seemed to have exploded in an instant just like the flood gates of a Dam.

It just wouldn't wouldn't stop no matter how hard he tried to prevent it.

'Stop crying! Your not a child! Pathetic!' The boy screamed inside his mind as he wanted the tears to stop but in the end his body and mind just wouldn't listen.

Being reincarnated and dealt such a shitty hand from birth , he couldn't prevent the sadness from seeping out even if he wanted to.

Suddenly he was pulled into a warm embrace making his movements stiffen as he tried to wriggle in protest.

"Shhh~ It's allright ~ Let it all out " He heard the woman's kind and gentle words as she soothingly rubbed his back and head.

Those words seemed to be trigger for him as he couldn't help but cling to the hope and kindness he had recieved in all 3 years of his new life.

He sobbed , cried and wailed like a heartbroken child.....

....

"A-Ah! I am sorry for making your clothes dirty!" The boy had a fearful expression on his face as he tried to move away from the comforting softeness although he felt reluctant.

" It's allright ~ " The woman's gentle words made the boy bite his lips in conflict and a bit of fear.

He had been used to being treated like trash for 3 years so suddenly getting treated kindly made him uncomfortable because he feared this might all be a dream....

...

Mamako was completely oblivious to the thoughts of the child in her arms she just felt her protective and motherly instincts flare up when she watched the conflicted expression on the boy's face.

She gently careseed his face before lifting it slightly to look him in the eye.

" My name is Mamako... What's yours ? " Mamako smiled gently as she gazed at the frail child.

"R-Rin " ....
