Mira's body was still shaking, and the shocking revelation disturbed her mind. Her body was changing; she could feel it. Her chest was becoming warm, and her muscles were reacting to everything happening around her, it was like something inside her had started a new life, something original.
Dane stood opposite her, his look was steady but filled with an emotion Mira couldn't understand. It wasn't pity, but something else, something much more complicated. As she tried to breathe well, she looked down at her hands, trying to stretch her fingers. They felt stronger, and more responsive than before.
"What's happening to me?" she asked while speaking gently with herself.
Dane sighed, moving his hand to straighten his hair. He didn't seem surprised by her question, but Mira noticed the tension in his jaw. "You're becoming one of us like I said earlier," he said, his voice low. "A werewolf."
Mira's heart seized immediately. She looked straight at him and nodded to object, she wasn't willing to accept it. "No, this can't be real. I can't be one of you or them."
Dane's expression softened slightly, but his eyes remained fixed. "It's the truth, Mira. You've been bitten by a rogue werewolf. You're in the middle of something much bigger than you realize."
The words didn't make sense to her but they remained the truth concerning what she was feeling with her body changing. Mira wanted to argue and deny it, but the unexpected change she was experiencing in her body made it harder to forget. Her heartbeat was beating too fast, her senses too sharp. It was all very real.
"Who really are you?" Mira asked, her voice filled with a mix of confusion and anger. "What do you want from me?"
Dane hesitated, and for the first time, Mira saw a flash of something like vulnerability, in his eyes. " like I said am the Alpha of the city's pack, the werewolf world is divided into factions" he explained. "That means I'm responsible for maintaining order among werewolves. But things are changing. There are sets of rogue uprisings, and you're right in the middle of it."
"A rogue uprising?" Mira repeated, trying to understand the words. "What does that mean? And how does it all involve me?"
Dane took a deep breath and sat down facing her, his eyes were fixed on hers. ," he began. "There's the Alpha Pack, the one I lead, and then there are the rogues, werewolves who live outside the laws, outside the structure. They've been increasing in number, and they're getting more dangerous. They don't want to live under the rule of the Alpha Pack anymore. They want freedom. And they'll do anything to get it."
Mira's mind raced. The rogues were dangerous, she understood that. But how did it concern her?
"You're are an important part in all of this, Mira," Dane said, his voice was but filled with urgency. "You're not just any human. There's something in your bloodline that connects you to the rogue uprising. Something very old. And that's why they want you."
"I don't understand, I am just a journalist, and I don't know anything about all this happening. Why would they want me?" she said with a fear in her voice
Dane's expression turned serious. "There's a prophecy. It says that a human, someone from a bloodline tied to the rogues, will either bring about their downfall or lead them to victory. The rogues believe you are that person, Mira."
Mira's pulse increased, and she felt a shiver all over her body. "So, what? They think I can control the outcome of this war?"
Dane nodded, his eyes remained on hers. "Yes. And that's why they've been following you. They think you can lead them, that you can help them rise up and defeat the Alpha Pack. But that's not what I want for you. I want to protect you. You don't belong in their war."
Mira sat back, her mind filled with lots of questions. She could barely understand what Dane's revelation was throwing at her. The thought of finding herself in the middle of a werewolf uprising was scary at least for her. She was just a journalist, how could she possibly be an important member of something this serious and dangerous?
"But if I'm not part of this war, why did they attack me? Why did the rogue bite me?" She asked.
"That's what I need to find out, But you're not safe here. The rogues won't stop until they get you. They'll come after you again, Mira." Dane said.
Mira's heart kept beating fast, and for the first time, she truly understood how serious everything was. She wasn't just doing her journalist work on a story anymore. She was the main part of it.
Dane was right about one thing: she wasn't just a reporter anymore. She was now a part of the war. But, she wasn't ready to allow anyone to instruct her on what to do.
"I'm not going to hide," Mira said firmly while turning back to face him. "I won't be your player, Dane. I'll find my way out of this."
Dane looked at her, his expression unreadable. For a moment, Mira thought Dane was going to say something that would change her mind. Instead, he just nodded. "I won't stop you. But I won't let you do it alone either."
Mira wasn't sure about trusting him right now, she didn't have much choice anyway.
Before she could respond, she heard a small noise coming from where she didn't know. She felt something inside her and immediately looked down at her wrist, a warm feeling took over her while something was spreading across the skin on her wrist. She froze.
"What's happening?" she said to herself.
Dane stepped closer, his eyes sharp. "What is it?"
Mira didn't answer immediately. She felt something on her wrist that was getting stronger, it felt like it was trying to come alive. She pulled up her shirt and looked at her wrist with shock. A symbol was shining, and it was carved on her skin. It was a circle with strange drawings around it, something she had never seen before.
Her breath seized in her throat. The symbol looked very old, powerful, and dangerous. And for the first time, Mira understood why the rogues were after her. They didn't just want her because of a prophecy. They wanted the power that the symbol represented.
Dane's face hardened. "That symbol, it's connected to the rogues. It's a very old mark. If it's shining, that means they're watching you."
Mira felt fear increase in her chest. The symbol was shining brighter now as if it was reacting to what was happening around her.
"I don't know what to do," she asked with a shaking voice.
Mira stood with her heart beating fast, she realized that her life seemed changed forever. The symbol on her wrist was a signal, calling the rogues to her. And no matter how much she wanted to walk away, she was already in the middle of this war. There was no turning back.
As the symbol on her wrist continued to shine brighter, Mira felt a level of power moving through her. The world around her seemed to shift as if everything was being drawn closer for her to focus. But it wasn't just the symbol. Something else, something dark was getting closer to her. And it was coming fast.
