Mira was still trying to breathe well when Dane appeared. She had just fought off and defeated the rogue werewolf in the alley, but something else had happened to her, making her feel like she was not in control of her body. Her skin was still burning due to the bite, but it was not just pain. It was as if something had changed inside her. She did not know what was happening to her, but she could not just allow it without getting answers.
Dane's voice came out from anywhere and interrupted her thoughts.
"Come with me," he said. His voice was full of urgency and not anger. "You are not safe here. You need to come with me."
Mira's head turned, and she retreated one step. "I don't trust you. You are one of them."
But on the other hand, she did not have many options.
Dane didn't react to her words. His eyes were calm and steady. He looked like he wasn't telling her everything like there were still things left underneath the present look.
"Do you want to stay here and get attacked again? Do you want to die?" Dane's words surprised her, but they were also truthful.
Mira hesitated. She was confused. She wanted to keep her distance from Dane. She didn't know anything about him except that he was part of the werewolf world she had been trying to expose. But on the other hand, she didn't have many options.
The rogue werewolves weren't just after her death, they were after something more. Mira could feel it in her bones. The attack had been too calculated, too quick.
"I am not after your trust but, I am the only one who can protect you now," he said with a calm voice.
Mira knew he was saying the truth even when it wasn't what she wanted to hear. She didn't have many options. There was no time to be stubborn. She needed to stay alive.
"Fine," she uttered, her voice very low.
Dane didn't waste any time. He pointed for her to follow him. Mira looked around the alley one last time, her senses still filled with unease. The world seemed distant and unfocused. She wasn't certain whether the attack or another factor was to blame.
while walking with Dane in the street, she could perceive any scent available even the food in the far distant restaurant, all the sound became clearer to her and she could see farther than expected. The only thing that felt real was the sound of her heart beating fast in her chest and the heat that was coming out from her body.
Walking to Dane's personal property seemed as if it was taking forever. They move quickly, passing through empty roads and narrow streets. Mira's head was moving, and her body was still shaking with the insistence of the attack. But something else was happening to her.
Her senses were sharp. The colors of the city's lights looked bright and more vivid. The air smells differently such as if she can smell every air available, fresh rain, gasoline, and cooking from a nearby restaurant. Her eyes moved into the shadow, and she could feel that her body was reacting to everything as if she was ready for an attack at any moment.
"Are you okay?" Dane asked, looking at her over his shoulder.
"I'm fine," Mira said. She didn't know what was happening to her, but she could feel changes. They were happening very fast for her to understand.
Mira was surprised when they finally reached the property. It was not just a mansion - it was a fortress. The gates were long, made of black iron, and they got open as soon as they reached there with Dane. There were guards in every corner of the property, their eyes were sharp and firm.
Dane took her and moved through beautiful plains, preciously treated gardens, and long stone routes until they reached a large, tall building. It was filled with modern, smooth glass windows that seemed to shine with a faint light.
Inside, the place was also beautiful. The walls were constructed with dark wood, and the floors were designed with beautiful rugs. The furniture was simple but fantastic, and the atmosphere was calm.
Dane led Mira into a sitting room and gave a sign for her to sit. She obeyed, even when she wasn't sure of what to think of him.
"Relax," Dane said as he sat down facing her. "You're safe here."
Mira wanted to believe him, but the continuous feeling that something was wrong wouldn't leave her mind. Her mind was still racing, her head was still not at ease, and she suspected Dane wasn't telling her the whole truth. But she doesn't have many options at the moment.
"So," she started, attempting to sound more assured than she actually was. "Now what?"
Dane leaned forward a little, staring at her. We must now have a conversation. You have no idea what's going on in this city. Things that go much deeper than you think."
"You're in the middle of a war, Mira. A war that's been happening under the surface for years."
Mira frowned. "A war? What do you mean? Who and who are involved in the war?"
Dane's eyes softened just a little. "There are rogue werewolves in the city. They've been kidnapping people, using them as a means to gain power. And they're not just any rogues. They're dangerous."
"Why are they after me?" Mira asked with a whisper of her voice.
Dane took a while to respond. He gave her an unfriendly look. "I am still trying to understand it."
Mira sat back and tried to understand what she had just heard. "And how is this connected to you?"
Dane's mouth clenched. "I am the city's Alpha. It is my responsibility to keep it safe. However, I have no control over what is going on anymore and to stop this, I need your assistance."
"Do you feel it?" Dane asked suddenly, his voice low and urgent.
Mira blinked, confused. "Feel what?"
"The change," Dane said, looking straight at her eyes directly. "You're not the same as you used to be before." Something inside you is waking up."
Mire's breath seized immediately. she had not been feeling too well for some time but didn't want to say it out but hearing Dane tell her how she was feeling made her scared
"I have no idea what is happening to me," she said with a low voice.
"You are changing," Dane replied quietly. "You are turning into one of us." Mira's eyes became wide open, and she felt like her heart was beating as faster than it should. "what do you mean?"
Dan got up and went to the window, his back was to her. 'You were attacked by a werewolf and you are now in the process of turning into a werewolf yourself. And that's why you're going through this change.'
It was as if Mira had no air to breathe. Whatever Dane had said, she could sort of understand it, but she didn't want to. She didn't want to be a part of this world. But the pain in her chest was getting worse. Heat, strength, hunger, it was all there, and it was growing inside her, like a storm that she had no way of controlling. 'Stay calm,' Dane told him, his voice a gentle command. 'It's going to be tough. But I will help you.'
Mira turned around for a second, she wasn't sure whether she could trust him. Then she realized something. It was no longer a matter of life or death. She had to decide what she wanted to become and who she wanted to be. As Mira's change continued, her vision was still blurry. Her body kept shaking as she fell to the ground. For the first time in her life, she felt as if the power inside of her was growing, wild, and want to be free.
