Chapter 7 - 1 V 2

While Fortis was still recovering from his injuries, a thought struck Aeron.

"Why isn't he moving? The same thing happened when he threw that door at us—he stayed completely still. Could it be that he can't heal quickly while moving?" Aeron mused inwardly. He knew that one could enhance their regenerative abilities, but this limitation was new to him.

"Healing requires stamina, so his rapid regeneration must be draining him. That explains why he has to remain still to focus on healing and to save stamina," Aeron concluded.

"Hey, Hector, I figured out how his healing works. He can't move while he's healing. Got it?" Aeron asked, making sure Hector understood.

"Yeah" Hector replied, his face lighting up with understanding. He glanced at Fortis and giggled, eyes wide and a grin spreading across his face.

'We always knew this day would come, when we'd have to face a great obstacle. I've always known, hence I was prepared. I'm not running today!' Aeron thought as he coughed up blood.

Aeron leaped forward, throwing the Yari directly at Fortis. Fortis stopped it with both palms, slightly pushed back, still healing his wounds. Aeron yanked the chain while Hector struck it upward with his axe, causing the Yari to fly from Fortis' grip and graze his left eye.

Enraged, Fortis closed the distance between them, swinging his fist at Aeron. Before he could land the hit, Aeron had pulled back the Yari, catching it and thrusting it into Fortis' incoming left fist, piercing through his elbow. Fortis swung his right fist, but Hector blocked it with his axe, pushing him both back.

Aeron pulled the chain again, and Hector struck it upward, dislodging the Yari from Fortis' arm. Furious, Fortis regenerated his damaged arm and eye.

"That's the last time you'll do that," Fortis growled.

"Damn it! I want to keep attacking to break his healing process, but I don't have enough time to plan my moves. I can't afford another injury with these broken ribs. Think, what can we do to turn the tables?" Aeron thought, holding his broken rib and panting.

"Heads up!" a voice called from above. A masked figure leaped across the pitch, throwing a small pouch to Hector and Aeron. "I'm going after their spy!" he said. He wore a black, stealthy outfit and tech boots called XTX Ricochet, which allowed for higher jumps, faster runs, and safe landings.

Hector caught the pouch. "Isn't that Corsair?!" he exclaimed.

"You accurate son of a... timekeeper," Aeron was impressed.

"Hey, big guy, you had better be prepared," Hector warned Fortis.

"It's futile," Fortis replied.
