A man stands in a dark room, surrounded by shadows. Figures shrouded in darkness, yet their eyes pierce through the gloom as they stare at the man giving his report—like judges ready to bring down their hammer if displeased.
The man, wearing a lab coat, is scared. He feels so small under their gaze, yet he continues his report.
"S-So, as you can see, we have detected another energy wave. This energy wave is one of the bigger ones we've seen."
The scientist stands there, waiting for their judgment. One of the shadowy figures waves the man away. The nervous man makes his way out of the room as fast as he can without running.
The room stays silent for only a moment before one of the figures speaks.
"So, what do you think it is?" says a feminine voice, somewhat playfully.
A deeper, more analytical voice responds,
"It could be another dimensional breach. It must first be discovered whether it is a safe-class breach or something requiring a more armed response."
Another responds in a mocking tone,
"It is just like you to want to kill it. Have you forgotten our mission? To Secure, Contain, Protect. It's in our very name. We must study it—dissect it if we must—to know what makes it bleed."
A madness and power contained within that statement makes the darkness grow colder.
A calmer voice speaks up,
"Not that I disagree with you... but the energy readings closely match those of an Awakened human."
The room grows quiet at that statement.
"I might be wrong," the voice adds, as if regretting what was said.
A voice that had stayed quiet until now speaks,
"If you're right, we must act fast. If it mutates, many will die. We cannot let this happen. We fight these monsters so that everyday people can live in peace, so they may have a normal life—"
The voice grows louder as he speaks. The power in his words makes the room shake. He stands from the table like a general about to call his soldiers to war.
A dark feeling settles over the room as the others stare at him in agreement if only for there owne desires
