Can I Wake Up Because I Am Handsome?
Xu Fan awoke to the familiar mechanical voice in his mind, signaling the progress of his sign-in assistant.
1%... 23%...
"Huh?" Xu Fan frowned. He clearly remembered completing a special sign-in task the previous night.
"After successfully deterring the Uchiha clan, sign-in completion has been confirmed."
Xu Fan muttered to himself, recalling the tense encounter. As an elite shinobi, he understood that intelligence was often more valuable than one's own life. His actions had successfully dispelled the concerns of the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, making him abandon any drastic measures against the Hyuga clan.
His thoughts were interrupted as the sign-in assistant's progress bar rapidly increased.
66%... 79%... 100%!
Sign-in complete!
Reward: Immunity to Genjutsu!
Bonus: Byakugan activation!
Xu Fan's eyes widened. Two rewards?
Excitement surged through him. The immunity to genjutsu alone was a game-changer. No illusion—whether Itachi Uchiha's Tsukuyomi or Shisui's Kotoamatsukami—would affect him. He could now face the Uchiha clan's strongest without fear.
He rushed to his dresser, pulling out a mirror. His appearance had changed significantly since he first arrived in this world. Initially, he was somewhat immature, carrying remnants of baby fat. But thanks to rigorous training and a well-nourished diet—courtesy of the dwindling yet wealthy Senju clan—he had grown into a well-defined figure.
"If the kunoichi of Konoha saw me now, they'd probably fall for me at first sight," Xu Fan mused, smirking at his reflection. "Too bad... I'm not interested in romance."
With a deep breath, he activated his Byakugan. His pupils faded to a pearly white, and the signature veins of the Hyuga clan emerged along his temples. Instantly, his vision expanded, granting him a 360-degree view of his surroundings.
However, something unusual caught his attention—a group of figures approaching his home.
"Someone's coming."
He deactivated his Byakugan just as his door burst open.
Swish, swish, swish!
Several masked shinobi in dark cloaks stormed in, assuming battle stances. Leading them was a man Xu Fan recognized all too well—Shimura Danzo.
The man responsible for many of Konoha's darkest deeds.
Danzo's sharp gaze swept the room, quickly locking onto Xu Fan, who stood calmly, still holding his mirror.
Danzo's frown deepened. Before coming here, he had already analyzed the situation. Sarutobi was clearly grooming Xu Fan in the shadows, training him into a powerful asset. And the fact that Xu Fan had easily eliminated an assassination squad without revealing his Mokuton only made him more dangerous.
This man is an enigma.
Danzo instinctively took a step back, signaling his Root operatives to shield him.
"A mirror...?" he muttered. Could it be a disguised weapon? A hidden jutsu? There was no way someone as dangerous as Xu Fan would simply be admiring his own reflection.
"What are you planning to do with that?" Danzo demanded.
Xu Fan sighed, placing the mirror down. "I was just looking at myself after waking up. Is that a crime now?"
Danzo: "???"
Xu Fan's nonchalant demeanor irritated him, but he maintained his composure.
"What do you want, Danzo? Surrounding my home first thing in the morning?" Xu Fan asked, his sharp gaze meeting Danzo's.
Danzo smirked, raising a hand. His operatives lowered their weapons but remained on guard.
"I didn't come as an enemy," Danzo stated. "I came to recruit you."
Xu Fan raised an eyebrow. So he's not here to eliminate me? Interesting.
But looking around at the twenty-plus Root shinobi in his home, this 'invitation' didn't feel particularly friendly.
"I understand Tobirama-sama's philosophy better than Hiruzen ever could," Danzo continued. "Your Mokuton should serve a greater purpose. Konoha needs strong roots to survive. Join me."
Xu Fan exhaled, rubbing his temples. "You really talk like a politician."
"So, you accept?" Danzo pressed.
Xu Fan shook his head. "I refuse."
Danzo's expression didn't change, as if he had expected this response.
"I see..." he murmured.
Then, without hesitation, he removed the bandages covering his right eye—revealing the Sharingan of Shisui Uchiha.
