Chapter 44 - CHAPTER 44

Obviously strong but the reason for bei

Kakashi had been ordered to deal with Xu Fan, but there was no way he would simply buy him real estate as a solution. That wasn't something one could decide on a whim.

After some thought, Kakashi decided to take Xu Fan back to his home. He lived alone, and there were plenty of empty rooms.

Xu Fan didn't object to Kakashi's decision.

Kakashi's home wasn't in the center of Konohagakure but rather in a more secluded area.

"I get the feeling Kakashi isn't exactly well-off."

From a distance, Xu Fan could see Kakashi's house—a modest wooden bungalow. Though not small, considering the vast and sparsely populated nature of the Naruto world, large homes weren't uncommon.

"This is it."

Kakashi didn't speak much on the way, only uttering these words upon arrival.

"Alright."

Xu Fan followed him inside. The house, though simple, was clean and well-maintained.

"Until you find a new place, you can stay here for now."

Kakashi led Xu Fan on a brief tour before assigning him an empty room. However, one room at the far end of the house was tightly sealed, as if Kakashi didn't even acknowledge its existence.

"That must have belonged to his father."

Xu Fan speculated, remembering Kakashi's tragic past.

After waiting briefly to see if Xu Fan had any further requests, Kakashi finally spoke.

"I'm going to report to the Third Hokage."

With that, he left without looking back.

Although they would be living together for now, Kakashi had no intention of forming any sort of bond. This was temporary.

Xu Fan smiled as he watched him leave, then let the expression fade.

"Hah..."

Taking a deep breath, he reached into his pocket and pulled out Shisui Uchiha's eye—his greatest gain from the battle against Danzo.

But...

He had no intention of using it just yet.

For one, the transplantation process was excruciatingly painful. More importantly, it wasn't necessary right now.

The Sharingan was undeniably powerful. Kakashi, despite being a non-Uchiha, had earned the title of Copy Ninja with just a three-tomoe Sharingan. The Mangekyō Sharingan was even stronger, and Shisui's Kotoamatsukami was said to be the most powerful genjutsu in existence.

Any ninja would be tempted by this eye.

But Xu Fan wasn't just any ninja.

His Sign-in System had already granted him Mokuton (Wood Release), as well as Byakugan. If he could obtain the Byakugan through this system, then acquiring the Sharingan should also be possible.

There was no need to rush.

Besides, an Uchiha who transplants another Uchiha's Sharingan cannot deactivate it, leading to constant chakra depletion.

Even though Xu Fan possessed a significantly larger chakra reserve than most...

He would still have to hide his eye behind a headband, much like Kakashi and Danzo.

It was possible—but unnecessary.

As for using Kotoamatsukami, he could always implant the eye into an animal, like how Itachi stored Amaterasu in Sasuke's eye.

"For now, I just need to store this eye properly."

Xu Fan searched Kakashi's house for a suitable container. Given his enhanced perception, he didn't need to search for long.

He placed Shisui's eye into a glass bottle and spent half a day preparing a nutrient solution before sealing it inside.

"That should do it."

Xu Fan examined the Sharingan floating in the bottle.

"Though Kotoamatsukami is hailed as the strongest illusion, it takes years to recharge..."

He paused.

"Wait. If I remember correctly, wasn't it more than ten years?"

Xu Fan frowned, trying to recall the details.

Itachi had mentioned the cooldown period, but Shisui himself had planned to use Kotoamatsukami to stop the Uchiha coup before his death. Even after Danzo stole one of his eyes, Shisui still activated the technique for Itachi before passing away.

At the time, Itachi was only thirteen.

By the Fourth Great Ninja War, Itachi was 21—less than ten years had passed.

"Did I misremember? Or was there some other factor?"

Shaking his head, Xu Fan decided not to dwell on it. Instead, his thoughts drifted toward Hashirama Cells.

Even though he could use Mokuton, it was only due to his immense chakra reserves amplifying its power. Unlike Hashirama, he lacked the natural Yang Release affinity and the ability to use Sage Mode.

This raised a question: would possessing Hashirama Cells reduce the cooldown of Kotoamatsukami?

"And there's no way I'm implanting Sharingan all over my body like Danzo... That's just disgusting."

Xu Fan grimaced at the thought. Instead, he planned to transplant Shisui's eye into an animal and conduct research to shorten the technique's cooldown time.

With that decided, he carefully sealed the glass bottle and sat cross-legged on the tatami.

Then, a troubling thought surfaced.

"Come to think of it... the timing of the Third Hokage's arrival was a bit too convenient."

Earlier, Xu Fan had been too focused on stealing Shisui's eye and taking down Danzo to question it. But now that he had time to reflect...

The Third Hokage possessed a unique jutsu—The Telescope Technique.

With it, he could observe anyone as long as he was familiar with their chakra signature.

If he had been watching Naruto all this time, it was entirely possible he had also been watching Xu Fan.

"If I recall correctly, Danzo only obtained all those Sharingan after the Uchiha Massacre..."

"But what if he had them even before that?"

During the Third Great Ninja War, Konohagakure had fought on multiple fronts. There was no way the Uchiha Clan hadn't participated.

Obito Uchiha himself had been presumed dead during that war.

Not only that—Kirigakure's Ao had obtained a Byakugan from the battlefield.

If Ao could secure a Byakugan, what were the chances that Danzo had also collected Sharingan from fallen Uchiha during the war?

A sinister possibility crossed Xu Fan's mind.

"Izanagi..."

A technique that allowed the user to rewrite reality at the cost of a Sharingan.

Xu Fan narrowed his eyes.

Perhaps, the true reason why some of the strongest ninja in history were so overly cautious... was because they knew something he didn't.
