Chapter 17 - March 27th, 2078 (Later)

I know I already wrote about today, but some CRAZY stuff happened, and I just had to turn the page and continue writing.

You ever have one of those days where you think, "Wow, things can't possibly get worse," and then the universe just slaps you in the face with a hold my drink moment? That was today.

We thought the house was our last shot, our big aha moment where we'd get all the answers. Instead, we got more questions. Because, of course, why would life ever be easy? Mason's dad's study had some kind of ancient cryptic nonsense, and the chip we pulled from the robot felt important, but we didn't exactly have time to sit down and play detective. Mason was still bleeding like he was trying to audition for a horror movie, but he refused to slow down.

We ran. The bots chased. Rinse and repeat. Every alley, every street, we turned a corner, and bam, another one was waiting. I was starting to think they had some kind of dramatic timing function built in, just to mess with us.

"Keep going, mate. We're not clear yet." Mason growled, somehow still standing despite the fact that, you know, he was literally bleeding out.

I, on the other hand, was pretty sure my legs were going to detach from my body and file for early retirement. "Mace, we need to stop. You're dying."

"I'm fine," he snapped, which, fun fact, is exactly what people say when they're absolutely not fine.

We ran until the city disappeared behind us. Mason knew a place, a network of tunnels, abandoned passages. Real post-apocalyptic I know a guy energy. But something was shifting. Mason was hiding something, and I had a feeling it had to do with his dad's little science project.
