Chapter 33 - The Worst Department

Chapter 33

Blaze sat at his desk, the candlelight flickering as he opened the last book:

"The Awakening of True Nature."

This was it. The final book in his collection.

He took a deep breath and turned the first page.

The book began by explaining that True Nature Awakening was a process that occurred when a wizard reached the Junior Wizard Level.

At this stage, a wizard's Mystic Core would begin to crack, releasing the hidden potential within them.

Each person's awakening was different, but they generally fell into three major categories

The most common form of awakening was Elemental Awakening. Those who awakened this type would gain a deeper connection to the elemental forces they wielded.

The book described different subtypes within this category:

Casters – The most common. They excelled in direct spellcasting, manipulating their element with ease.

Alchemists – Less common, these individuals had a natural talent for potion-making and pill refinement. They could alter the very properties of matter.

Magic Warriors – A unique type who wielded magic through weapons. The sword was the most commonly used weapon among them.

Blaze immediately thought of Enax, the leader of Red Inferno, and Kami, the Black Department's leader. Both were Magic Warriors.

Prophets – A rare type. These individuals could see glimpses of the future. They were highly sought after as advisors and strategists. They also has high healing abilities.

Summoners – One of the rarest types. Summoners could tame and summon magical beasts to fight alongside them. They were called War Masters due to their ability to command entire beast armies.

Astrologers – The rarest of all. Only those with a Space Core could become Astrologers. Their abilities remained largely unknown, but it was said they could manipulate space and time itself.

---

For those who possessed Beast Essence, their awakening was entirely different.

These wizards gained a deeper connection to their beastly instincts and were categorized into different types:

Hunting Beasts – Focused on agility and precision, these individuals specialized in tracking and assassination.

Vanguard Beasts – Known for their unmatched strength and durability. They were the tanks of the battlefield.

Warrior Beasts – A rare combination of Hunting and Vanguard Beasts, possessing both incredible power and agility.

Titanic Beasts – These were the giants of the beast category, possessing immense, almost unstoppable physical strength.

Mystical Beasts – The rarest and most powerful awakening. Those who awakened as Mystical Beasts gained powers reminiscent of legendary creatures like dragons and phoenixes.

The book stated that only a handful of individuals in the entire world of Tenebrous had ever awakened as Mystical Beasts.

Blaze paused for a moment.

If someone had Mystical Beast Essence, they would be almost invincible.

---

Blaze turned the page and read about the Meta-Humane Mystic Essence.

This was one of the rarest awakening types, with only 9% of the population possessing it.

Meta-Humane awakenings granted superhuman abilities beyond normal magic.

They were divided into several categories:

Enhancement – Those who awakened this type gained super strength, super speed, super healing, flight, and other physical enhancements.

Psionic (Psychic) – Individuals with this awakening had mental abilities such as telekinesis, telepathy, and mind control.

Shapeshifters – They could alter their physical form, disguising themselves or transforming completely.

Technopaths – Those who could control and manipulate technology with their minds.

Phantasms – Wizards who could create illusions so powerful they became indistinguishable from reality.

Blaze's fingers tightened around the book.

Dynamic Awakening

Blaze flipped to the next section, but it was surprisingly short.

The book simply stated:

> Dynamic Essence does not have subcategories.

It is the rarest and most powerful essence of all.

There was no further explanation.

That was odd.

Everything else had pages upon pages of information.

But Dynamic Essence?

Just a single paragraph.

Blaze closed the book and sighed.

This book had been filled with incredible knowledge, but…

None of it mentioned the Chaos System.

He had read through history, mystic arts, awakening types… but there was not a single mention of Chaos Essence.

It was as if it didn't exist.

Was his system truly unique?

Or was it something that had been erased from history?

Blaze rubbed his eyes.

He had been reading all day. His body felt heavy, his mind exhausted.

He looked at the pile of books beside him.

So much knowledge…

Yet no answers.

With a sigh, he pushed the books aside, laid back on his bed, and let his eyes close.

Whatever the truth was…

He would find it.

Eventually.

For now…

Sleep.

_ _ _

A full month had passed since Blaze and his group had been admitted into Wizard Knight Academy. The days had fallen into a routine—magic theory classes in the morning, practical combat training in the afternoon, and intense personal training in the evening.

For Blaze, every moment counted.

With his Chaos System, he had been progressing at an astonishing rate. Now, as he walked through the Academy's vast training grounds, he decided it was time to check his progress.

Blaze summoned his status window, and rows of text appeared before his eyes.

Blaze smirked.

He was close. He is close to reaching the next phase. Just few more, and he'd push past the limit that most students couldn't even dream of reaching so quickly. And become a junior wizard.

As Blaze closed his status window, he spotted a familiar black and yellow-haired idiot leaning against a tree, looking… traumatized.

"Kaito?" Blaze called out.

Kaito flinched, as if the wind itself had betrayed him.

Blaze narrowed his eyes. "You look like you've seen death."

Kaito groaned and dramatically flopped onto the ground. "Worse. I saw… her boyfriend."

Blaze blinked. "Who?"

Kaito looked up at the sky, as if asking the gods why they had forsaken him.

"You know how I was trying to impress some girls?"

Blaze nodded. "You wasted all your points on dumb stuff."

"Not dumb! Cool!" Kaito corrected. "But yeah, so I ended up dating this one girl from the Blue Department."

Blaze's eyebrow twitched. "...And?"

"She, uh, forgot to mention she already had a boyfriend."

Blaze exhaled sharply. "Kaito…"

"And not just any boyfriend! This guy was a senior! He found out, and then the next thing I knew, I was running for my life through the Academy like some criminal!"

Blaze sighed. "Did you escape?"

Kaito grinned. "Oh yeah, I hid inside a storage closet for five hours until he gave up."

Blaze pinched the bridge of his nose. "Why do I even talk to you?"

"Because I make your life exciting."

"More like I lose brain cells every time I listen to you."

Blaze and Kaito eventually made their way to one of the training halls within the Academy.

As they stepped inside, they noticed something… off.

A group of students was gathered around something—or rather, someone.

In the center of the commotion, two Blue Department students stood over a fallen Black Department student, their expressions filled with arrogance.

"You Black Department weaklings really think you can train here?" one of them sneered.

The Black Department student, struggling to get up, gritted his teeth. "I… I have as much right to train here as you do!"

One of the Blue Department students smirked and raised his fist—now engulfed in blazing flames.

"Then I'll burn that arrogance out of you."

As the fiery fist descended, a hand suddenly grabbed it mid-air.

The flames flickered—but did not burn.

The Blue Department student's eyes widened as he looked up to see a pair of cold, green eyes staring back at him.

Standing there, gripping his flaming hand as if it were nothing but air, was Blaze.

"Let him go," Blaze said, his voice dangerously calm.

The entire hall fell silent.

The Blue Department student pulled back his hand, shaking slightly. "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Blaze didn't answer.

The other Blue Department student snickered. "Oh, another Black Department trash thinks he can act tough."

He stepped closer, glaring at Blaze.

"Listen here, peasant," he said. "The Black Department is the lowest-ranked in this entire Academy. If you kneel down and bow your head ten times, maybe I'll forgive your rudeness."

Blaze tilted his head. "And if I don't?"

The student smirked. "Then don't blame me for what happens next."

He raised his fingers. "I'll count to five. After that, you'd better be on your knees."

"One."

Blaze didn't move.

"Two."

Kaito, standing to the side, whispered, "Oh, this idiot really has no idea what's coming."

"Three."

The Black Department students held their breath, watching the scene unfold.

"Four."

The Blue Department student grinned, ready to strike.

"Fi—"

THWACK!

Before he could finish, his head slammed into the ground with a deafening crack!

The entire hall froze.

Everyone stared at the Blue Department student—his face buried in the stone floor.

Standing over him was Blaze, his hand still gripping the back of the student's head.

Silence.

Utter silence.

Then Blaze lifted the student's head up—and slammed it down again.

THWACK!

Gasps filled the air.

Blaze didn't stop.

THWACK!

THWACK!

THWACK!

By the tenth time, the Blue Department student's face was barely recognizable.

Blaze let go and dusted off his hands. "There. Ten times, just as you requested."

Kaito wheeze-laughed from the side. "OH MY GOD, HE REALLY DID IT! I CAN'T BREATHE!"

The other Blue Department student was shaking.

Blaze turned his cold gaze toward him.

"You want to go next?"

The student backed away so fast he almost tripped. "N-No! I… I…"

Blaze smirked. "Then leave."

The Blue Department students ran.

The entire hall was silent.

The Black Department students stared at Blaze as if he were a god of war.

No Black Department student had ever dared to fight back.

No Black Department student had ever stood their ground.

But Blaze had just humiliated a Blue Department elite in front of everyone.

"Who… who is this guy?" one of them whispered.

A second-year student turned pale. "Wait… don't tell me… he's the Zero of the Trial?"

Realization dawned upon the crowd.

The monster from the entrance trial.

The madman who had survived against overwhelming odds.

And now, here he was—showing the Academy that the Black Department would not be pushed around anymore.

Blaze cracked his knuckles and smirked.

"Anyone else?"

Silence.

Then—cheers erupted from the Black Department students.

To be continued.
