Chapter 10 - The Void

Rielle watched as Jack turned the key and saw as he disappeared from her eyes. Where Jack was standing was a small rippling of the air. The ripples were like a vast lake that someone had thrown a stone into, but constant and unchanging.

'Where did he go!?' Rielle became anxious and worried because Jack had vanished without a trace and there was no way she was going to find him, so she decided she would wait until Jack came out from the ripples in the air. She wasn't going to sleep, drink, or eat until Jack made it back.

Jack turned the ancient key in the invisible and unknown lock. When he did he instantly felt a weird sensation, and before he could comprehend it he was flung through the air at unimaginable speeds.

He speed through the cathedral's many floors and passed through the spire that he and Rielle entered through. He saw as that same spire became smaller and smaller as he kept on moving up at ever increasing speeds.

He passed through the sky and eventually broke through the atmosphere of his home world. Jack looked down at the planet that he was just standing slowly become smaller and smaller. His planet was a baren yellow and brown planet with small dots of blue spread across it. There was one big grey dot very far north from where Jack and Rielle were currently. The grey dot was glowing with tiny specks of light spread throughout it.

Jack didn't know what it was but he was curious as to what it was, so he decided that if he went back home he would travel to that dot with Rielle because he thought that people might be there.

Soon his home planet became a small speck while he got closer to a giant burning ball of fire--it was his sun, something he thought he would never see other than when looking up into the sky during a scorching hot day.

Jack's world which had seemed infinite collapsed into only a small unnoticeable speck far into the distance.

Jack's speed kept increasing as he got faster and faster. He was able to see his sun which was bigger than anything that he had seen--his world had shrunk even further. There were other planets that rotated around the same sun as Jack's own world.

There was a blue planet with white covering both the top and the bottom that seemed to be bigger than the other two planets Jack could see. The last one was hard to make out but Jack saw a plethora of colors all rotating towards a large black spot in the center of the planet.

After a few moments of admiration Jack could no longer see his sun and that planets that rotated around it. But he was now able to see tens of hundreds of similar systems some had multiple suns, some had no planets, and others had so many objects around that sun that Jack couldn't count them all.

He saw thousands of these until all he saw was a massive bright light surrounded by rings made of tiny suns that were reduced to mere specks of light. All of the rings rotated around the center light. There was also an unimaginable amount of these varying in shape and size.

What Jack thought of his world had completely disappeared, but with it came a new found curiosity to explore that vast amount of worlds that were spread out in front of him.

He flew past them until all he saw here lights and colors speeding past his vision. His mind was about to break from the stimulation his brain was receiving from the sights he was seeing, but after a short while the only thing left was darkness. Darkness that enveloped everything leaving no light left to be seen. He was left in a void of nothing.

Jack waited in nothingness for what seemed to be an eternity. He felt that time had stopped ticking and that only nothing remained. There was no light, no color, only darkness filled with nothing.

Jack also noticed that he stopped moving or that was what it seemed like, he had no way of knowing because there was no wind or something he could see to gauge his speed.

He closed his eyes and waited. He was going to wait until he sensed something with his five senses.

After what felt like eternities had passed Jack's eyes began to notice something that wasn't black.

'Is it my imagination, or did something finally happen?' Jack's mind churned as ne slowly opened his eyes, and what he saw made him speechless.

Jack looked upon two giant burning white fireballs that were angled down and looked like to eyes staring at him. This stare seemed to pierce through everything. It scanned Jack, it looked through his skin, and through his muscles all the down to his bones.

But then the stare seemed to dig deeper it pierced through his very existence and examined his soul. The piercing eyes looked through Jack's past and deep into his future--it was examining his fate. Checking to see what would happen to him and what had happened to him. It saw everything.

It happened in only a short moment but Jack felt the gaze of the burning eyes for what seemed like years.

After everything was over a booming voice was heard throughout the entire universe.

[YOU ARE THE STAR THAT WAS TAKEN FROM THE VOID.]

"Huh? I was taken from the void?" Jack became confused as he asked the eyes a question. The eyes did not listen.

[I WILL GIVE YOU YOUR GIFT. REMBER YOUR PRICE.]

Jack felt an unfamiliar energy enter his body. It swirled around covering every part of it until all of it collapsed into the center of his chest.

Jack felt a fiery burning coming from within him--it was engraving itself onto his chest. Where it burned the energy left a black four sided star that was imprinted onto the center of his chest. Right above where his heart was.

Jack floated in nothingness getting used to the foreign energy that invaded his body. And not long after he started to see light and color enter his vision--he was finally going back home.

"Haaah."

Rielle had just steeled her resolve to wait for Jack to return, but right when she sat on the cold floor she heard a loud thud.

THUD!!

Jack had appeared again only moments after he had left, the key was still griped in his hands waiting for Rielle to gain her gift.
