Nora's pov
"Tell me" Ronan commanded, not taking his eyes off Lyra.
"Where did you find her?" Lyra asked as they stared at each other, almost as of they were communicating with their eyes.
"Could you two stop talking about me like I'm not right here?" I asked, sitting up.
"I'm right here and it's obvious whatever is going on involves me so I'd like to know what's happening here" I continued, looking from Ronan to Lyra.
"Does she have the mark?" Lyra asked Ronan completely ignoring me.
"A crescent right by her shoulder blade" he responded. I leaned back into the chair, my frustration palpable but none of them seemed to care.
"She was trespassing on my lands and my wolves almost killed her" Ronan explained.
Lyra says something in a language which I can't comprehend moments before she turns back to me.
"What pack are you from?" She asked.
"I'm not telling either of you anything about me until I know what's going on" I retorted.
"Nora we don't have time for this" Ronan all but growled at me.
"Feisty. She will be good for your ego" Lyra chuckled.
"You don't have time for what exactly? To explain to me why you dragged me here or why you both seem to have an interest in the mark on my shoulder?" I quirked a brow at him.
Ronan shot daggers at me but to my uttermost shock Lyra burst into laughter.
"The moon goddess sure has a way with things" she mused as her eyes twinkled.
"I fail to see what is funny about the situation" Ronan grumbled.
" The heir to the fallen kingdom shall remain hidden and as the crescent emerges, their paths shall converge and the course of fate will be altered " she recited.
"What is that?" I asked, remembering I heard similar lines from Ronan earlier.
"The prophecy" she simply said.
"What prophesy?" I gritted out. She looked unimpressed at Ronan for a moment.
"I wasn't sure she was the one" he shrugged, unremorseful.
"Can I see this crescent?" Lyra asked, ignoring him.
"I promise to explain as much as I am able to after I see it" she added just as I was about to protest. Reluctantly, I turned my back to her and lowered my shirt allowing her to see the mark.
"Magnificent" she whispered, her fingers grazing my skin lightly.
"Can I know what's going on now?" I asked, turning back to face her.
"There's a prophesy which was found by the guardians of the scrolls along time ago-" she began.
"Guardian of the scrolls?" I interrupted.
"Yes. The guardian of the scrolls" she waved her hands in the air and the cottage began to spin and before I could comprehend what was happening everything around us changed.
We were in a peaceful garden which was empty save for a man and a woman who clung to each other desperately.
"Where are we?" I whispered.
"Don't worry it's an illusion" Ronan replied.
"These were the first guardians of the scrolls. The moon goddess passed on prophecies and curses through them. Several centuries ago there was only one alpha and king of the wolves. He cared for his people at first but when the guardian of the scrolls told him the moon goddess had ordered that power be shared into smaller units he rebelled. He didn't want to let go of the power he had and so he set about burning all existing scrolls that contained the prophecies, he believed if his subjects never knew about them he could continue to rule over them. The guardians of the scrolls anticipated his resistance and hid most of the important scrolls before he could lay his hands on them, this enraged him further and when they refused to tell him where they hid them...he killed them" she explained, softly waving her hands and the illusion disappears.
"So where do I come in?" I asked, confused.
"Some of the scrolls have been found by the witches over the years and there are some containing prophecies as well as curses which threaten the very existence of your species" she admitted.
"So I'm involved in one of these scrolls?" I questioned.
"The one with the crescent mark is involved in one of the scrolls" she clarified.
"This is ridiculous. Anyone could have a crescent shaped birthmark" I argued.
"Yet after searching a long time, here you are before me" she simply said.
"So what now? What does the rest of this prophesy say?" I asked skeptically.
"There are missing parts of the scroll. Some parts mucked by the soil, other parts torn off" she replied.
"So you don't even know what this prophesy says in it's entirety?" I asked flatly.
"I know enough to know that your species are in grave danger and it rests on your shoulders to be their saviour" she said.
"Wow, no pressure guys" I replied sarcastically.
"So what am I meant to do now?" I asked soberly.
"No one can change the course of fate. Now you can only wait and see how things unfold" she shrugged.
"What do you mean wait? I don't even know what I'm waiting for" I pointed out.
"In time, all will be revealed to you. For now go back to your pack, train like your life depends on it... because it does and then ready yourself for the worst to come" she shrugged as though her words had no impact.
"I don't have a pack" a new found wave of loneliness washes over me as I close my eyes releaving the events of the previous day.
"You aren't a rogue" Lyra looks at me in confusion.
"I was banished from my pack so technically I am a rogue now" I explained.
"Well then it's a good thing we have the Alpha of the rogues right here at our service isn't it?" She smiled slyly to herself.
"No" Ronan coldly said, finally speaking up.
"Who better to protect her than you?" Lyra quirked a brow at him.
"She isn't a rogue. My pack would swallow her alive before she even stands a chance" he said and I remain silent, swallowing my pride because I really had no where else to go.
"Your pack takes in those that have been cast out and need protection Ronan" Lyra pressed on.
"I don't need protection" I scowled.
"I dare say you do sweetie" Lyra smiled softly at me.
"She is key to the prophecy Ronan. We've waited for this moment a long time, don't let your emotions get in the way" she turns to Ronan.
"My emotions are very much in check" he growled.
"Then man up and take her into your pack. We need her" Lyra stated.
"Why can't she stay with you?" He asked.
"I am not a child to be babysitter" I growled out my annoyance.
From the armchair I could feel Ronan's cold stare on me and I knew I was in for a long ride.
