Chapter 7 - And by Lottery… a Hero?!

Scene: The role distribution ceremony. A massive magical dome. Hundreds of participants—heroes, villains, mages, knights—have gathered to learn their fate in the legendary project, "Show: Who's the Real One?" In the center, a glowing orb filled with enchanted symbols hovers in the air.

Host: And now! The great, impartial, absolutely random… ROLE LOTTERY!

Crowd: Oooooooh!

The host waves his hands, the orb spins rapidly, and glowing cards shoot out into the hands of the participants. Everyone grabs their assigned role. Morty looks at his card.

Morty: …Oh, for the love of undeath.

Greg: Oh. Laughter. Oh, excuse me, my great, terrifying, fearsome, and… HEROIC! Necromancer!

Morty: Stop laughing, you're my familiar, show some respect.

Greg: Let's see what you got.

Morty reads aloud: "Your role this season: HERO. Create a persona, perform noble deeds, and inspire the people."

Greg: Do you even know what being a hero means?

Morty: Of course. It's like villainy, but with better marketing.

Greg: No, it's like villainy, but the complete opposite!

Morty: Well… fine. How hard can it be? Everybody loves heroes. They get invited to banquets, receive medals, get—

Greg: …have to help people, not scare them, not raise the dead randomly, not send armies of skeletons to raid villages…

Morty: What if the village is in trouble?

Greg: Not the kind of trouble you usually cause!

Morty: Oh.

Scene: The main hall. Heroes and villains discuss their roles.

Lance the Golden Storm: Okay. I'm a villain. That means I have to… be cruel, evil, menacing… Oh, I feel sick.

Lady Phoenix: And I have to insult people? Be rude? I even say "thank you" to the guards!

Morty: Trust me, gentlemen, I am suffering far more than you.

Lance: You?

Lady Phoenix: What did you get?

Morty holds up his card.

Lance and Lady Phoenix: Laughter.

Greg: Thank you, audience. We all recognize this as a true tragedy.

Lance: A necromancer… as a hero… Oh, I just can't! Laughter.

Lady Phoenix: Sorry, sorry, it's just nerves. Laughter.

Morty: You think you have it better?

Lance: No… I have to threaten villages, but… but…

Lady Phoenix: We have no idea how to be bad!

Morty: How tragic. Would you like to swap roles by any chance?

Lance and Lady Phoenix: NO!

Greg (whispers): The negotiation strategy has failed.

Scene: The host steps back onto the stage.

Host: Now that the lottery has decided your fate, you have one night to create your personas. Tomorrow—the grand presentation!

The crowd buzzes with excitement and begins dispersing.

Morty: Fine… a hero it is. I will create the perfect hero.

Greg: You sure about that?

Morty: Absolutely.

Greg: Why does your voice sound like you're planning something sinister?

Morty: Me? Of course not.

Pause.

Morty: Well… maybe just a little.

...

Yoonso was sitting at the breakfast table, staring at the TV. The news showed a story about a new hero in the city.

Yoonso: Another hero? Seriously?

Mom, placing a plate in front of him: Maybe this one is special?

Yoonso, frowning: We already have Tiger Lightning, Captain Blaster, and Sky Star. How many more heroes do we need?

Mom, smiling: Maybe this one will help. I heard he's faster at catching criminals than anyone else.

Yoonso, glancing at the screen: Catching criminals, saving kittens, even stopping buses… Why do I feel like this hero is just another fanatic?

The TV showed footage of the mysterious hero easily leaping over buildings and taking down villains.

Yoonso, suddenly noticing with surprise: Wait… Is that… a scientist?

Yoonso couldn't believe his eyes. He stared more closely at the screen.

Yoonso: This isn't magic. It's something scientific… Seriously.

Yoonso's eyes lit up as he realized he had to figure out who this hero was.

The next day, after school, Yoonso grabbed his notebook, binoculars, and assembled his drone. He was ready to conduct his investigation.

Yoonso, whispering to himself while preparing: If this hero follows logic, I can figure out his next move. No random actions.

He climbed up to the school rooftop and began watching the street. Time passed slowly. Yoonso was beginning to drift off when he suddenly noticed something.

Yoonso, looking through the binoculars: What's that?

On his drone's screen, he saw a figure in a silver suit, who suddenly jumped off a building and landed right in front of a group of thieves. The criminals looked terrified.

Yoonso, pressing buttons on the remote: They're robbing a store. The hero, we need to track him.

The drone zoomed in on the image. The hero slowly raised his hand, and blue energy waves began to form around the criminals, freezing their movements.

Yoonso, peering into the drone's monitor: This… isn't a superpower. This is definitely something scientific! How is he using those waves?

Yoonso watched with anticipation, trying to figure out how the energy worked. At that moment, the hero suddenly turned his head towards the drone.

Yoonso, panicking and whispering: Oh no… He noticed us!

The hero's gaze locked onto the drone's camera, and in the next moment, the screen blurred out.

Yoonso: Did he hack my drone?!

Yoonso stood in shock, realizing that he had just become a part of something much more complicated and dangerous than he had imagined.

Yoonso, anxiously: This is personal. He didn't even give me a chance!
